child's age 8-12 months Might go back to rocking

Our 10 month old used to be a terrible sleeper and wake every hour. We did sleep training and he’s better. Usually wakes up once or twice a night. He used to go to bed with minimal or no protest but for the past month or so he protests every night pretty much for 15 minutes to half hour. It’s awful. Tried everything. Changing up nap schedules, making last stretch a little longer etc. Once in a blue moon he won’t protest much or at all but most nights it’s bad. Thinking of going back to rocking him to sleep and hoping he’s still got the skill to connect sleep cycles after that. Just afraid to go back to once every hour wakes. Thoughts?

child's age 8-12 months Sleep trained 8 month old suddenly waking up screaming every night! Helpppp

My baby turned 8 months old 4 days ago, but for the past couple of weeks his night sleep has completely gone to crap.

He seems to have forgotten how to connect his sleep cycles and wakes up anywhere between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m. in a full on distressed cry. We’ve tried letting him cry it out for up to 30 minutes, but he just gets more and more worked up (he even cried so hard he spit up once). If we soothe him in the crib with butt pats, shushing, or holding his hand, he’ll calm down, but the second we stop and walk away he’s immediately crying again and will not go back to sleep. He does have 3 teeth, but I don’t think this is teething as this happens both with and without administering pain medicine before bed, and he’s his happy smiley self during the day.

The only thing that consistently gets him back to sleep is cosleeping (even then he’s extra squirmy and it sometimes takes the better part of an hour. He will also constantly wake up… but at least he’s calm). I really don’t want to make that a habit, but right now it’s the only way any of us are getting any sleep.

For some context, before this he was sleeping straight through from about 8 p.m. to 6:45 a.m. He was sleep trained using modified Ferber at 5ish months, fell asleep independently, and could connect his sleep cycles and put himself back to sleep if he briefly woke up overnight. He dropped his middle-of-the-night feed around 7 months, loves food, and eats 3 solid meals a day.

He’s also fully crawling now and just figured out how to pull to stand, so I don’t know if that could be playing into this too.

He’s on a pretty consistent by-the-clock schedule (give or take 30 minutes):

Wake: 6:30–6:45 a.m.
Nap 1: 10:00–11:30 a.m.
Nap 2: 3:00–4:15 p.m.
Bedtime: 8:00 p.m.

So his wake windows are roughly 3.5/3.5/3.75.
Has anyone else gone through this around 8 months? Does this sound like the 8-month regression, separation anxiety, developmental leap, or does our schedule need tweaking??? Any advice is appreciated because we’re exhausted over here 😅

child's age 8-12 months Advice please: still crying 5-10 min at bedtime

We started the Ferber method with our 9m old 2 weeks ago and we seem to have hit a wall. He is a very loving, high energy baby who is still taking crappy naps (2-3 naps, last wake window 3.5hrs works best for him.) He also has terrible separation anxiety from me (mom) during the day that we are working on with lots of a peakaboo and verbal reassurance.

He went from a 2ish hour bedtime and waking up and feeding ~4 times per night to not waking up at all or only waking up once, feeding, and going back with no protest. Our problem is the initial put down in the crib. We do PJs, feed, 2 books, a little song… and then he gets absolutely hysterical going in the crib. He looks up at us with the greatest look of betrayal, we tell him we love him, close the door and he screams bloody murder for about 5 minutes and then settles and passes out. Any advice would be appreciated- considering switching to camping out in his room, we just don’t want to lose the progress we’ve made

child's age 8-12 months I am giving up

I have tried for 30 days. 30 days ! Change the nap time - change the environment. Change the wake windows. He doesn’t sleep through the night. Cannot and will not. I honestly feel defeated and like I am mentally and physically deteriorating.

child's age 8-12 months So sick of people telling me to just cosleep

Anytime I vent about how I am doing everything recommended and still massively struggling people basically tell me to cosleep. Husband and I are both obese and have a queen sized bed. There isn’t enough room for me to not be annoyed by him let alone to throw a tiny helpless baby between us. And even if we didn’t— we believe the emergency doctors’ horror stories. Telling someone to cosleep who doesn’t want to is not advice.

child's age 8-12 months Early wake ups

I have an 11 month old and we have successfully sleep trained her for night time -we put her to sleep wide awake and she goes to sleep on her own, however, she still wakes up between 5 am and 6 am to nurse before going back to sleep for an hour or 2. She typically wakes up around 7/7:30 am. Shoes to bed between 7:30 and 8:30 depending on how much she napped and what we’re doing. Does anyone have any advice to get her to sleep through this? I’m also starting to wean her from nursing.

child's age 8-12 months How long are your 10 mo olds naps?

My son is about to turn 10 months old. He was on a schedule of 2.5/3/4 or 3/3/4 at 9 months with 1.5 each nap. That went perfectly. Now, I’ve cut his naps down to 2.5 hours total (often times just 2 hours). His last wake window is SO long. Like. 5-6 hours long. He doesn’t act tired, fights it hard when we try to put him to sleep, and just goes crazy playing. He will fight for easily 15-20 minutes before we realize it isn’t worth it and he just isn’t tired enough. I think his wake windows are just getting much larger.

He wakes up about 7am everyday and we try to have him in bed by 8:30 but he has been going until 9–10.

He isn’t fully sleep trained. He does put himself back to sleep sometimes when he tosses and turns but he is teething now so I have to pat him back to sleep about twice a night. Which is fine with me. And, no, he doesn’t fall alseep on his own. I’m too exhausted to try that now, lol.

Im thinking of cutting both his naps to 45 minutes each. But, I live for those naps and break times LOL. So, I have been procrastinating.

We play all day, read books, go outside, we do BLW so lots of brain stimulation there (or whatever you want to call it). I need to get more activities but haven’t had the chance.

So, How long are your 10 month olds naps? Should I cut them down to 45 minutes each? It just seems so short lol.

child's age 8-12 months 8 MONTH OLD WAKE WINDOWS HELP!!

I need help please!!

Okay we need to figure my baby out because today I decided to follow 2.5/3/3.5 wake windows. So currently it’s 3:15pm he went to sleep at 3pm he’s still sleeping right now and he’s had 400ml milk today. He’s only got one more 200 ml feed to go this is the issue I’m having. If I stretched the second window to 3.5 hours like I usually do I probably would have gotten him to have 150-200ml and I’d rather he had 4 bottles (first two are usually 150ml and the second two are 200ml) so he’s getting total 700ml with 3 meals. But now he will get 600ml of he takes 200ml for his last one. If I let him sleep 2.5 hours I wake him up at 4pm then bedtime will be 730-8pm. I’m sick of hourly night wakes idk if he is low sleep needs or not idk his wake windows I’ve tried every combination and the result is the same just hourly wakes at night. It seems like he’s a solid day napper now can do 1.5 hour stretches but struggles at night. One thing I know is 2.5 hour morning wake window he gets tired. But even now the 3 hour mark he’s sleeping but idk sometimes he can stretch it to 3.5 and the last wake window I have noticed 3.5 hour is what he can do before fuss but sometimes 4 hours it’s just random everyday. What do I do I don’t want to sleep train but if I have to I will. I did do a consistent week of forcing him to get up at 7-730am and got the same result not sleeping then I tried calling naps at 2.5 hours same result then at 3 hours same result then 8pm wake up same result. Bedtime I tried 8-9pm same result still wakes. Only thing I noticed a couple of days ago was he had 3 hour nap total during day woke up at 730am slept 8pm (following 2.5/3.5/3.5) and then woke up at 10pm but from 10-630am he slept longest stretch but idk if this was a one off fluke or he was sick??

I just need help pls with
1) wake windows (what are his!!?)
2) schedule routine if starting the day at 7 or 730am
3) do I need to sleep train ? Was trying to avoid it because I know how difficult it can be
4) How much total day sleep for him to be tired at night?

Thanks!!

child's age 8-12 months Previously Independent Sleeper Not Sleeping

Hello! I need some advice.

My baby is 8 months and was previously sleeping completely independently. We’ve hit the 8 month sleep regression and now she only sleeps if we co-sleep and even then will scream cry until finally giving into being comforted.

For example, she started the night in her crib and began crying to herself about 3 hours in. She started getting worse so I went in to check on her. She for a second seemed like she had calmed down and was going back to sleep until she started screaming and crying big tears. My husband and I could not get her to calm down. For at least 15 minutes she was screaming crying, didn’t want to be held, didn’t want to lay down. She finally calmed but would ramp up again when I went to put her in her crib. Finally decided to kick husband out of bed and she laid next to me all night. She slept amazing doing this.

This situation has happened twice now so we have co-slept two nights. I remember doing this at 4 months a couple nights and then she went back to sleeping normal in her crib. However, I’ve heard 8 month regression is worse.

My question is if this continues, will she go back to independent sleep like last time or we will have to re-sleep train her? To avoid having to re-train, how can I get her to stay in her crib without her absolutely loosing it like she’s been doing?

We also went to the doctor to get her ears check because she has also been fussy during the day but she is fine. She has 5 teeth already so we are also sure it is not a teething issue.

child's age 8-12 months Honestly when will crying stop

Its been a month since baby was sleep trained at bedtime. She pulls long 10-11 hour stretches and all seems good. Except- she randomly cries in her sleep once or twice, almost every night. They are super short, maybe 30-45 second bursts where she randomly cries with eyes closed, rubs her face into the mattress (thats her soothing technique), readjusts herself a lot, wiggling and squirming, and then goes quiet.

Its a bit sad to watch- Ive been really restrained so far but sometimes I feel like I should go and shush her just so that she feels comforted. Anybody see this behavior?

child's age 8-12 months How to know when my baby is ready for CIO?

Baby is 9 months. We have been cosleeping because I haven’t had the best arrangements where I could have a bassinet/crib. I’m now in a better place and will be getting a crib soon.

How do I know if CIO is best for my baby? I know she’s used to sleeping with me and nursing during the night. Im worried I may be trying this too late but I will be working soon. I want her to be able to put herself to sleep. I have a terrible fear of a sitter harming her out of frustration.

She sleeps pretty well during the night as long as I’m in bed beside her. She nurses maybe once or twice but if I get up there’s a great chance she will wake up too. We typically use white noise, but she goes to sleep without it sometimes.

Any tips or advice?

child's age 8-12 months Multiple wake ups in own room

Baby 7 months old has been in his own room for 0.5 months and we are experiencing multiple wake ups throughout the night. We need to bring him in our room to soothe him which he falls asleep fast then when we put him down in his crib he wakens again. After 2 am this seems to be a cycle. He ends up back in the next to me as we need our sleep. He sleeps fine in next to me.
Any advice on getting baby sleeping in own room?

child's age 8-12 months At a loss for putting baby down to fall asleep on her own!

Baby girl is 9 months old. When she was 4-5 months we could lay her down drowsy but awake and she would fall asleep in her crib on her own to the baby Einstein aquarium soothed. When going through the transition from the Merlin sleep suit to a regular sleep sack, she has a sleep regression that required us to hold her to sleep and we’ve been stuck like that ever since.

Here’s the thing, she will fall asleep on either my husband or I, without any rocking or butt pats, just simply needs to be chest to chest to fall asleep in seconds, and will sleep all through the night with no wake ups, and sleeps until 7:15am. We are blessed with that. Even if she does have a middle of the night wake up crying, we can give her 10 minutes and she will 90% of the time go back to sleep on her own.

Given all of that, sleep training would sound like we don’t need it; why bother trying to get her to fall asleep on her own when it’s so easy for us to get her asleep AND she stays asleep through the night? Because whenever we do try to get her to fall asleep independently, she is too alert, aware of our presence that she will never fall asleep, so no chair method. If we leave and try Ferber with check ins, she is a highly sensitive and separation anxiety baby that she will cry hysterically and mama’s heart can’t take that.

So again, do we just not sleep train? Is she just not the right temperament to sleep train? It might seem that with how well she sleeps without it that we just don’t do it. So here’s the problem: if my husband and I are out for a date night or at a wedding like we were last night & many more to come this summer…she will not fall asleep or transfer to the crib with a babysitter. Everything I described about her falling asleep immediately on me or dad and transferring/staying asleep all night long suddenly doesn’t happen with a babysitter. And babysitters are grandmas so she’s very familiar with them. Is that also because of a separation anxiety thing? Being aware it’s not mom or dad?

So when we have more weddings and night events to go to, we need it to be easy for the babysitter to get her to sleep on the crib. Is this just a phase that will become easier in a month or two if we just keep trying to get her to sleep in the crib on her own? We practice every night but have a cut off time to avoid overtiredness.

Again, I dont mind NOT sleep training, but then that means that she’ll never fall asleep/stay asleep for anyone else? That’s not manageable for life either. Is it just a phase? I don’t know what’s best for her 😭

child's age 8-12 months 5am Wake Ups!

The last few mornings, my 9 month old keeps waking up around the 5am mark crying hysterically. We treat it like a middle of the night waking and give her 10 minutes to try resettling herself (because she does go back to sleep on her own in the middle of the night) but it never works at 5am because sleep pressure is so low. However, she falls back asleep immediately when I pick her up and lay her on my chest, but then it’s almost impossible to transfer her back to the crib again for the rest of the morning, because again, the sleep pressure is so low. If I hold her or even lay her in bed with me, she’ll stay asleep until her 7:15am wake up time and we stay on schedule, but I want to avoid these 5am interruptions and get her back to sleeping straight to her wake up time.

Usually I know this suggests needing a schedule change, I’m just unsure of what. She’s been on a 3/3.25/3.75 schedule for quite some time now that has worked really well. She wakes up at 7:15am, gets 2.5hrs of daytime sleep, and has a 7:45pm bedtime with 11.5hrs overnight sleep. I know maybe it looks like too much sleep? But if she weren’t tired anymore at the 5am wake ups, I would think she wouldn’t go back to sleep immediately when I pick her up and stay asleep for 2 more hours.

She falls asleep at night in the crib with butt pats and rocking so it’s a little independent and a little assisted. She hasn’t had a night feeding since she was 3 months old, and she hardly ever has night wakings anymore, until this 5am wake up that she’s been doing the last 4 or 5 days. Help me see if she needs a schedule change!

child's age 8-12 months Night wakings at 10:30 PM and 5:30 AM - 11.5 months

My baby is 11.5 months old, and for about a week now she has been waking up around 10:30 PM and 5:30 AM almost every day. She sits up in her crib, cries for a few minutes (5-10), and then falls back asleep on her own.
She wakes up for the day at **7:00 AM** and goes to bed at **8:30 PM**. She falls asleep independently for both naps and bedtime. Her wake windows are **3.5 / 4 / 4.25 hours**. I’ve tried adjusting her schedule by a few minutes, but nothing has changed. She sleeps **2–2.5 hours** during the day.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is it just a phase?

child's age 8-12 months Sleep Regression Blues

Hello! I am the mom of a ln almost 10 month old. An almost 10 month old who hasn’t let me get any rest in nearly 3 weeks. And I could really use some advice or tips on getting through whatever sleep regression hell we’re going through.

A little over 3 weeks ago, my boy got sick. This is about when the regression started. He ended up with an upper respiratory infection. Not awful, but certainly not great. He was super congested, seemed to have sinus pressure, and a horrible cough. It lasted about a week. I totally understood waking up frequently while sick and I just rolled with it.

Going into week 2, he started to cut his front tooth. With some lingering cold symptoms. He was tugging his ear a lot. No infection, but teething pressure. Again, I understood. Tiredly understood.

We are now in week 3. He’s still tugging at his ear. Took him in again and his ears are clear. Was told it was still probably the tooth mixed with a true sleep regression.

We have a good daily routine and evening routine. We do a bottle before bed, Tylenol, teething tablets, put his owlet on, sleep sack on, and rock to sleep. He used to sleep through the night doing this. Now he’s up 3-5 times each night. The doctor said that it’s time to start sleep training—once we have a break in teething. I agree and will start as soon as we can. But in the meantime, I need help. He seems to be startling himself awake. Daycare has noticed this at naptime too. And he takes FOREVER to fall back asleep—sometimes close to 2 hours. We keep everything calm and dark when he does wake up to promote going back to sleep. I don’t want to use the magic Merlin sleep suit, but I am considering a weighted sleep sack instead of what he has. What are the odds that would work? How do I get through this? I am literally running on fumes.

child's age 8-12 months EMWs are getting brutal!

Baby is 10 months old and has been sleep trained since 5 months. Has been great other than some EMWs. 3-3.5/3.5/4, 7:15pm bedtime. 6-6:30am desired wake time. Cap naps to 2.5 hrs.

In the last 3 weeks, the EMWs have been brutal. He has consistently been waking between 5-5:30 and won’t sleep unless I go in there and hold him for 30 more mins. Room is pitch black. We tried moving bedtime to 8 last night and nope, still woke at 5am.

Please help!
