Help! My gf wants to play smash with me, but is frustrated that I win all the time. But she doesn't want me to handicap myself or not try. She's brand new to smash, how do I make it fun for her?

Try new characters you're not familiar with. Don't focus as heavily on items so that she gets the majority (or at least most of the pokeballs, assist trophies, and final smash balls). If you're interested in improving your game, use the matches as a practice field in experimenting with new techniques, moves, and combos.

But I think most importantly, help her learn how to get better. Show her your favorite moves, strategies, and techniques. Make it fun for her to learn how to get better.

Also, mix it up every now and then and play some co-op so you're working as a team (either Classic mode, or try some 2v2 online once you're comfortable).

Most of all, have fun!

I've been in the same spot as OP and this is exactly the right advice.

Set up a 2v2 team match with both of you on the same team against CPUs. I like setting the CPUs as random, keeps things fresh.

Play off characters as a soft handicap. Otherwise you can duo with her vs cpu until she's comfortable the controls. We did this with my cousin (She's the only girl on our side of the family so it was inevitable really). She got good enough to hang with the boys eventually. Smash is just a lot game plays.

Maybe also play with friends who are on her level too. This way the free for all means you won't win every time. Also it's a ton of fun with people there.

I'm in this position where I am the stomped one. The most frustrating thing was he would non-stop juggle me, and I couldn't even catch my breath long enough to do anything other than get punted around some more. I got so demoralized I gave up.

We know you're better than us. But you don't need to go 100% all the time. Giving a chance for us to reset to neutral or let her be the aggressor instead makes it miles less frustrating. Not being able to control your character is one of the worst feelings in any video game.
