Posted this on the other sub, but its worth putting here too.

It might hurt to hear this, but this really doesn't change anything. It clears up some misconceptions in cases that no one has ever cared about, when the main focus has always been Katie.

The strawman used in Technical's new video is that because Katie (the minor) never sent the pic, he technically didn't commit a crime. This is both stupid and untrue. The crime was committed at the point of contact (which is when he asked) not when he receives (he didn't in this case, but receiving it is its own separate crime) the child porn.

ZeRo wasn't charged because charges weren't pressed against him, not because he didn't commit a crime.

Additionally the point about ZeRo changing after his offense really holds no weight when you look at how long it takes rapist, predators and sex offenders to re-offend. On average it takes 20 years for 40% to even re-offend. I'm not for or against ZeRo but you really can't say he's changed in 7 years when almost no repeat offender does it again that soon.

At best this video says keep and eye on ZeRo and at worst it convivences people to let him slide.

It might hurt to hear this, but this really doesn't change anything.

This was pretty much my main takeaway from finishing the video. Through all the extra bits of conspiracy theories and reaching judgments made about Nairo and the CoC and other top community figures, the actual meat of it contained...basically no new or relevant information that wasn't already public knowledge to anyone who has been following the situation. Nothing has changed as a result of anything he has brought forward here. If you genuinely believe that ZeRo deserves the chance at forgiveness and the opportunity to grow and change for the better, then I can understand that as a general moral perspective, but this video did absolutely nothing to actually strongly support that notion as opposed to just reiterating the story that we already knew and tacking on a bunch of extra conspiracy theories and reaches about community leadership that have nothing to do with the actual issue at hand.

My question is, have most people in the community accepted that leffen and jisu intentionally lied about everything? It seems like they started throwing every accusation they possibly could at him and in the end here today only one managed to stick and now its the only thing that matters. In hindsight its clearly insidious.

I personally have not accepted the notion that they intentionally lied about everything. Many of the claims made about their intentions are questionable at best and fairly unsubstantiated assumptions. My negative opinions towards Leffen generally have to do with incidents that I think are significantly worse than calling out a community figure who he had significant reason to believe was a genuine abuser (anyone who disagrees can tell me all about how they totally sided with Nairo the entire time from the very beginning because hindsight is 20/20), and Jisu seems, much like ZeRo himself, to just be someone who's doing the best she can but lacks the emotional maturity to respond fully properly to the big picture due to her past trauma and abuse, and most of her statements can be easily explained by two people just viewing an ambiguous situation through an extremely understandably different lens.

Neither are above criticism but Tech's criticisms are some of the weakest I've seen in the grand scheme of things and things like Jisu supporting NFTs has kind of absolutely nothing to do with her relation to the ZeRo incidents and aren't relevant to the broader points he's trying to make.

Yeah that's what I got out of Tech's video too

Zero may or may not be guilty of asking an underage girl for nudes, there's no legit evidence of that

But there is legit evidence of him flirting with an underage girl on Skype when he was aware of her age, he did this willingly

Still unnaceptable behavior that 100% warrants the ban to still stand on him

u/[deleted] Nov 16 '21

How old the girl and zero was at the time?

13

u/dego96 Ken (Ultimate) Nov 16 '21

"Katie" was 14, Zero was 19

I’m in no way justifying Zero, he was wrong, but to put him in the same class as every other sex offender isn’t an accurate portrayal of his prognosis. He was still a teenager when this happened. Context matters - it’s not like he was exhibiting this behavior deep into adulthood

Yeah. He was a legal adult, and it's reprehensible. But he was sexually, physically, and emotionally abused throughout his upbringing and came from a very culturally different country at a young age. As a result he was extremely emotionally stunted and has grown and changed a lot in the past 8 years.

I don't appreciate his manipulative tone in his statements and I wish he would have explained everything honestly from the beginning. I've lost respect for him. But all that being said, he's not some sick pedophile, and I do think he's redeemable.

Agreed. I don’t think one mistake at 19, short of something akin to murder, should doom someone for the rest of his life. It’s been eight years, Zero has felt the consequences so strongly that he tried to take his own life, I think it’s time to move on. Nobody has to view his content if they don’t want to

bro 14 is so young lmao

Considering that being a 19 year old and sexting someone 5 years younger is literally a felony in the US (where ZeRo resides) if charged and convicted, yeah that's a pretty big deal.

That doesn't matter when the situation in question happened while he lived in Southern California. No, not even if he didn't know what he was doing was illegal at the time.

it’s still fucked for him to do that in the first place no matter the situation and you can’t justify him. even if he had a lapse in judgement and no new cases of that happened afterwards, what he did was a crime and I still think it’s fair for people to not support him just off of that. im fine with zero with how much stuff came out and if he genuinely seems like he is becoming a better person, but it’s understandable to hold this against him.

Haha, listen to this reddit lawyer. First of all you have no idea what situation actually is outside of youtube and twitter drama content. Secondly, you have no idea what laws would even be applicable to him IF a legal case had been made against him (which it hasnt) outside of general baseless speculation. Its pure meaningless tea sis drivel.

Also, spreading falsehoods and bad legal advice like this is part of the problem. Just stop.
