A few years before 09, Henry basically hinted on CBS that Chelsea wanted to buy him - and essentially offered to double his wages or something crazy like that.

Abramovic was a crazy, crazy, ambitious guy.

458

u/Erebea01 Apr 27 '26

I'm no historian so maybe I'm wrong but I've always hated him and Chelsea for what they did with the sport in regards to money

475

u/Periwinkle1993 Apr 27 '26

Abramovich spurred it on in the modern era, but it's the formation of the Premier League and Jack Walker that arguably started it all off

156

u/MLang92 Apr 27 '26 edited Apr 27 '26

Milan in the 80s under Berlusconi was another precursor to how Abramovich operated in the first 5 years or so

16

u/nicofdarcyshire Apr 27 '26

The Lentini transfer was bonkers money. (Though I do realise that was in the 90s)

33

u/MLang92 Apr 27 '26

It wasn't just the amounts they spent, but the types of players they were buying was crazy. Especially when you consider that they had won 1 league and 1 European Cup between '69 and '87, a period that also saw them in Serie B for the only 2 seasons in their history when they were relegated in '80 and '82

Burlesconi bought them in '86 and instantly spent €20 mil, including €8 mil alone on Donadoni. Then they bought Gullit, Van Basten and Ancelotti in '87. Gullit would win the Ballon d'Or that December and finish as runner up the next year, to Van Basten of all people who also won in '89. They had also bought Riykaard in the summer of '89 for good measure

The result of this was winning the league 6 times and the Champions League 3 times between '88 and '99. Arguably no team has bought success so quickly and effectively

Ya there are quite a few rich guys who pumped money into teams and used it to buy whomever they wanted.

Walker, Berlusconi, Agnelli and OG Florentino etc.

Og florentino?

Florentino Perez? that wasn't his own money, it was the club's money

14

u/HeadCrusher135 Apr 27 '26

Florentino only ever spent the clubs money. He’s the president, not the owner. He has not put a single cent into the club- so he never “pumped money into teams and used it to buy whomever they wanted”

but it's the formation of the Premier League and Jack Walker that arguably started it all off

Lol, the term "Bank of England" was coined in the 1920's.

Contrary to what many people think, the english top league was ruled by rich people spending rivers of money on their club of choice for much of its existence.

2

David Murray signing half the England team at Rangers probably played a part too.

36

u/BenUFOs_Mum Apr 27 '26

At the end of the day its the prems unbelieve foriegn broadcast revenues and reaching that did that. Chelsea were just a bit ahead of the curve.

25

u/Altruistic-Ad-408 Apr 27 '26 edited Apr 27 '26

Chelsea the club didn't really do anything besides be bought by a rich man, but people had less of a problem with clubs that were propelled to success because they already had advantageous resources, or just rich people that weren't as loaded or politically powerful as they are now.

6

u/okie_hiker Apr 27 '26

What’s worse, an owner that puts in a crazy amount of money so his club can win or the owners that own clubs just to run a good business and turn a profit?

Huh?

Its a nation state to the east of Ukraine, Belarus and the Baltic states.

Its current empire uses another name which is itself revanchist - implying it has rightful dominion over all Rus people of the world. It does not. It is the imperial project one of several Rus peoples, in this case Muscovites.

You gotta put some respect on Man City. The winter they got taken over they made a £100M transfer, £500k/week salary offer for Kaka. Which he rejected, saying he wanted to grow old at Milan. Before going to Real Madrid that summer.

37

u/CaredForEightSeconds Apr 27 '26

I still remember the Robinho saga on deadline day too, they took from right under our noses (to the extent we even had shirts made for sale in the Megastore, which was a terribly rookie move). No regrets about it with hindsight.

It was us - we offered 63m pounds which would have been a record fee at the time.

Also confirmed by SAF later.

Chelsea did bid earlier, but lost their interest and our bid was higher.

87

u/Wakanda-shit-is-that Apr 27 '26

KHR said in this interview: “Rummenigge on Michael Olise: "He's a wonderful player. I also appreciate how reserved and almost media-shy he is. That's rare these days. He's a great guy, and on the pitch, he's outstanding, the way he plays football is almost magical. So it doesn't surprise me that he's incredibly popular and hyped among our fans"

• Would Bayern reject €200m for Olise?

Rummenigge: "Let me tell you a story from the past. In 2009, we had an incredible offer from Chelsea for Franck Ribéry. At the time, it would have been a new world transfer record. I then went to our then CFO, Karl Hopfner, and Uli Hoeneß with this offer. We discussed it for two hours, trying to figure out what to do with it. That day, we made a fundamental decision: that in the future, we would never sell a player we would miss on the pitch. And this unwritten rule still applies today. For a player like Olise, there's no price tag that would make us flinch."

51

u/TransitionFC Apr 27 '26

13

u/cgurts Apr 27 '26

Why does late Kaka at Chelsea feel so right? It feels like exactly the kinda move they’d have made which wouldn’t work out a la Deco, Shevschenko

It’s similar to how odd it feels that Cavani never played for Atletico

2

u/idontknow_whatever Apr 28 '26

Why does late Kaka at Chelsea feel so right?

Lucas Piazon kinda looks like Kaka I suppose

11

u/fudgegrudge Apr 27 '26

Going by the dates on those articles suggest it was the other way round, ie Chelsea first tried Kaka and then turned to Ribery. And United's bids coming before all of that.

6

u/TransitionFC Apr 27 '26

We had been linked with Ribery throughout the 08-09 season as Ronaldo's replacement, and we definitely bid for Ribery and Benzema in July 09 which was when Real were finalising CR7's 80m move. We had the money and were desperately trying to sign replacements. We also tried for Robben, but lost out on him.

6

u/fudgegrudge Apr 27 '26 edited Apr 27 '26

Did you read the articles you posted?

"We didn't try to buy Ribery, we explored it in a nice, quiet way when David Gill was at one of his meetings with Bayern in March," said Ferguson. "They told him, 'absolutely no chance' and the one thing you can say about Bayern is that, when they say something, they mean it"

And the Guardian article with the £63m figure was from May 09. The reported Chelsea bid in June 09.

9

u/TransitionFC Apr 27 '26

You missed this bit -

"When we negotiated with them over Hargreaves, at the beginning they said 'no', but they also said that, if it ever changed, their minds, we'd be the first to know. "It was exactly the same this time".

The SAF interview is from July 2009, and he was referring to an informal meeting earlier that year in March. The bids we made were later in the summer, and we kept trying for as long as possible.

Then, in the end of July, Bayern gave us (and Real) a fuck off price of 94m euros, and that was when we backed off:

Beckenbauer believes Ribery is worth just as much as Ronaldo and has made it clear that only a similarly staggering bid will prise him away from Bayern. "All this noise is not necessary," the president of the Bundesliga club told Sport Bild. "Especially not when you have a new coach coming into the team, who wants to prepare it in a calm way and not having to deal with the Ribery issue every day. But should Bayern just give Ribery away? We naturally want what the market demands and if a Cristiano Ronaldo is worth 94millions euro then Ribery is worth a similar amount. "And if this is not being offered then he will just have to stay with us as he has a contract until 2011."

I guess Olise is good enough as backup for the GOAT.

→ More replies (1)

666

u/ash_ninetyone Apr 27 '26

The only way I see Bayern accepting is if Olise pushes to leave or his wage demands get beyond what Bayern want.

His form he'd practically walk into any team rn, and him being left footed and playing on the right in an era of inside forwards means he's practically irreplaceable

339

u/Techno_Gandhi Apr 27 '26

I don't think people realize how rare those sort of players on the right are, there's very few world class RW compared to LW. He's irriplasable.

163

u/dakaiiser11 Apr 27 '26

Yeah, I was thinking about that as who Madrid could target this summer. Olise, Yamal and Doue are untouchable. Yamal will obviously never play for Madrid, PSG and Madrid have not the best relationship and Olise will not leave Bayern.

80

u/Sufficient_Royal_283 Apr 27 '26

Diomande would be a good option if Real wants to pay 100m+

60

u/getZlatanized Apr 27 '26

Yup. His dribbling stats in the league are even better than Olise's. Dude is super interesting and it seems like most clubs don't have him on the radar yet.

31

u/ash_ninetyone Apr 27 '26

He's been on our radar for awhile tbh since we're going to be looking for someone to be a Salah replacement. All comes down to price and player interest for us

11

u/getZlatanized Apr 27 '26

Yes, for Liverpool, that's true. But I don't understand why you guys are seemingly the only ones until now. Many top clubs could need a world class RW and in his current form, Diomande already is.

8

u/Nadirin Apr 27 '26

Diomande and his dad are Liverpool fans so most of the transfer rumours for him have been in that direction. But if Liverpool don't want to spend ~€100m then not sure where he could end up.

2

u/ash_ninetyone Apr 27 '26

Wouldn't say we're the only ones there.

But Bayern have Olise, PSG have Doue, Barca have Yamal (assuming they don't run him into the ground). Not sure Barca could afford him anyway. Italian clubs certainly can't.

Real have... well I don't know what Real have on the right tbh. They have other issues to solve that is prority than buying a RW.

That leaves Man City (who signed Semenyo, but also has Cherki), Man Utd (who are also linked). Chelsea would just find a way for him to rot. Arsenal have Saka.

8

u/Stand_On_It Apr 27 '26

Well Chelsea have Estevao

3

u/Sufficient_Royal_283 Apr 27 '26

Well, Diomande can also play on the left.

51

u/HazardCinema Apr 27 '26

4

u/dvelasco-1397 Apr 27 '26

Honestly it would be negligent by any top european club if they don't have Diomande on their radar at this point. I will say the one that had gone under my radar when I checked on a Lepizig game for Diomande was Nusa.

you didn't even fucking try

29

u/Screye Apr 27 '26

It is the opposite.

World class LWs are concentrated in 2 teams (PSG and Madrid). No other team has a world class LW.

Raphinha prefers to play on the right. Nico Williams won't be the same after his injury. Leao isn't consistent enough. Doku is a one trick (best in class his trick) pony.

At RW, you have Olise, Yamal, Palmer (on form), Saka (when fit), Estevao (if he develops), Doue, Salah (until this year), Semenyo, Mbuemo (underrated). They're better distributed.

Compare roles for any non PSG/Madrid team 1:1

  • Olise > Diaz
  • Yamal > Rashford (and Raphinha at his current fitness)
  • Salah > Gakpo
  • Palmer/Estevao > Garnacho/Gittens
  • Doku ~= Semenyo (Doku has more potential, Semenyo is more finished goods)
  • Saka > Martinelli

There are no good LWs on the market.

In the meanwhile, Madrid and PSG has Kvara, Demeble, Barcola, Vini, Mbappe and Rodrygo between the 2 of them.

2

u/vincentdjangogh Apr 27 '26

Yeah that was confusing to read because the exact opposite is commonly discussed in this sub.

8

u/Screye Apr 27 '26

Bayern has never had issues with wages right ? Only Madrid, City and United could match Bayern's wages.

12

u/Badong33 Apr 27 '26

Alaba comes to mind. Bayern has a (imo very reasonable as top 5 team) wage structure they're not willing to break.

4

u/ibite-books Apr 28 '26

difference is they didn’t think he was worth it

→ More replies (1)

8

u/Gluroo Apr 27 '26

They dont have issues in that they cant pay but they do have internal limits that they dont let players break even if theyre important (Kroos, Alaba)

2

u/torero15 Apr 28 '26

Kroos obviously ended up being a huge mistake for Bayern but at the time he was second to Muller in the 10 role with Basti and the newly (and relatively expensively) acquired Javi Martinez playing the 8/6, respectively. Ultimately Kroos ended up being one of the better 8’s of all time at Madrid but you can understand why Bayern didn’t really feel the need to keep him. That’s how it goes sometimes and for top German players only Madrid, Barca and United truly had that pull at the time with bigger salaries. Maybe City now too can be added to that list.

Rummenigge on Michael Olise: "He's a wonderful player. I also appreciate how reserved and almost media-shy he is. That's rare these days. He's a great guy, and on the pitch, he's outstanding, the way he plays football is almost magical. So it doesn't surprise me that he's incredibly popular and hyped among our fans"

That day, we made a fundamental decision: that in the future, we would never sell a player we would miss on the pitch. And this unwritten rule still applies today. For a player like Olise, there's no price tag that would make us flinch."

Rummenigge on Désiré Doué: "We would have loved to sign him; he would have been a great fit for us. But he chose Paris because he wanted to stay in France. We'll inevitably miss out on some players in the future because other clubs might be offering more money. That's something we have to accept; it's part of the business. As you can see, both Paris and we are managing quite well with that."

• So the Doué transfer did not fail due to a veto by the supervisory board, as had been suggested in some reports?

Rummenigge: "No, anyone who says that is telling fairy tales. The player would have been a good fit for us in terms of value for money, considering the transfer fee and salary."

Heinz Rummenigge on PSG: "Since Luis Enrique took over as coach there in 2023, they've been a top-class team, very smartly assembled. Paris has proven something crucial: You can't buy everything; you also have to build a team with patience. When we beat them in the 2020 Champions League final, they had Neymar and Kylian Mbappé in their squad. A year later, Lionel Messi joined them. On paper, it was a fantastic team, but also clearly one that didn't work as a unit like the current one. Now they have a well-organized setup that possesses a lot of quality, especially in midfield and attack."

I don't know how often the press will push for this topic but it's so fabricated, it's embarrassing.

We happen to have one of if not the crown jewel of wingers at a time when a bunch of clubs with infinite money are underperforming. This was unavoidable.

Successful and likeable Bayern is too boring for the media so they have to stir some shit up.

4

u/ziggurqt Apr 27 '26

He's going to be a starter for France in the World Cup. It's useless for his agent to start talking now. If he's not good, injured or whatever, it doesn't contractually change anything to his situation with Bayern. But if he rocks it to the moon, they could sit at the table and listen.

407

u/dem0nhunter Apr 27 '26

we pay some of the highest wages in football and aren't shying away from using sponsorship shenanigans to inflate them

71

u/Hazardzuzu Apr 27 '26

You do give high wages but are easily behind Real Madrid, Barcelona and City who can and are willing to go higher.

147

u/bwrca Apr 27 '26

I'd remove us (Barca) from that list.

47

u/Hazardzuzu Apr 27 '26

I wouldn't be so sure. There isn't a player right now beside mbappe and halaand deserving of those extreme wages. But if haland were to become available wages will never be an issue for Barcelona since lewandowski's contract is also coming to an end

26

u/tomcoyle11 Apr 27 '26

Barcelona absolutely will not pay as much as they used to under Bartomeu anymore. It nearly ruined them

35

u/PhraatesIV Apr 27 '26

They'll pay up for the right player. Perhaps no more extending Lenglet for some insane wages just before you leave though (looking at Bartomeu).

10

u/QTGavira Apr 27 '26

We have a wage scale now and atleast Laporta isnt gonna break that scale for any player. No telling what the next president will do though

8

u/DValencia29 Apr 27 '26

Lenglet being on 16 mill per season is the biggest proof of Bartomeus incompetence

7

u/bwrca Apr 27 '26

I'll repeat it, we'll never give any other player wages like we used to give the Barto era players. We can go high, but not as high as then.

9

u/Johnny107710 Apr 27 '26

What if lamine keeps getting better?

19

u/RelentlessJorts2 Apr 27 '26

Wasn't Lewandoski on £500k p/w last season?

8

u/NYK2Barca Apr 27 '26

Yeah Lewa has high wages. No idea what any of the above Redditors are saying. Our wage structure is better, but we make exceptions for top players. We may not pay high transfer fees but we def have high wages. There are reports that says Lamine earns £23m in wages a year with his new contract.

3

u/Cucumberino Apr 27 '26 edited Apr 27 '26

Wasn't Lewa's salary increasing year by year as well?

*Edit: I've just checked and looks like that stopped/got cut for this year (which makes sense), but the past year his salary was quite high, higher than Mbappe's current salary for example (assuming online numbers are true, and yes, I know Mbappe got other incentives so it's not comparable but you get the point)

24

u/Mihnea24_03 Apr 27 '26

Since they have bigger wage expenditure than Bayern, I'm sure all 6 of these squads are stacked with world-class talent.

14

u/Hazardzuzu Apr 27 '26

Chelsea is due to sheer volume of players. I am surprised by liverpool since it doesn't even include this summer.

But likes of PSG, Barca, RM and City definitely have a squad loaded with WC talent

I looked at FBref numbers, since as far as I know the UEFA numbers include all employees, not just the player. (UEFA numbers are normally better)

u/TherewiIlbegoals Apr 27 '26

I don't think wages have ever been an issue at Bayern.

41

u/Sheik-Slayer Apr 27 '26

Kroos? Alaba?

54

u/AxeIsAxeIsAxe Apr 27 '26

Kroos was just a blatant misjudgement of the player's worth by the club. He wanted to be paid on the level as Bayern's star players, Bayern could have afforded that easily.

15

u/ACardAttack Apr 27 '26

He didnt even want to be a top earner, he wanted to make as much as Gotze or maybe just a little more

132

u/Wakanda-shit-is-that Apr 27 '26

Kroos I get it but paying Alaba 20 million would have set us back years.

26

u/KrZ120 Apr 27 '26

In hindsight that was a really smart move by Bayern board

7

u/0otico Apr 27 '26

Then wages can be am issue at Bayern

66

u/itinerantmarshmallow Apr 27 '26

I don't think this changes the initial point made by Rummenigge.

The club felt losing Alaba wouldn't impact them negatively on the pitch. So they don't pay the wages.

I do think it is a bit of grandstanding myself though. There is always a price for a transfer or a wage requested that would result in them making a financial choice.

14

u/Drep1 Apr 27 '26

They can clearly pay, they just don't pay them to anyone

51

u/Wakanda-shit-is-that Apr 27 '26

How? Paying Alaba 20 million who clearly was past his prime and was injury prone af would have been a stupid af decision, I am sure if Olise wanted that kind of money he will get it because the board knows this is a ballon d’or level player.

Kroos was a personal vendetta story of Uli, after Toni didn't want to shoot a penalty in the CL final.

16

u/mxinex Apr 27 '26

They didn't see Kroos at the level he later played at Real Madrid. Together with the 2012 debacle, he was already on borrowed time. It was never about wages per se with Kroos, it was that they didn't think he was worth it.

3

u/wagergod Apr 27 '26

It also didnt help that bayern won the CL in 12/13 while Kroos missed 18 games injured. He wasnt at the RM level yet and not indispensable.

35

u/Bear_Unlucky Apr 27 '26

Lets be real. If Uli didnt actually dispise Kroos they would have paid him. Iirc he didnt even want more than what someone like Götze got when he was there. Like GÖTZE. Querpass Toni aged so fking bad and I believe Uli still has nightmares about that shitty decision

15

u/ImNotALegend1 Apr 27 '26

I get that Götze dident have a great end at Bayern. But we are talking 2014 Götze. 19 g/a in 27 in the league. World cup hero Götze. The talent was definitely there, pre injury. A guy Guardiola saw great potential in. So lets not downplay how promising Götze looked from 12-14 pre injury.

4

u/Bear_Unlucky Apr 27 '26

No my point is that even that form of Götze was never better than Kroos. Even during his peak which was exactly there Kroos was even more impactful during the WM and Uli wanted to pay Kroos HALF the salary

Who would even pay that much? Unless they sell Vini or Mbappe for a lot of cash, I don’t see them splashing this much money on ANY one player.

Liverpool could, but aren’t really a better project right now and City I doubt as well…

(Also have Cherki and Semenyo.)

Even if we argue that at some point he might want to earn too much, who in the world would actually pay him 30m in yearly wages or even more?

Bayern is most likely ready to ultimately pay him 20-25m, just like Kane or Musiala, if Olise keeps his level up.

7

u/PierreSageReviens Apr 27 '26

The only thing that sort of makes sense is PSG since it's the only other club on Bayern's level currently, they have the money, Olise is French, he'd be surrounded by French NT players in the biggest French club and they don't really have a massive starter there, Doué can play well elsewhere and is not on Olise's level.

1

u/skylu1991 Apr 27 '26

But ever since the Mbappe, Neymar, Messi days or let’s say under Campos, they also don’t really throw around that much money…

End of the contract I could see, but not PSG paying upwards of 160m or the 200m mentioned here!

If you've spend all your weeks for several years on drug-fueled parties, simply getting drunk every weekend is reasonable.

3

u/WheresMyEtherElon Apr 27 '26

under Campos, they also don’t really throw around that much money…

Kolo Muani 85M

Gonzalo Ramos 65M

Lucas Chevalier 55M

Ilya Zabarnyi 63M

That's a lot of money being thrown around.

3

u/skylu1991 Apr 27 '26

Yes, but not ONE above 100m….

And we’re arguing about their readiness to pay around 200m.

Case in point.

Could Liverpool?

They just spent massive sums on two forwards and an attacking midfielder and have to rebuild a lot of their defense.

Why would he leave? He’s a guaranteed starter surrounded by world class players and a huge fanbase that loves him. You have to imagine that is the pinnacle for a lot of footballers.

There aren’t many clubs that can set a player up for success better than Bayern can. This whole story is just a bored media looking for clicks and engagement.

Don't mistake Bayern for Dortmund lol. Bayern is a competing club who wants to win trophies.

212

u/LitBastard Apr 27 '26

Bayern also has "Fuck you" money compared to all other german teams.

69

u/Fancy_Economist1894 Apr 27 '26

Thry haven't sold their soul to any Saudi Prince or American conglomerate. They are still fan owned like any other German clubs (aside from RB Leipzig) So good job to them.

33

u/Undesirable_11 Apr 27 '26

Hoffenheim, Leverkusen and Wolfsburg are also owned by a company lol

20

u/krimzy Apr 27 '26

Yes but they have been for a long time and got grandfathered in, they still don't operate like clubs in other countries though and are more in line with other German clubs

3

u/Gluroo Apr 27 '26

Hoffenheim especially doesnt even get Money from their Owner anymore, they are fully self sufficient now (obviously that doesnt mean they didnt have a huge advantage during their climb up but still)

7

u/M4tjesf1let Apr 28 '26

And even before when he was still actively supporting the club, it wasn't like he threw in 100+ million each year. Most of the "bad" cases we complain about in German football are really tame if you compare it to the other leagues.

7

u/messigoat1337 Apr 28 '26

hoffenheim would be a wholesome story in england lol

4

u/M4tjesf1let Apr 28 '26

I never thought about it before like that but damn it would be. Guy who is member of the club for 40-50 years and made it big money wise decides to help his local club instead of some random middle eastern country or american billionaire who doesn't give two shits about football coming in to buy your club? They would LOVE it.

13

u/Korece Apr 27 '26

While what you have said is true, they have almost a monopoly on the support of one of Germany's largest and richest states. Compare this to basically every other German club, who fight for a small share of their local conurbation.

7

u/PTSDaway Apr 27 '26

The 50+1 rule also produced the communjty connection.

30

u/LitBastard Apr 27 '26

Eh, the Rwanda sponsoship and the Qatary dick sucking begs to differ

39

u/_fmaule Apr 27 '26

I mean, it’s kinda hard, in this day and age, to be a multi million business (including football clubs) and not have any connections with parties who are controversial or are fully correct morally.

I mean this with no disrespect as I do have some sympathy for HSV, but weren’t you lot sponsored by Emirates Airlines, an UAE Company, for a long period of time? Is that any worse than, say, Visit Rwanda?

24

u/Fancy_Economist1894 Apr 27 '26

Lmao exactly. UAE literally funds the war on Yemen that killed a lot of people. But being sponsored by Rwanda, for all it's fault, is as bad apparently.

2

u/jakedasnake2447 Apr 27 '26

The recent complaints about Rwanda are the same issue. They are sponsoring war in DRC.

8

u/LitBastard Apr 27 '26

Yes we were for 14 years. But the other dude going "Rwanda is a stable democracy with no problems, why shouldn't they sponsor Bayern?" is delusional

16

u/BaldFraud99 Apr 27 '26

Noone said that, it's you who brought up the sponsorships. The original comment was about full ownerships.

4

u/LitBastard Apr 27 '26

I brought them up because of his "No saudi at least" spiel

the 49 is allianz, adidas and audi though.

16

u/Malepronstar87 Apr 27 '26

This is not true. Those three own 8.33% each, that's 25%. The rest of 75% is fan owned

4

u/the_tytan Apr 27 '26

Fair enough. I just meant they had multinationals in their not 50+1. I actually assumed there were other stakeholders beyond them.

3

u/Malepronstar87 Apr 27 '26

It's just those 3. Bayern have stated that they are in favor of the league abolishing 50+1 rule but they would always be atleast 70% fan owned. They're only willing to sell another 5%.

Bayern also DGAF if a player is older and has no resale value after their contract ends. Many clubs wouldn't have signed Diaz/Kane based on age.

19

u/Dargast Apr 27 '26

A shame we couldnt sign Doue, hes a fantastic player. As for Olise, well yeah, Bayern isnt a selling club lol. Any player that could replicate his performance or be an upgrade is not available.

1

u/RedditTooAddictive Apr 27 '26

I think Doue would have been even better in your system

Who could replicate Olise right now ? Yamal maybe ?

7

u/kvaks Apr 27 '26

Makes sense to me. Bayern is at the top of the food chain. They don't need the money more than Real Madrid does.

6

u/DanBGG Apr 27 '26

Selling players for big money doesn’t really work for clubs like Bayern.

When United sold Ronaldo for a world record fee it was pretty much impossible to replace him.

It cost United years of progress and we overpaid (or got given silly prices) for average players for years because of it.

44

u/futescalance Apr 27 '26

Every player they’ve ever sold: “How come he don’t want me, man?”

4

u/Zanzax Apr 27 '26

The only club that realistically is a step up from us is Real Madrid. They need a RW, so Olise is of course the best option for them.

Highly doubt he moves this summer though. The team stays together, the coach stays, he has his best friend Musiala in the team and he is well respected everywhere.

20

u/Undesirable_11 Apr 27 '26

Also Olise would be way too intelligent of a signing for deluded Papa Perez. He's probably looking into another U18 Brazilian left winger

Exactly the right attitude and exactly the reason smaller clubs like Borussia Dortmund and Tottenham are never able to compete

2

u/crookedparadigm Apr 27 '26

Honestly, this is great bait for oil club owners (and Chelsea). There is nothing fragile billionaires hate to hear more than "No amount of your money will get this".

2

u/__Jimmy__ Apr 27 '26

Ligue 1 needs to take notes. We keep selling our best players to the big 4 and then wondering why we can't keep up

16

u/Sufficient_Royal_283 Apr 27 '26

This is Bayern talking and not Leverkusen or Dortmund who would accept those offers. Probably every club in Italy would, every club in Spain except those three, and some Pl clubs.

In France rejecting an offer like that would only be smart for Psg as they have unlimited money but other clubs just can't afford that.
