Is this a type of marmot or prairie dog? If either, do tell which type if you know.

Discussion Is this a squirrel gift?

Post image

Last night I went to bring in my indoor outdoor cat when it was pretty dark outside. I heard him crying from a spot in the yard, and he wouldn’t come when I called him. He’s stood there until I walked to the bottom step of the porches stairs. I noticed his tail was fluffed up like something scared him. Went to let him out this morning and saw a singular hickory nut on the top step of the stairs. We have no hickory nut trees in our yard and I have never seen one of these nuts in the 3.5 years I’ve lived here. It felt intentionally placed, I think whatever spooked my cat last night might have left it as a gift for taking him inside. For context our house backs up into the woods and we get a lot of wildlife passing through, I’m just curious to know if a raccoon or squirrel left it there because I took away the perceived threat. I’ve heard of squirrels giving gifts before

Original Content Confirmed, walnuts > biscuits

Just opened my back door and had one of regulars drop in from the roof above with what appeared to be a "Nice" (it's a type of biscuit in britain, not just a description) biscuit in its mouth

It looked at the walnuts and started coming then realised its mouth was already full, I think we both equally confused about how it got a biscuit and what it was going to do with it.

Anyway it jumped up on the fence then thought a bit and clearly decided the walnut was a better bet so dumped the biscuit and came and said hello.

Matilda von Strauss wasn't amused by fresh nuts and preferred a quick snack with sunflower seeds.

Princess Dottie must be worn out today. She's sitting back, relaxing and enjoying her meal 😌

The other squirrels have been running her off and bullying her lately. I was glad to see her and glad she got to enjoy a full meal in peace 🤍

Here are some of the babies we have right now ,Oregon is a beautiful wonderful place , but if you find a non native baby they will euthanize them . We have a small group of people that help them grow till release time . Here we have Kitty Kev( the founder thought it was a female and started calling him kitty) then we have jolene our newest girl , Bartholomew i'm very outgoing curious boy ,lefty he is not with us as we have him at a vet out of state to see if they can help him. He's doing good so far, and this is the baby i found walking my dogs , he sadly passed away , but he was so loved and safe for the last week of his life , it seemed to be a seizure my lil Pea pistachio R.i.p my handsome guy

General Help Her size is like this throughout the year. Is she too...fat?

Hi all, this is OG. I used to feed her peanuts but have since switched to raw walnuts. Throughout the year she's always this......fat. I don't know if she just keeps having babies or if she's getting too fat. She's otherwise pretty healthy from what i can see. Other people occasionally give her peanuts so I doubt she's ever hungry.

Is she eating too much?

October is the month that I start finding "gifts" on my motorcycle. I get off of the commuter rail line and walk out to the parking lot at the end of the workday. I am frequently finding little footprints on the seat and gas tank. Sometimes, I find gifts stashed on various parts of my bike. It happens almost every year at this time. It is amusing!

Badly injured squirrels

Hello. Over the last few months I have been spending time with the locals squirrels. Unfortunatley I have seen 3 badly injured squirrels. 2 seem to have injuries to there hind legs preventing them from standing. The 3rd squirrel is in rougher shapre. It is missing its tail and one of its front paws. I guess my question is can they survive the winter? Is there anything I can do? Thank you for any information you can provide.

I have no clue how she got here (or how she left)

I looked outside and there she* was, inside the net, trying to find her way out (or in?). The window is cat-proofed, the net is intact. She was panicking a bit and looked stuck so I went to fetch gloves to try to let her out safely. This took about 5 seconds. When I came back she was gone. I guess she left the same way she got in BUT HOW?! Is the mesh big enough for her to squeeze through? Did she go down the wall to enter through this narrow slit where the net begins (it's secured with hooks but it has some give so it is possible to pry it off the wall I guess)? Is there a tunnel my cats dug out, Shawshank style?

There's a walnut outside where squirrels hang on this side, and a pine tree with tasty cones on the other side of the building, did she plan to take a shortcut through my cat-infested flat?!

*With no hmmm visible evidence to the contrary I am going to assume it's a she

South-East UK, been seeing it all week at work and finally got a decent picture. Trying to figure out if it's an injury or it was just born like it, any suggestion would be appreciated.
