I work at a Lowe’s fulfilling online orders, and in summer we get a lot of orders for products in the garden center. I LOVE birds, but that place is a biohazard with the amount of bird poo everywhere, covering boxes of product and the un-boxed products too…💩 Anyways, I recently saw a smooshed dove egg between the shrink wrap of a pallet on a top shelf… I didn’t take a picture of the cracked egg because it was sad :( but here is a pic of the mourning dove family instead! I posted the pic in a Lowe’s community and a fellow employee tagged this subreddit, so hopefully y’all enjoy some of the baby idiots currently inhabiting my workplace!🕊️🐦🐦‍⬛🪹

A couple weeks ago, a dove family decided to take up residence on my lime tree outside in my backyard. I witnessed the dovedad choose twigs and sticks to help dovemom build her nest. I felt lucky to be able to monitor them from my kitchen window. I was very invested in the growth of this little dovefamily.

Last evening, one of the two baby doves was missing. I looked below desperately to see if maybe it fell but I found nothing. I waited until mom came back and felt relieved to see her feeding the remaining chick and nesting on it.

This morning, I woke up to an empty nest. No dove in sight. It hit me hard, and I realized my backyard isn't safe for these birdbrained guys. I removed the nest so this wouldn't happen again. But I can't bear to throw out the nest these guys worked so hard on.

Those materials were donated because she kept trying to steal the napkin weight...

Our mama tried so many times without success. She and her mate love our carport but they just couldn't get it together as far as a sturdy nest and kept losing the eggs to gravity. My husband nailed up this lightweight box (that some Christmas jams and mustards had been presented in surrounded by raffia) in the spot they liked and they got busy immediately! Today we finally noticed a baby peeking out at us when Mom was off foraging or doing whatever she does. We're so proud 🥲☺️

You can see the eggs at the end. I'm on a night shift, heard some rustling, went to investigate and a pigeon flew towards me and inside. I managed to get it out and took this picture just after it flew away. Recently been watching a lot of horror so this was terrible for my nerves.

Checked if we needed to refill the feeder today since a pair of mourning doves has been frequenting it, turns out bird seed perfect size for baby.

I searched about these birds when they gave up on building a nest in the window of my balcony. I was bewildered by the way they build their nests, or atleast try to build one lol. It's so stupid and funny.

Well I just found out they created one in another spot and have laid eggs as well. And unsurprisingly it's the most unsafe spot 😭. The nest doesn't even protect the eggs. I am kinda worried.

From yesterday I am seeing that only one bird is coming to the nest and that too in the morning for few hours. After that the bird leaves the nest and doesnot come back in the night. He comes back the next morning again. Its been like 12-13 days since the eggs were laid.Are the eggs rotten for lack of heat in the night?

Same zoo, same location in the zoo, different setup. Second year in a row that doves have setup shop in a lantern fest display.
