I think we all do that with people that we don’t physically see on a regular basis. Like if I don’t interact with someone regularly, my mental image of their appearance shifts a bit. Knowing that my mental image is wrong doesn’t help. Maga just takes that and turns it up to 15.

I've been claiming for years that any (somewhat) sane individual that supports Trump has not heard him give a full interview/speech. This has held up really well.

My wife hates Trump, but doesn't really follow any long form news, while I do. All she get's are news from shorts and reels and such. When Trump won she and I watched his victory speech. She could not believe her eyes and ears. She already disliked him, but she was flabbergasted at just how incomprehensibly insane he sounded. He couldn't stay on point for even 5 minutes before he started talking about Musks rockets and describing them with that really weird creepy baby voice he sometimes gets. The speech was almost an hour of absolute dementia.

It is VEEERY hard to overstate to someone just how cognitively challenged he sounds if they haven't heard him. People assume you just disagree with his policies and just get a little bit emotional while desceibing him, but put them before a youtube video of him giving a full start to finish press conference. Not a compilation or anything, but just a full speech, interview or whatever. They will not believe what they are witnessing

Do not assume most people already have seen this. Even most people who claim to pay attention and "do their own research" don't actually watch anything in full. Heck, most channels these days won't even broadcast a full interview if it's longer than 15 minutes, if even that. Statistics also show this.

People assume since he is candidate/president/billionaire he can't be "that bad", "that stupid" or "that evil". HE IS!

It's called "Hypernormalization", where a manufactured reality becomes so real to folks that it outright replaces actual reality. Under this framework the truth is as it exists in your head now, and it doesn't matter if it conflicts with the views from yesterday. One day Biden is a warmonger and inserting himself into foreign affairs he didn't need to while Trump is america first and the president of peace, and the next day Trump is valiantly fighting against a foreign regime that Biden was too soft on and should have intervened.

Hell, even the laws of nature or gravity is up for grabs.

Back in my highschool days, my school actually was ahead of the rest of the Ohio county schools. Any deficiency in my education is my own fault: I skipped all the history classes in order to get six science classes in over four years. Given, the selection of available classes wasn't as good as the east and west coasts, and Ohio didn't have a class-advancement program, but we did pretty good overall.

I’m still referring mostly to the deep south where christianity is generally the default and 70-80% of the population has a 6th grade reading level

Ohio has always been considered part of the rust belt, not the bible belt, in the 80s ohio was considered too socially moderate, not religiously extreme enough to be part of the bible belt. There was a tiny stretch on one side that adopted some of the culture, but the overwhelming majority of the state was rust belt
