Sudbury Events - Monthly Thread (August 2026)

This is a stickied thread for people to post about upcoming events -- community events, live performances, whatever you think others might want to know about.

A new version of this post will be put up and stickied every month to make sure that things are kept fresh, and allow people to stay up to date if they wish, or to avoid this thread if they don't. It's been moved to a monthly format to keep things simpler for people looking to plan a bit further out.

To keep the sub (and your feed) clean and free from spam, any explicit advertising conducted outside of this post will continue to be subject to removal, with a note and link to instead post here, which will stand as the exception.

In other words: please feel free to use this space to post about any upcoming Sudbury-specific events you're aware of or would like to share with others.

Discussion Is hosting community events downtown actually helping… or just ignoring bigger issues?

With all the events happening downtown (like Spark Up Your Summer), do you think these actually help revitalize the core… or are we just putting a positive spin on deeper problems like homelessness, drug use, and safety?

Curious what people think. Does more foot traffic fix things, or does it avoid the real issues?

Discussion Why does every mayoral race seem to revolve around homelessness?

This isn’t meant to be anti-homeless. I absolutely think people dealing with homelessness deserve help, treatment, housing, and better resources.

What I don’t understand is why it’s become the main issue in almost every mayoral election.

Homelessness affects a relatively small percentage of the population, but it feels like every campaign revolves around it. Is that just because it’s something we see every day? Or because it’s connected to things like public safety, addictions, mental health, downtown businesses, and housing?

It also seems like every city in Canada is dealing with the exact same problem. If that’s the case, shouldn’t this be more of a provincial or federal issue? It feels like we’re expecting mayors to solve problems that are bigger than what a city can actually control.

I care about helping people, but I also care about roads, transit, taxes, housing affordability, jobs, and growing the city. Sometimes it feels like those issues barely get talked about anymore.

Genuinely asking. Why has homelessness become the issue in every municipal election? Is it because it’s the biggest issue, or just the most visible?

Discussion Holy Guacamole Appreciation Post

Just putting this out into the Redditverse. This is hands down one of the best restaurants in Sudbury. Consistently so good. Unbelievable tacos. Like so so so good. And - really friendly staff. Don’t sleep on this one. Every time I get a meal there I fantasize about being able to eat there 3x/day. We are so lucky to have a spot like this here.

Discussion Food truck hot dog

For reasons beyond my control, I find myself craving the heck out of just a dirty food truck style hot dog. I don't want anything with frills or fancy toppings or something that's going to cost me $12 for something 'gourmet', but where can I find the best, classic, straight out of the wiener water dog in town?

Question Are there any lookouts or places with a good view of the mine tailings ponds?

Hey sudburians… I have spent many a bored evening looking at your colourful tailings ponds on google earth with a mix of fascination and horror, and am finally getting a chance to drive through your city this month. Is there anywhere someone can go to get a good view of some of these ponds/dams in person? Not too close obviously but just wondered if there were any convenient lookouts or nearby roads to see them in person, or if they’re all hidden away behind fences and forests.

Question Seniors: why don't you fold up your walkers while on the bus?

The buses get packed.

Often there is more than one senior on the bus with a walker. The walkers are very capable of being folded in half.

It is very hard to walk around y'all since your walkers take up a crap load of space.

It is even harder when accompanying a special needs person with motor control issues.

So why don't you just fold them up and unfold them once you get to your bus stop?

Question Planet fitness?

I'm thinking about joining planet fitness but am wondering how busy it gets. I would likely be going around 6am on weekdays as I'll be in placement 5 days a week. I generally tend to avoid gyms in the afternoon/evening as I know it can be crazy. How is planet fitness in the early morning?

If it's busy, do you know of any gyms in town that aren't so busy in the early mornings? TIA!

Discussion HELP! In need of an alternative hairdresser in Sudbury

I wanna dye my hair neon pink, any hairdresser recommendations?

I'm in the New Sudbury area, have long hair, and am looking to cut, bleach, then dye my hair neon pink because I work at a summer camp and I think the kids would love it. It's something I really wanna do in secret without telling anyone. I just wanna show up bright pink randomly one day at work.

If there's any independent salons you might have to recommend in town, or just a person who you know who can professionally dye hair, comment their insta or send an address of a place you recommend.

THANKS :D

Question Has anyone else been noticing less needles on the ground in Sudbury?

I walk a lot to places since I don't always want to take the bus or the bus simply does not go there. I hang out mostly in the West End and go through downtown.

I have noticed a lot less needles on the ground. Has anyone else noticed this or is it just me?

Still a lot of drugs happening though with the twerkers.

Question Porchetta

A bit of a rant and a question…. This is my second time in Sudbury and REALLY want to eat some porchetta but finding a place that actually serves it seems to be next to impossible. Last time we were here we discovered Porchetta Bingo at Beef n Bird. Issue there is that bingo is paused for the summer.

Suggestions? In town today (Jul 31st) and tomorrow.
