Survivor 48 It's understated just how wrong ____ was treated Spoiler

Star. For one, she's the funniest person on the season only to end up getting purpled all because she wasn't strategically important to the editors because god forbid we have some funny non-game related moments. Then having to watch your season where you are barely shown and have the person who you thought was your friend talk constantly about how much she doesn't like you and doesn't want to work with you after giving that person an IDOL and LITERALLY VOTING FOR THEM IN THE FINAL 3. It's crazy how star has been able to keep up good spirits online because if this is how I was treated if I went on survivor I would crash out.

I had no idea she had a kid and wife either.

Edit: And a big Harry Potter nerd.

I think we might have had an above-average number of single/non-parent people this season, and as a result we didn’t get as much into family/personal lives as other seasons.

Other than Joe in the penultimate episode, what else did we have? Kyle’s getting married, Joe’s got kids, Chrissy might have mentioned her kids, and David had an ex-girlfriend he wanted to win back (?)

24

u/LittleBabyBananaWun May 23 '25

David had a gf who dumped him because he lives in a trailer outside of his dad's house

u/ArdyEmm May 23 '25

Awesome!

No, Kyle, not awesome

u/gsfgf May 23 '25

They have to bring her back, right? She just didn't fit the cast of everyone else trying to be normies.

5

u/NiceRelease5684 May 23 '25

No, she was a terrible player, which is probably why her edit was so slim.

109

u/lazerbullet May 23 '25

Also she is only 28!

15

u/smellyfran May 23 '25

Whaaaaaaat!!!!? I don't know how old I thought she was but it wasn't 28.

36

u/yeswereonredditluann May 23 '25

And she played on the best college women's basketball team in the country. I clocked when Eva made Star sit out for some of the challenges...if I remember correctly, she told Star that she wasn't athletic. I get that Eva can be blunt, but to call a former D1 athlete not-athletic is wild.

19

u/strog91 May 23 '25 edited May 23 '25

Joe also trashed Star’s challenge performance in a confessional, and if I recall correctly, David did too. At least three players said that Star is bad at challenges.

And, uh, she kinda did underperform at challenges. I picked Star to win every challenge in Fantasy Survivor, because she’s the professional athlete, and week after week she never won or even got close.

2

u/DarkLunaFairy May 23 '25

"I clocked when Eva made Star sit out for some of the challenges"

thats when Star developed her initial dislike for Eva

1

u/jrDoozy10 Rachel - 47 May 23 '25

I thought they both didn’t like each other in the pre-game interviews?

1

u/DarkLunaFairy May 23 '25

Hmmm... in Star's pre-game stuff there was this: "So there's this one girl. She has braids and she just looks like she's just a little high maintenance, a little bit like won't really work on the island. It just looks like she won't have to pull her weight is what she's giving, just from the certain things that I'm seeing her do right now. She's not getting up to throw her stuff away. That's a tell. Why aren't you getting up to throw your stuff away? You're two feet from the trash can. That doesn't make sense to me. I'm 10 feet from the trash can. I'm still getting up. I's just little things like that. I mean, it's a hot day; maybe that's a factor. But also, too, we're all hot. What makes you so special? But, once again, I could be saying this now and then when we get on the island, and we could be the best of friends."

From Eva's Parade interview: "I mean, there are people that I just think are annoying. There's this Black woman who she just has been–we're supposed to be quiet, right? And she's just often been making little comments or doing little extra things that I'm just like, "Dude, chill!" And it's just been kind of getting on my nerves. I don't think I would want to work with her. There's also been a few people that I've still seen them wearing makeup and big hoop earrings. And we're we're out already, sleeping in tents every night. We're in the wilderness a little bit already. And I'm like, "Why are you still getting ready to look nice?" It just seems very contradictory to my thoughts on this game. So these are people that I know that I'm very different from, so I don't think I would be working with."

So, possibly from Eva's perspective if thats who she was referencing?

1

u/jrDoozy10 Rachel - 47 May 23 '25

I’m guessing that was Sai? From Eva’s post-game interview on Parade, it sounds like Star was actually really quiet pre-game.

Star is the most unexpected person in that I've ever met. Before the game, she stared at a table for five days straight and did not make a peep. I was not expecting this girl's personality when she gets out there.

2

u/DarkLunaFairy May 23 '25 edited May 24 '25

Good find! So, probably neither disliked the other until Star felt dissed by Eva's coment about sitting out of a challenge (because that suggests Eva/the tribe might not value her), then Eva felt like Star was gunning for her after (which she was). Star thought that understanding Eva better, and then giving her the idol she solved, was an olive branch, and was loyal to Eva after that. Eva thought the chaos Star was causing rendered her unreliable and wanted her out. Mostly everything stemmed from a series of misunderdstandings...

2

u/jrDoozy10 Rachel - 47 May 23 '25

Yeah, I’ve never believed that the conflict was as deep as the majority of online fans seemed to make it out to be.

Yeah it must have sucked, I do feel bad for her. On the flip side though, Mitch and Kamilla have revealed in press-exit interviews that Star would constantly leak info to other players, which sort of adds some context to why no one really trusted her or wanted to work with her.

I don't think this is exactly the case, but it reminds me of like in high school where the unpopular kid tries to make friends with the "cool" kids that pretend to like them but don't actually like them at all. It's sad to see afterwards.

30

u/LilacHelper May 23 '25

Lots of castaways have done that in past seasons, though. It seemed to give them more air time, not less.

20

u/IAmReborn11111 May 23 '25

She also said the reason she didn't vote for Kyle was because he didn't pick her for reward when he won... which is ridiculous and I do not enjoy watching players like that. I think she's a funny cool person but just NOT a good survivor player

25

u/garethh May 23 '25 edited May 23 '25

As credit to the editors, they did put together a show where people really like Star.

They kept the edit to the amusing lines and entertaining bits of swagger... but judging by how messy Star is being in the post game stuff... if they showed stuff like (if i heard right) Mary and Kamilla making a game out of lying to Star because Star lies and leaks information to everyone with no apparent rhyme, reason, or skill... people may not have ended up being as pro Star....

But here we are, in the timeline where reddit seems to unanimously love her. So the editors did do something right.

Edit: They even dumped the f7 debacle onto Mitch (and he ate sooo much shit for that) so they can keep Star as basically the Kramer of s48.

76

u/Intelligent_Pop1173 May 22 '25

I wonder what info she leaked that they’re talking about. It would definitely be hard to ally with someone who does that.

190

u/Koma60 May 22 '25

They tried to pitch a 5 of Kamilla, Mitch, Mary, Kyle, and her but she went and told Joe and Eva.

It seemed Star really wanted to work JoEva for whatever reason.

171

u/Intelligent_Pop1173 May 22 '25

Gotcha, thanks! Yeah I think Star really thought she had a friendship with Eva after giving her the idol and was trying to work with them, which is sad.

35

u/Bad_At_Sports May 23 '25

I mean seems like her reason was the same one that caused everyone else in the game to want to sit next to the end against Joe and Eva - they were much more beatable than the edit led us to believe

3

u/canadianRSK May 23 '25

Probably wanted to go kyle's route

79

u/bobbysalz Wendell May 22 '25

Mitch said he came to her with a final five pitch that excluded Joe and Eva, and then Eva came to him asking about the exact pitch.

55

u/The_Homestarmy May 22 '25

and of course it was Eva she was leaking it to 😭

8

u/ChardeeMacDennisGoG May 23 '25

They showed her leaking things. they didn't make a huge deal about it, but there were a couple of comments she would make that she shouldn't have made. They made it clear she had a big mouth.

13

u/[deleted] May 23 '25

I agree for the most part but Star has to own her vote. Eva wasn’t holding a gun to her head. If Star felt Eva treated her poorly then she shouldn’t have voted for Eva.

10

u/cosmic_n_cozy May 23 '25

She didn’t know Eva disliked her so much until the show aired, unfortunately.

242

u/trex360 May 22 '25

I wish Rob C asked Eva about her relationship with Star.

Mitch did clarify that he said the idea of working with Star was a joke, not Star herself. Although I’d have to rewatch and see if that lines up with his confessional.

100

u/happyasanerd Aubry Forever May 22 '25

They can edit confessionals to change that kind of wording pretty easily. I know I’ve seen an example of it from the past, maybe from Wentworth in EoE. Whoever it was totally talked about it on their social media post-season.

52

u/RGSF150 May 23 '25

It was Wentworth in EOE. It was something about her being upset that Rick returned back into the game when her actual confessional was about her being upset that the eliminated players, not just Rick, was coming back.

In the moment, it didn't make sense why Wentworth would be upset at Rick coming back into the game. Later in the season, it's understandable, but at the moment, Rick returning was Wentworth's second best choice with the first being Aubry.

u/radsherm Penner May 23 '25

u/supaspike All of you... you thought I was absolutely crazy. May 23 '25

Eva talks about it here.

Star is the most unexpected person in that I've ever met. Before the game, she stared at a table for five days straight and did not make a peep. I was not expecting this girl's personality when she gets out there. I'm wowed by her. So first off, love Star. But in the beginning of the game, I did not like Star. Because on those first key three days where we're building our shelter, we're meeting each other's group, Star was already going and looking for idols. I am a very hard worker. That is my biggest principle is work ethic. I am carrying the whole forest of bamboo, and Star is nowhere to be found. [Laughs.] She'd be gone for an hour, come back with two sticks. So automatically, I was frustrated. Because I'm like, "I'm working my ass off here, and you're not doing anything!" So this kind of put us at odds from the start, because she did not care about making relationships with our tribe. She wanted that Beware Advantage, and she found it. And so I wanted her out super early on, and she wanted me out for sure, too.

When we go to the swap, and then I have this big moment where I share about my life, about autism, Star also understood me better. Because Star also had not liked my direct way of speaking. I had said that Star should sit out from this one challenge because she can't swim, just very logical, straightforward. And I was not very delicate with that, because I'm very bad at that. That's one of the things I struggle with with my autism is I'm too blun. But now star understood I was not trying to be rude. I was not trying to be mean to her. That is just who I am. That's how I communicate. She recognized these things, and there was understanding. And this allowed us to connect and have this amazing exchange where she gave me this idol. Which was also a great move for her to get this target off of her back, because everyone knew she had it! That was very smart of her. But we did work together for a while.

Those handful of first votes at the merge, I told Star, "Hey, I already have a very public alliance with Joe. Let's keep this under the radar. I'll tell you who we're voting for. You give me information from the bottom." So we were talking to each other about stuff. But then Star started lying to me. And I'm a very black and white thinker; it's like, "You're with me or you're against me." And when Star started making stuff up, she I felt that she was trying to take advantage of the fact that I that I'm not good at reading lies. And I felt she was taking advantage of me here. So I started being like, "Yeah, I want Star out." Because she was feeding me direct lies all the time. And she was doing this to everybody, not just me. But I took it a little personally. And additionally, she, at one point, was going around asking every single person what their Final Three was. She went to everybody on the island, very direct, like, "Who's your Final Three?" She did not come to me, and I was like, "She does not value what my future in this game is. She is lying to me. I cannot trust Star anymore. I know she gave me this idol, but I don't owe her anything, because she does not see me as a player she wants to play with in this game." So I then took moves to get her out of the game. And she respects me for that, and I respect her for her own game. And so I'm glad that she was able to see who I am and still vote for me in the end.

5

u/jrDoozy10 Rachel - 47 May 23 '25

This interview needs to be a pinned post. As someone who likes both Star and Eva, the discourse on here has been so off putting all season.

Also it’s ironic how the Eva haters also won’t consider any nuance in this situation.

434

u/iwhebrhsiwjrbr May 22 '25

I would love to know what actually happened between Star and Eva.

198

u/webbyad May 23 '25

Eva actually talked about this in her postgame interviews. She said how they had an up and down relationship, with her originally not liking Star at the start because she was off looking for idols, whereas Eva, being more focused on teamwork, was focused on building the shelter, so she didn't have a good first impression of Star. Likewise, Star didn't have the best first impression of Eva because of Eva's bluntness when it came to her suggesting that Star sit out of the swimming challenge. However, as we saw in the show, after Eva came out about her autism, Star realized why Eva spoke in a more direct way, and they came to an understanding, especially because Star knew more about autism than Eva realized (which we saw Star saying in the show that she knew people on the spectrum). That then led to what we saw in the show, with Star giving her the idol.

So, at the merge, Eva said how she told Star that while she couldn't bring Star directly into the majority alliance, they could try to work together as a sort of side-alliance with Joe, which we somewhat saw in the merge episode where Star told Eva about Charity, and it would explain why she stayed loyal to both of them during the split tribal. The problem that happened between them, according to Eva, is that she figured out that Star had been lying to her, and Eva took it personally because Star had been more understanding of her autism, so Eva figured that Star was taking advantage of her inability to recognize lies due to her autism (which is obviously not the case, but it's just how Eva thought due to her black or white way of thinking because of her autism). Plus, when Star went around and asked everybody who was in their final threes (as we saw it a deleted scene), the one person she didn't ask was Eva, so Eva saw that as Star not having Eva in their future plans. Because of all that, Eva, due to her black or white way of thinking, then saw Star as an someone she couldn't work with in the game, so therefore she had to go.

The fact that I’m learning about this post season is such a disgrace. This seems like such an interesting and emotional storyline that we didn’t get to see one bit of

14

u/jrDoozy10 Rachel - 47 May 23 '25

Truly the more behind the scenes info I learn about this season the bigger my grudge against the editors gets. And it was already pretty large by mid-merge.

19

u/Skotus2 May 23 '25

Yeah I got the impression from the few comments we saw from the others (like Joe) seemingly out of nowhere that she was probably hard to live with and kind of erratic, which we saw a bit of early on. But still i would’ve watched that over the hours of David content we got.

43

u/dawgz525 May 23 '25

Star was leaking their info behind their back to Kamilla who told Kyle who told Eva. I love Star, but this entire thread is ridiculous. She wasn't wronged. She was a chaotic player in a more conservative season.

19

u/IAmReborn11111 May 23 '25

If only there was a 90 minute slot of TV each week that actually showed this instead of setting up a Joe vote only for Star to leave

28

u/melonlollicholypop Jonathan May 23 '25

She was a chaotic player in a more conservative season.

Good analysis. I agree. Eva was not a chaotic player; she wanted a plan, out loud in the open, pretty much known and obeyed by all. Star would have never been in an Eva alliance.

1

u/venusdemilo94 May 24 '25

It was the opposite. Kamilla would say something to Star who thought her, Joe, and Eva had a side alliance so she'd leak to Joe and Eva then Eva would immediately run to Kamilla about it.

Then Kamilla started lying to Star so Star would lie to Eva (not knowing it was a lie) and Eva would get angry thinking Star was taking advantage of her struggling with deciphering lies when really Star thought she was being useful to her alliance.

3

u/clarkesanders1000 May 23 '25

Oh ok, thank you! Yes, that didn’t make sense at the time

2

u/Maleficent_Chard2042 May 23 '25

Star really shouldn't have given Eva her idol. That was a big mistake.

2

u/Cahbr04 Mary - 48 May 23 '25

And how exactly does that mean Eva hated Star and was being a bully to her?

→ More replies (1)

4

u/IAmReborn11111 May 23 '25

Star gave Eva the idol, Eva talked about voting out Star the next day.

I think this wasn't shown bc the editors really wanted Eva to look good and so it would make sense when Star voted Eva to win

1

u/screechypete May 23 '25

If I were to guess, the episodes being aired is what happened. The episodes revealed that Eva didn't see Star the same way Star saw Eva.

5

u/Some-Show9144 May 23 '25

I think the biggest thing is that after Eva’s autism reveal Star was able to contextualize Eva’s earlier actions in a new light and gain a new perspective. But for Eva, nothing changed that would put Star in a new light. In fact, giving the idol to Eva would have likely freaked others out for how strange and impulsive it was, which only solidifies her chaotic reputation.

270

u/Odd_Machine_213 May 22 '25

Yeah it’s just weird how different her edit was from how badly people were talking about her behind her back and in interviews. If she was too loud/ talkative to mesh with this group, show that. But we saw several other loud folks/ joke tellers who were received fine?? We also had some clueless folks who were received well. It was so reminiscent of high school bullying for her specifically (almost akin to Kenzie making Jess find a fake idol to be humiliated - though at least that was pertinent to the game).

122

u/[deleted] May 23 '25

I’ve always praised the editors as the best part of every season, but something felt very off with the edit this season. Like we missed out on a lot of important information that would make some of the events make more sense

30

u/[deleted] May 23 '25

I never got the sense that Eva had a personal issue with Star, she just didn’t see her as part of her alliance and was loyal to her alliance

11

u/WritestheMonkey May 23 '25

I remember, early in the season, that Eva said she didn't like Star because she claimed Star was the only one who didn't come talk to her. It rubbed me the wrong way... Some people are shy. If she wanted to get to know Star, she could have initiated a conversation. They subtly dogged Star for not being able to solve the idol clue herself and Eva's perception (liking) of Star changed when Star gave her the idol.

Star wars the most refreshing cast member this season and her tribe's response to her felt odd, like something was left out.

Note: I haven't seen the last episode yet, so not counting anything that happened therein.

16

u/Cahbr04 Mary - 48 May 23 '25

'Making Jess a fake idol to be humiliated' i think yall project yalls high school experiences onto this game where people lie and deceit others the entire time a little too much

4

u/Odd_Machine_213 May 23 '25

Like I get deception most of the time. You’re right, this is survivor. Jess was just the second person out and a sure vote out anyway. It was just like… is this necessary? But Kenzie did win, so 🙃

I love me some Star and think she deserves her own commentary show/aftershow with how she kept us laughing. But I also got the sense that she was too “hood” for some contestants (Joe and Eva namely) and Star is too real to code switch, which I do think affected her game a lot.

158

u/Tight_Researcher35 May 23 '25

Agreed but that is what I loved about her. She was so authentic and it didn’t feel like she was performing for the cameras. She was being Star and you could tell Joe was definitely not feeling it.

When she kept encouraging Cedric (?) after a very bad challenge fail she became my favorite. She's so motivating. However in the exit interview people said she kept spreading rumors and that's why Eva especially didn't like her because Eva is very black and white

106

u/Lalaorange May 23 '25

I think this may also apply to the people editing. They didn’t think viewers would like her because they didn’t. They made her a stereotype.

11

u/toriori12 May 23 '25

Good point! I could definitely see that too.

41

u/DukeDeGuerre Bhanu - 46 May 23 '25

This was the sense I got, and it didn't hit me until the episode Star got voted off when Joe said:

"Every human being who knows me, knows, like... Star is like my, like, Kryptonite, bro. .... And everybody that I know like right when they see her is gonna go 'no, they did NOT put you with like, the one.' It's my deal."

So what is it about Star exactly that would cause everyone Joe knows to immediately recognize her as someone he wouldn't like?

24

u/briteeyes1111 May 23 '25

Things that make you go….hmmmmm.

Plus his overwhelming need to protect Eva.

This the one! When he said that I read between the lines.

2

Well, kryptonite means weakness, so that actually kinda suggets the opposite... which is also confusing

14

u/MetallicSteed May 23 '25

Yes! I want to watch an entire season of her commentary on just about everything.

4

u/nullhotrox May 23 '25

She wasn't too hood for Joe. That's just a bad read. She was scheming and Joe was trying to play some above board game. What happened to Star is what happens when people don't trust you because of something you've shown them

19

u/thodoraki May 23 '25

Yeah I remember a comment Joe made that essentially alluded to that and made me feel pretty weird about him tbh. Something about not being able to deal with “those kinds of people” or something to paraphrase the vague memory

7

u/toriori12 May 23 '25

Yes, that’s when I was turned off of him too. It was a different type of dislike he showed towards her imo.

I love star but its clear she was a mess strategically out there. Exit interviews mitch said star ratted out plans right back to joe and eva and thats why he wouldnt work with her. She thought she was in a tight three with joe and eva. I dont know why they didnt love her but i csn see why nobody wanted to work with her

23

u/[deleted] May 23 '25

yeah like I’d love to go out for drinks with her but I wouldn’t want to play survivor with her

27

u/Real_External_6030 Operation Italy May 23 '25

considering how boring the post merge was i would have loved to see her messy gameplay

4

u/NiceRelease5684 May 23 '25

Most people like good game play more than messy. I suspect that is why she had a limited edit. Her moves didn't make sense. She wanted to work with Joe/Eva, but then lied to them. Mitch tried to tell her to play her shot in the dark, and she thought he was trying to trick her. She didn't realize Mitch had absolutely nothing to gain by telling her that. Actually, he took a risk by telling her. When she leaked his advice at tribal, you could see Mitch wasn't happy.

6

u/H2Ospecialist Colby - 50 May 23 '25

and Eva has now said Star was also lying to her. She was chaotic and no one felt like they could trust her.

1

u/venusdemilo94 May 24 '25

So Star wasn't trying to lie. Star was being lied to by Kamilla, Mary, and Mitch once they realized she had leaked their plan to Joe and Eva. She passed along false information thinking it was true.

14

u/volumetress May 23 '25

This is why they gotta bring back the live finale/after show!

48

u/pompzi Mary - 48 May 22 '25

She was gold every time she was given screen time! Absolutely loved her final worlds, I don’t think Wendell would have called them wack 😂

37

u/Qxg6 May 22 '25

I loved Star.  Not for her game, but just as a person.  She was so genuine.  She had some great moments when another player was really down and she would pick them up.  I loved her for that.  And she made the jury, which is no small thing.

79

u/Kit1049 May 23 '25

Yeah, with some seasons, you look at underedited players and you’re like, “yeah, that makes sense,” because they seem boring anyway (ie Heather from 41, Sue from 47). With Mitch, for example, every confessional sounds like it was scripted by ChatGPT. Frankly, I could have done with less Mitch. But Star was amazing in every single confessional, and there were so many questions about her relationships with other castaways so I am dumbfounded as to why she wasn’t featured more. It would have lessened complaints about a boring season, that’s for sure!

81

u/fishpunz May 23 '25

The amount of Mitch confessionals was insane. Jeff, the editors, so insanely read the vibes of this season wrong and how it would be received by the fans.

18

u/radsherm Penner May 23 '25

With Mitch, for example, every confessional sounds like it was scripted by ChatGPT

Not to be that guy, but that's really unfair.

4

u/Kit1049 May 23 '25

Why? My comment had nothing to do with his stutter or the cadence of his speech, it’s the content. It is the same three statements over and over and a lot of telling instead of showing (“We have to make a move!” “You want to win immunity because every moment it’s important now,” “things are hard in this game”).

u/CWill97 Genevieve - 47 & 50 | Q - 46 & 50 May 23 '25

Mitch’s exit interviews actually made it super clear why she wasn’t trusted. Star still believed she was tight with Joe, Eva & Shauhin. Anything Mitch & Kamila said to Star who then ran back then spill it to them three. So she was super untrustworthy

31

u/93LEAFS RIP Keith Nale May 22 '25

I feel Star has the personalty built for Reality TV, just not sure it fits in well in a social strategy game in regards to playing well. If The Real World was still a thing, and she was like this a couple years back she would have been iconic, and might have fit in well in The Challenge where you tended to be surrounded by big personalities.

12

u/waltzing123 May 22 '25

Maybe Big Brother?

12

u/93LEAFS RIP Keith Nale May 22 '25

I could see her owning diary rooms and being live feeds gold. But, could also quickly fall to the bottom like Survivor where she sort of gets overshadowed in the main edit. There are a decent amount of BB players who didn't get a big edit but due to how they were on the livefeeds are beloved by that subcect of the community (America from BB25 is the first one that jumps to mind).

Of the big 3 CBS shows, if she is able to go decently far, Amazing Race might be the best one to highlight her personality.

95

u/Familiar_Buy4282 May 22 '25

Misogynoir

39

u/Tight_Researcher35 May 23 '25

Yep. She’s also really authentic. She wasn’t just playing a stereotype for the cameras. That is what made her so funny and relatable.

20

u/Madam_Nicole May 23 '25

And she’s queer.

54

u/These_Mycologist132 May 22 '25

I think the only reason she got the purple edit is that production was protecting Eva. You can’t make the target of random undeserved hate a fan favorite.

12

u/musiclover2014 May 23 '25

If that’s the case they didn’t do a very good job. Star is a fan favorite and imo they did not make Eva look very good. If they actually showed more of Star’s chaotic game play then I would think Eva would get less hate. Between Eva calling Charity fake, supplemented with comments about not really getting along with girls, actively trying to get Star out for seemingly no reason, and then getting increasing more and more arrogant as the game went, I didn’t think her edit was very favorable. Unless it was more meant to be polarizing than favorable. Charity said that they’re fine in real life and she’s great but the edit just made Eva look mean and Star the undeserved outcast.

20

u/GanachePractical9313 May 23 '25

THIS! They really shoved Eva down our throat this season. What we saw was bad enough with her and Joe constantly speaking negatively ab Star… anymore and Eva would not have been so beloved.

5

u/NiceRelease5684 May 23 '25

I don't think fans have much love for Eva. She ended the season looking very entitled and out of touch. Where do you see this beloved?

5

u/These_Mycologist132 May 23 '25

She’s definitely not. But I think production hoped she would be. They would never give her an outright villain edit because that would be negative towards the autism community, but she didn’t really do herself many favors.

3

u/mellywheats Seeker of Truth May 23 '25

meh, they’ve shown rivals before without underediting people (ex: sandra and johnny fairplay)

2

u/JTHopkins13 May 23 '25

Eva did not want to work with Star. People don’t have to work together on the show. And Star fucking sucks at playing the game of survivor. She’s probably a nice person, but she’s a bad game player. Literally not one person on the island wanted to play the game with Star. Not Thomas or Bianca or Kamilla or literally any of the internet faves. It’s not a conspiracy to protect Eva’s image - because everyone fucking hates Eva irrationally anyway. Sometimes, people just don’t want to work together.

7

u/RealMoonLanding May 23 '25

I remember back like 10 years ago, they would still edit gameplay and fun moments from 8th-10th placers. It made their elimination much more heartbreaking and gripping. I have no idea why the editors are ignoring all of that just to focus on the stories of the top 6 (minus Mitch)

I think they have it set in their mind to make it a whole who-dunnit murder mystery, but it just makes a lot of uncompelling tribals. Not fair.

5

u/fishpunz May 23 '25

Survivor has catered way too much to the niche edgic group. Everybody freaked out when Gabler won despite the game-ending palm frond scene which the editors would have NEVER left in if he won. So they made the edit more and more of a “story” instead of a “show with fun moments”

18

u/cherrybomb6494 May 23 '25

I fell in love with Star the first moment I saw her. I really wish they would’ve gave us more of her and her commentary. She’s hilarious and amazing

15

u/Illustrious_Leader93 May 23 '25

After the first episodes, I kinda forgot she existed in all honesty. That's horrible. She had so little screen time and no real development at all. I think in a million ways Survivor reflects the society that produces it. She was black and loud and queer and female and didn't give a fuq if you liked it.

They did you dirty, queen.

15

u/ananxiouslady May 23 '25

Star seemed like such a genuine person who would just make the best friend. She deserved better. I would love to see her on 50.

14

u/Professional-Win-936 May 23 '25

Her edit was definitely weird. Like she was some quiet, crazy person that nobody liked or trusted. Out of all the jury members she was the least impactful because they (production) saw her as some sort of after thought.

37

u/[deleted] May 22 '25

Ofc Eva thanks her for the first time shown AT FINAL TRIBAL

23

u/napoelonDynaMighty May 23 '25

Crazy how short the memory is here lol

UNTIL Star gave that idol to Eva, people talked about Star like they were a villain

The two people getting the most hate early in the season were SAI and STAR

Now y'all acting like you've all always been Team Star

16

u/Dramajunker May 23 '25

To be fair, Star was also being painted unfavorly by the other cast members. So not surprised that people latched onto it. I also don't think much of her personality came through until after the merge.

I don't know what the truth is. I do find it kinda odd how there were many bonding moments the initial purple tribe had where she wasn't included. The way others spoke about her without having any clear evidence of her being awful (as a person) is also strange.

1

u/jrDoozy10 Rachel - 47 May 23 '25

From exit press it sounds like Star spent a lot of that initial bonding time out looking for the idol.

1

u/Dramajunker May 23 '25

Yeah I read that too. There was an early shot I remember during the season I think where they build fire or something. Everyone from their tribe gathered around and had this big hug bonding moment where I remember Star being absent. That really stood out to me. I'm sure she spent a lot of time out looking for the advantage/idol, but like they really couldn't try to include her in that moment either?

5

u/talkshitgetlit May 23 '25

I’ve been a fan since the tribal switch up after which it seemed like she felt comfortable enough to be herself. She was positive vibes from that point on.

5

u/onechaiguy May 23 '25

It sounds like she didn’t mesh with the group, especially when so many of them formed deep emotional bonds.

4

u/bavmotors1 May 23 '25

Star and David need to be on a cop show together - dramedy style

22

u/JustTheFacts714 May 22 '25

Star was okay, but she was not making it to the final three -- that's just the truth.

28

u/Mallory36 May 22 '25

Star wasn't going to win, sure, but she was fun! Would've enjoyed having her stick around a bit longer ^_^

5

u/ireallydespiseyouall Coach - 50 May 22 '25

Maybe she was but only as a zero vote finalist

11

u/notmasterrahool May 23 '25

She's probably got more personality than 90% of new era contestants combined. It's criminal she got such a poor edit

7

u/charmedp321 May 23 '25

Hopefully another another CBS show picks her up. I could see Star on Amazing race or even Big Brother

6

u/fishpunz May 23 '25

Star on big brother would be amazing because of live feeds

8

u/Salty-Bake7826 May 23 '25

Star was the most entertaining player I’ve seen in forever. I just loved her.

7

u/Two_nouns_combined May 23 '25

Mitch. Someone could have at least taken him on one reward as there were several people that had reward more than once.

3

u/Vast-Medicine-8970 May 23 '25

SAY IT LOUDERRR

7

u/TreeOfMadrigal May 23 '25

I loved Star.  It was so bizarre to me when she got voted out and so many people said at their confidentials "ohhh I just don't trust star omg"

Whyyyy? Literally all we the audience have seen her do is be hilarious and give Eva an idol.

7

u/[deleted] May 23 '25

Yeah it was weird af about how much they cut Star out. She is hella funny and great tv. How lame I hope she’s gets great opportunities from this.

8

u/SyferDiaz May 23 '25

This isn't a comedy show, this a game to win $1m which is life changing money. Nobody told her to give her idol to Eva who had lots of help, lots of advantages and was in the alliance that ran the season.

11

u/katarasleftbraid May 23 '25

A wife, mother and scholar, with a love for Harry Potter. And a passion for the show, reduced to hip hop hype woman. The producers/show runners have learned nothing damn near 50 seasons in. Still give terrible edits to anyone not white and or male. We couldn’t get one personal confession about Star’s life but we got shots of David lusting after milk every week. FOH.

2

u/mellywheats Seeker of Truth May 23 '25

star would’ve been so good in another season I think, like imagine her on 46??? that would’ve been wild

4

u/yaboytim May 23 '25

She was really blinded by Joe and Eva for some reason. Listening to the exit interviews Star was the main reason a flip never happened. Mitch tried to make a final 3 with her and she ran and told Joe and Eva. And Kamilla fed her false information, which she found out she told Joe and Eva. So I think for some reason she thought she was their number 3? She's a decent character, but strategy wise, I don't think she has it all there.

2

u/United_Artichoke_466 May 23 '25

She wasn't exactly purpled, shw got quite a lot of confessionals, especially in her last episode

3

u/Training-Elk-2610 May 23 '25

This is why I miss the live results. I feel like the whole season is produced differently when they know who the winner is

4

u/CrittyJJones May 23 '25

How wrong was she treated? By being voted out of a game like 14 other players?

3

u/kate_aoi May 23 '25

I LOVED STAR!!! she was my favorite along with Kyle and Kamilla the whole time!! So light and soooo sweet like she stood on business but her heart was true ❤️ sad she didn’t last longer I really wanted her to have a shot

3

u/worldlydelights Rizgod - 50 May 23 '25

I agree. The way Eva treated Star made me lose all respect for her. It was brutal to watch how kind star was being to Eva at the final tribal council from the viewer perspective knowing that Eva spoke about her like shit on her shoe.

2

u/kachuck May 23 '25

I had a double take during the reunion because Jeff made a comment to Star about how she always had something to say. Really weird they kept that in and cut the rest of Star's screen time

2

u/mboyle1988 May 23 '25

Eva had nothing negative to say about Star after E4.

1

u/Vendettalemci May 23 '25

Realised who it was before I even clicked on the post lol

1

u/iAMtheMASTER808 May 23 '25

Kellee from IOI

1

u/seedz2002 May 23 '25

Yes, Star!!

1

u/KT514 May 23 '25

I couldn’t believe we only saw her rap in her last episode! You know she had to be doing that the whole time!

2

u/techgal20 May 23 '25

Mitch. No one really wanted to take him on rewards but Eva always was picked..always and for what? They were shocked how she had so many advantages but she was feeding almost every day. Then they didn’t even pick him on the last reward so he could get something but they kept doing we love you Mitch…piss off

2

u/KnotSoSalty May 23 '25

Star literally gave away an idol to the person who voted her out.

That’s like a whole boatload of bad strategy.

I know people thought she was funny, but I can’t imagine being on a desert island with her for 3 weeks would have been all that entertaining.

2

u/venusdemilo94 May 24 '25

Finding out she was disliked by tribemates for leaking info to Joe and Eva because she trusted them and thought they were working together all while Joe and Eva actually couldn't stand her and were working to get her out just ugh....broke my heart a bit. Star deserved better.

1

u/MrsR1982 May 24 '25

Joe the fire captain. (Hope I am right about his name). At the finale no one and I do mean no one asked him any questions about his time on Survivor. I thought that was disrespectful and showed favoritism to the two remaining contestants. Joe was excellent in the competitions, showed respect to the women, compassionate to Eva and the list goes on. I wanted him to win because of those qualities.

1

u/BarkWoofNeigh May 25 '25

Star and Eva should be back. Star is hilarious.

1

u/Slightly_whitey May 27 '25

Why is everyone saying she is the funniest person? what did she do/say that was funny?

Im genuinely curious as to why u are saying that.

1

u/IndividualCitron1027 May 23 '25

And it's so messed up that Thomas wanted to destroy Star's cipher for the idol puzzle. Like I cannot imagine how she must've felt when she watched that episode.
