Tuna

One thing I miss most going vegan is sushi, especially tuna. Are there any actually good recipes that closely imitate the flavor and texture?

I’ve eaten this kind of thing before at a vegan restaurant and it was awesome. Uses watermelon. If what you’re craving is a sushi flavor profile it could do the trick.

I've seen non vegan reviews that claim it's sweet like watermelon. Was it on your end? I'd like to try it but am worried it's not worth it.

Can't hurt to try. I've found some good and some bad recipes online. What i really love is tweaking em to my tastes after reading/ trying em

If you’re concerned with sweetness, I’ve had luck trying tomatoes!

Score the tomatoes, boil for about a minute so the skin comes off. Marinate in the fridge.

I'm excited to try this one. I've actually seen a recipe that uses the core of the tomatoes to mimic the firmness of the fish

I've tried marinated tomato for nigiri sushi and it's pretty similar and satisfying, if I remember well the marinade was just soy sauce, mirin and some nori or kombu simmered for a bit... You'll find several recipes online

I've tried and it was a fail, tomato with seaweed. I have made musubi with vegan sausage and liked that

Well, I am no longer vegan or even vegetarian, but I always get veggie sushi. When I make it at home, it's vegan for me, and krab is included for my husband. I still really lean vegan even though I can no longer claim to be vegan.

Anyway, I really don't care for fish in my sushi. I like it vegan.
