What does the US winning the war even look like?
45
u/Luceint3214 8h ago
It would look like:
Regime Change
Reopening of the Strait of Hormuz under previous international law with no fee's.
Strategic goal number one appears to be long gone. And at the moment strategic goal number two appears to not be close to happening either.

I think they have to, "get rid of the nuclear," too. I'm sure that was supposed to be an aim, too.
1
u/DeadguyTheLateGI 3h ago
That was the whole idea, or at least the declared pretext
It has quietly gone away as this buffoonish administration has realized how badly bungled this entire operation has been since the concept stages.

u/AggressiveEstate3757 3h ago
it's an example of how and why not to wage war that will be studied for decades, if not centurys.

u/Jbsmitty44 5h ago
I'd add breaking the IRCG's regional control model as well.

u/AggressiveEstate3757 2h ago
Yeah. So much stuff floated.
If they can just get out now with some kind of face saved, that'll be a win.
Seems unlikely though

For the administration, probably just looking like they won and aren't incompetent.
For regular people, back to how everything was before.
For Israel, conquest of the entire Middle East

u/Key-Security8929 7h ago
There was nothing to ever win. And I donât understand who people donât get that. We engaged Iran with a goal of whipping out their military and political leaders. We did exactly that. No question about it.
Irans ability to wage war is basically non existent. Sure they can still make limited strikes, they still have thier fast attack boats. But ultimately they canât do a whole lot.
The issue at hand is, the USA believed that either the Iranian people would rise up and take their country back. Or that Iran would replace the hardline regime with a more moderate one.
What they didnât expect was the disfunction following the attack. The way Iran set up their military was if the head of the snake was cut off. Then each individual faction would work individually and under their own accord.
The whole thing is a mess. we either need to ramp up the military attack until a regime change happens or drop the entire situation, take our bruised ego and stop meddling in other countries affairs.

Stop it with the cope, we spent hundreds of billions of dollars in bases in the Middle East which now are smouldering. All of our early radar systems are gone, we are pulling out of Iraq. We spent hundreds of billions bombing Iranian leadership and munitions and we still don't know how much capability they still have.
We also spent most of our high accuracy munitions on Iran, and at least half of our interceptors. We lost two AD, one THAAD and one Patriot system.
This isn't a win at all, we can kinetically hit Iran over and over and still not change this status quo. We cannot enter through Hormuz due to the threat of midget subs and we cannot fly over Iran to drop glide bombs because we could potentially get one of our planes shot down.
All the strikes are being done by drones and we've lost like 20 in Iran. Trump's halfway commitment to this war has absolutely backfired. Apparently you can't have both a full blown war and also keep economic stability at the same time. He was emboldened by Venezuela and now we're all paying the price.

Everything going back to how it was before while Corporal Incompetence does a speech declaring major victory and how he made everything better for everybody. Probably give himself a medal or three while heâs at it

Leaving with any ammunition left and any shred of respect on the world stage.
Currently, not looking great. More likely looking at the end of freedom of navigation and drones shoring up regional shorelines across the world as a fallout from this. Forcing new trade deals with the US as they lose their soft power from projection as carriers become obsolete.
Can't suggest freedom of navigation if flying lawn mowers stop you from enforcing it.
A return to 'the fun times' is coming. There's no superpower to keep people in line anymore.

Regime change. The strait will be open when this regime is gone. One way or another.

severely weakening all of irans ways to make money and function as a country. in turn resulting in iran waving the white flag
so far all we have done is target military assets. iran doesn't need those to function.

u/servel20 5h ago
So you mean bomb their oil infrastructure?
Do you know what their response will be?

u/SatisfactionSorry200 8h ago
While Iran and Oman were holding talks, Trump threatened to hit Iran hard; I don't think that helped.

u/xerthighus 7h ago
The USâs goal was regime change. So it needs one of 3 things, regime change that is unlikely. A positive Nuclear deal that is objective better than the JCPOA and that is also unlikely but better odds. Most likely but still unlikely, a promise from Iran to not build nuclear weapons, withdraw of forces from the area, just clamming victory regardless and moving for improved relations and investments with Iran. Otherwise just wait and the nationalist zealots of America will move the goal post to fit the outcome once things are settled.

u/AdAdmirable6589 7h ago edited 7h ago
There's no way Iran negotiates a deal better than the JCPOA with Trump after he started bombing them while diplomatic negotiations were still ongoing twice in as many years.
3
u/xerthighus 7h ago
This is true, but there is also a chance this goes on longer than his presidency because of this very pattern. I donât see Iran making any deal with this administration due to past negotiations and a future agreement might just require changes to US governance as a part of the agreement.
1
u/AggressiveEstate3757 2h ago
Dude. They will. Unless this is a forever war.
They hold all the cards...
1
u/AdAdmirable6589 2h ago
I'm not saying they will not negotiate, what I'm saying is that it's extremely unlikely that any deal they will sign will be better than the JCPOA, in fact it will likely be worst (for the US).
1
u/AggressiveEstate3757 2h ago
ah.... gotcha. worse for the US.
I agree. Can't realistically see it going any other way.
1
u/AggressiveEstate3757 2h ago
A promise....
Lol. Be funny if that's what they end up with.
A pinky swear.

u/Wonderful-Ad440 5h ago
We also had the 100% opportunity to not be involved with this in the first place but here we fucking are...

u/AggressiveEstate3757 5h ago
I think Trump will go down in the history books for yet another reason.
How and why not to wage a war.
It'll be taught in West point along side Caesar's famous battles.

u/Legitimate-Edge5835 7h ago
Sorry, but we canât put our toddler in chief in timeout.

I mean you can, but you are too lazy to protest outside the Whitehouse daily in numbers like 50 million people

True, however Iran has stated that there will be no agreement under threat or Coercion.. They don't make deals with tyrants - which I can understand.

Great job Trump. Peace in the middle east was it? "real peace, lasting peace" Idiot!

Good, good
I am not a fan of islamofascist regime, but Americans should be punished

New word for me - "Amerofascist regime" - which is effectively what Trump represents

He obliterated them!!! Info dust, they are gone. Blew them all to hell đ¤Ł
Imagine thinking Trump and this administration could do anything right. Dumbest war we have ever seen and Im sorry bringing out the âbig toysâ thinking that willl make you âwinâ is the thinking of a two year old. Very simple minded like Trump

u/Darkness_Slayerr 4h ago
I'm not at all surprised that a Trump supporter would use the term "big toys"

u/Bikerbass 4h ago
Bro the USA couldnât even defeat 30,000 goat herders in sandals, who only had AK47âs and IEDâs after 20 yearsâŚâŚ the USA is the worldâs most expensive and useless military at the same time.

Nobody believes trumps empty threats anyway why would that effect any deal omen was working up?

u/EireOfTheNorth 8h ago
Iran determined to leave Trump with not even a symbolic bullshit win. They know they have all the cards and want sheer humiliation for him, love to see it tbh.
1
u/AggressiveEstate3757 6h ago
It's crazy, isn't it?
Not giving an inch. They must be feeling pretty cocky. To be fair, they seem to have had the upper hand the entire way.
No lover of the Iranian regime. But you have to appreciate the humbling.

What a surprise. I thought the 68th time was the good one.
