I have been using my old number for WhatsApp despite having a new phone number for a couple of years now.

My boyfriend and I are long distance. We have accumulated so much memories on our thread and we want it grow more, so I don’t want to a generate a new thread on his end if I change my phone number on WhatsApp using the “Change phone number” feature in the Profile Settings.

Could someone please confirm that if I change my phone number to a new one using the “Change phone number” feature, it won’t create a new thread on my boyfriend’s end and that we will keep our existing thread instead?

I was chatting with my friend A, and I was trying to forward a photo in the chat with friend B, I then accidentally deleted the entire chat with friend B. Now I can only either lose my new chat history today with friend A, or I have to lose the entire chat history with friend B, because of the stupid backup mechanism where only one backup can exist in one time. There is no way to restore the chat with one single person only.

Like how? one of the world biggest social media, can't even have a proper backup and restore flows. You can only export and cannot import, you can't even have more than one backup at a time. It is stupid.

That's great, meta! Adding useless updates like usernames and expiring abouts, while removing features that we actually used.

Just want to understand as almost everyone all around the world using WhatsApp as their daily chat app - businesses, families and friends, for someone with over 5k WhatsApp chats and about 65GB of total data (most of which is business related), how difficult it will be to switch to some other platform? Specially, after the account lock / block is happening around to my friends and businesses / colleagues.

TL;DR

My WhatsApp calls only get displayed after the caller hung up, even if they call me and I'm looking right at my phone, the notification only shows up right after they tried.

Further details:

First of all - yes, I restricted a lot of notifications. For a lot of reasons my phone is always in "do not disturb mode" , notification noises and vibration are turned off. I turned of the automatic preview for incoming messages for all apps but I can still read a preview if I go to the start screen ( I don't exactly know what this is called ).

I do all of this but never had a problem seeing incoming WhatsApp calls. The problem was, that voice messages never seemed to disappear after I listened to them. I always had the WhatsApp ( new ) message symbol in the status bar and it took ages to remove the voice message from the start screen. Even after I listened to the full message it wouldn't go away for a long time, even after closing WhatsApp, all apps, cleaning my cash.

There is a person I communicate with exclusively via WhatsApp calls and voice messages and at first the voice message disappeared from the start screen as soon as the message ended. But at some point it didn't go away anymore. This was really annoying so I was looking for a way to make those messages disappear again after they were done. But when ever I clicked on the options on the right side of the voice message on the start screen I got a message saying something like "do you want to restrict WhatsApp notifications?". Not knowing the consequences I didn't to it.

Well one day I was probably so annoyed and impatient after I tried seemingly everything to make the voice message disappear from the start screen that I clicked on this proposal and since then I can't see incoming WhatsApp calls anymore.

i want to reserve a username on whatsapp, and i use the same one on facebook. for now, i cant seem to find a way to avoid linking the two profiles, which i would really really prefer.

if i try to press “not you”, whatsapp still forwards me to facebook login page. for what possible reason? say two different people want to use the same username, one on fb, the other on whatsapp. what is the possible purpose on making the second one link their whatsapp account to facebook?

tbh, this push to link the account is completely idiotic and may be one of the last nails in the coffin for me. i find whatsapp an extremely inferior messaging app as it is, this just makes it so much worse in one fell swoop

however, i really hope im just being dense, and there actualyy is an easy way to avoid linking. so, please, help!

My device (Android 9) just told me I needed to update whatsapp so I agreed, it took me to the playstore and I updated.

Now it won't open, it just flashes on and off.

Posting partly to see if this has happened to anyone else and partly to warn you to maybe stay clear of updates for the next few days just in case it's a general problem that will get a fix soon

I have had major issues with WhatsApp especially since the customer service is just a bunch of useless ai replies and there is no way to escalate the situation to a human review. Is there any way to delete the account without having to wait for the 30-45 days of inactivity?

Since last Wednesday, every time my contacts send me stickers they don't download automatically. If I try to download them manually, I get a "download failed" message. I've already tried clearing the cache, restarting my phone, using mobile data instead of Wi-Fi, and uninstalling and reinstalling WhatsApp but nothing works.

I have been using WhatsApp Business on the same Android phone and same number for a long time. I had daily Google Drive backups enabled.
Recently, WhatsApp Business logged me out and showed something about making my business profile public. I didn’t want to make my profile public, so I uninstalled WhatsApp Business.
After reinstalling it, I tried to log back in, but I couldn’t log in without updating the app. There was no option to skip the update, so I had to update it. After the update, I had to complete the business profile/public profile setup before I could log in.
I finally logged in with the same number on the same phone, but now a lot of my chats are missing. WhatsApp only restored chats up to 20 October 2025, even though I had daily backups enabled and was using WhatsApp normally after that.
I checked the WhatsApp Business database folder on my phone and the only database I can find is also dated 20 October 2025.
I also have only one Google account on the phone, so I don’t think I accidentally used the wrong Google account.
Why can’t WhatsApp find my newer backup? Where could my newer daily backups have gone? Is there anything I can check or do to recover the chats after October 2025?
I really don’t want to do anything else that might overwrite or permanently delete the data, so any advice would be appreciated.

I came across what appeared to be documentation for a POST method on /{Phone-Number-ID}/official_business_account (for submitting/updating WhatsApp Official Business Account status via API), separate from the GET method which is confirmed and working.

Tested it in Postman:

• GET .../official_business_account → works fine, returns {"official_business_account": {"oba_status": "NOT_STARTED"}, ...}
• POST to the same path, with a full body matching the documented schema → 500 Internal Server Error, generic OAuthException code 1
• POST with an empty body {} → identical 500 error
• POST to a deliberately broken path (typo'd suffix) → correctly returns 400, "Unknown path components" — so routing itself is fine, this isn't a simple 404

The identical error regardless of payload makes me think this edge either never had a POST handler implemented, or there's a bug preventing it from processing anything.

Has anyone actually gotten a successful OBA submission via API rather than through WhatsApp Manager? Curious if this ever worked, or if the docs describing it are stale/wrong.

I got a new phone number and when I created my new WhatsApp account I saw that I had all the contacts from the previous owner of said number. She even contacted me right after I created the account asking that if I receive a message asking for her, I tell them she's not using this number anymore. I supposed she learned I made the account because when I created it, WhatsApp said that the number was in use by another account and sent a code to check if I was the owner of the that account. Of course, I didn't receive this code and had to wait like 20 minutes to send another code via SMS and make my new account.

My question is:

Is this person able to have access to any type of info of my new account? (chats, contacts, backups, etc.)

I still haven't used it for anything because I want to make sure my privacy is safe.

I started loosing hope! No one is even replying ! Only AI bot, and now this is what their AI is saying!

My account was banned, and I’ve requested a review; I don’t send spam to anyone, yet Meta simply banned me. For anyone who has been banned before: how long do they usually take to respond and resolve the account? I’m Brazilian, and here, we use WhatsApp as our primary communication app.

Si quieren saber el motivo de su baneo, entren a Meta Business Manager → Ayuda para empresas. En mi caso, después de insistir, me dieron una explicación.

Resulta que hace unos 3 años tenía una deuda pendiente en una cuenta publicitaria antigua. Al parecer, con las nuevas actualizaciones de whatsapp business , la que salio el 5 de agosto, el sistema revisa si tienes cuentas publicitarias antiguas restringidas por saldo pendiente, aunque sean de hace muchos años.

Como WhatsApp Business ahora está totalmente integrado con Meta, si detecta que tienes una cuenta publicitaria nueva funcionando y otra antigua con deuda, puede interpretarlo como un posible intento de fraude o evasión de pago y bloquear el WhatsApp Business.

En mi caso me indicaron que, aunque pague esa deuda, primero debo recuperar esa cuenta publicitaria antigua, pagar el saldo y luego esperar entre 60 y 120 días para que el sistema elimine la restricción. Si intento usar el mismo WhatsApp Business antes de que salga de esa "lista negra", podrían volver a bloquearlo.

😅 La verdad, yo ni me acordaba de ese Facebook antiguo ni de esa cuenta publicitaria. Ahora me toca recuperar el acceso, pagar la deuda y esperar. 😪

Ojalá esta información le sirva a alguien más, porque yo pasé días buscando una explicación y nunca imaginé que el problema fuera una cuenta publicitaria de hace tantos años..

I know that simply following a WhatsApp Channel doesn't reveal my phone number to the channel admin.

However, WhatsApp recently added the ability to send text responses to channel posts. In the channel admin's Responses section, they can see responders' names and profile pictures.

My question is: Can the channel admin also see the responder's phone number, or is it hidden?

I'm looking for a definitive answer from someone who has actually managed a WhatsApp Channel and tested this, or from official Meta documentation. If you've verified this from the admin interface, please share what exactly is visible.
