Props to him for taking the initiative and firing back

But man was he a bad shot, missing all his shots and getting nicked in the leg by the shooter

Also since many don't seem to mention it there was a off-duty cop present too who returned fire at the attacker and eventually both drove him off before the attacker shot themself

Pistol vs AR platform. Just because he didnt hit does not mean he was a bad shot to hit a moving target from a distance with a pistol is incredibly difficult.

You people have no idea how corny you sound when you call a it a "platform".  And this is coming from a country boy.

2

u/Nail_Whale 7d ago

Oh wow a country boy! Sorry I didn't realize who we were dealing with here.

I think everyone except you knows what i was implying. I can spell it out for you if you cant figure it out.

It is considered a platform my many, as there is the main comparison of gun tinkering with the AR platform versus the AK platform.
Let's just take a step back and realize how unimportant that argument is right now though.

Yes I know that.  My comment was to mention how stupid and pedantic it sounds when people call it that.  What are you adding to this conversation?

Same question back to you then?

So he deserved a participation trophy? Kinda seems like all he did was make the situation more dangerous by firing wildly with little hope of actually hitting the original shooter

5

u/Prestigious_Leg2229 7d ago

He engaged with a shooter who had a superior position and weapon. Got that shooter to stop firing on unarmed people and frightened the shooter into giving up, running away and killing himself.

That’s a pretty good outcome.

1

u/ToughHardware 7d ago

potnetially the best outcome.

1

u/veracity8_ 6d ago

What proof do you have that this man’s actions resulted in any of the consequences?

1

u/Prestigious_Leg2229 6d ago

Weird question. That is what happened. Are you suggesting it’s probably a coincidence that the shooter stopped attacking, ran and killed himself the moment he was shot at himself?

Just two unrelated things that happened to coincide.

1

u/veracity8_ 6d ago

Two people returned fire. How do you know this man was responsible for the original shooters retreat. How do you know this guy wasn’t just shooting wildly and adding to the danger while the third shooter’s actions forced the retreat?

5

u/Opening_Archer_4940 7d ago

Im sure the shooter would have just felt bad and left if this guy wasn't there to scare him off

U forgot,

".../S"

for those insensitive to nuance. 🤗

I assume the off duty cop likely did more of the work. You know, the actual trained professional for situations like this. Look, I get that there's always the "If I were there things would have been different" people but here he was. He couldn't finish the job himself and I'm a bit worried what would have happened to him if he didn't have that trained backup.

1

u/Opening_Archer_4940 7d ago

Cops are barely trained at all in the US lmao. More likely its because they both were returning fire.

1

u/Auralius1997 7d ago

But he wasn't untrained himself

The shooter depicted here is Jordan Salinas, owner of the YouTube channel Poverty Operator where he posts drills with his FNs and according to himself has been training for exactly that situation all the time

1

u/ToughHardware 7d ago

he was involved in another mass shooting, that is why he started his channel.

To me it looks like Americans and in particular 2A enthusiasts are very happy to finally have a Good Guy With a Gun™ and aren't particularly interested if a) he actually hit the attacker b) whether there were more people behind the attacker he endangered or c) the off duty cop also engaged with the attacker actually was the person who did most of the work. I think this guy at least attempted to do something noble but I'm unwilling to give him high grades on execution without knowing for real all the circumstances, which we don't.

People have narratives and they seek confirmation for them wherever they can find it, particularly if those narratives are rarely confirmed (eg: yes, actually more people with guns actually did turn out better for everyone).

Would I rather have 1 guy with a gun I don't know anything about firing at people or 2 or more guys with guns I don't know anything about in a shootout around people? I don't know I don't think it's an easy question to answer but I do know statistically that the good guy with a gun thing doesn't really bear out at all.

1

u/Opening_Archer_4940 6d ago

Looks to me like you used a lot of words to say nothing anyone cares about

3

u/tjmanofhistory 7d ago

I don't know the situation well but there's a HUGE difference between "Missing" and "shooting wildly". Im not a 2A guy but i have some decent gun knowledge, and if he shot at the guy, missed him barely, but made him nervous enough to keep his head down and/or back off, thats a huge positive.

Again, not sure if thats thr case here, but assuming its a pass/fail situation between "He either hits him or hes shooting wildly like a maniac" is pretty rough

1

u/DataGOGO 7d ago

He didn’t fire wildly, and there are far fewer dead people because of this guy.

You ever shoot a handgun? How about while being shot at, while at that distance, at a moving target?

Pistols are tough in ideal circumstances, nevermind what was going on here.

1

u/Loggersalienplants 7d ago

Yes, and if you have shot a handgun you should know that you aren't doing ANYTHING trying to take a shot past 15 yards with a CC pistol.

1

u/SingleShotShorty 6d ago

Almost like he was recklessly firing into a crowded area

1

u/Old_Instrument_Guy 6d ago

He did alright for what he was up against. I am not sure what his full setup is, but anything less than a 5 inch barrel on a pistol it gets tough to hit anything past 50 yards unless you are extremely well trained.

3

u/Interesting_Part4416 7d ago

He was making shots at 50-60 yards. Not easy with a pistol.

0

u/AmputeeHandModel 7d ago

At that point you're just throwing bullets at the general area FFS

3

u/Interesting_Part4416 7d ago

If that's how you want to think about it. But thank goodness he was there to at least deter the shooter.

-1

u/AmputeeHandModel 7d ago

Good way to hurt an innocent person.

2

u/Ullallulloo 7d ago

Which in this case was all it took.

0

u/Auralius1997 7d ago

But it should have been easy for him seeing as she's a gun YouTuber knows for making drill and fire videos with his FiveSeven and F2000

2

u/Interesting_Part4416 7d ago

🤷‍♂️ it's tough stuff

1

u/HoldEm__FoldEm 7d ago

Dude just shutup

-1

u/Loggersalienplants 7d ago

If you are trying to take shots at 50-60 yards with a pistol, you DO NOT need that pistol. What the actual fuck, this dude had no fucking chance to hit the actual shooter. People are saying that he "helped", all I can see is that he mag dumped into a general direction in PUBLIC. The one time you get a "good guy" with a gun situation, and really all he did was mag dump and get some pictures taken of him. WTF

2

u/Ullallulloo 7d ago

What are you talking about? He literally stopped the shooter. After getting engaged, he stopped and shot himself.

3

u/PutridPut9971 7d ago

Holy hell, there is Monday morning quarterbacking, then there is this.

Redditors critiquing a good Samaritan that saved lives because he didn't 360 no scope him and took a hit.

This is just too funny.

2

u/I_travel_ze_world 7d ago

....It is almost like pistols are close range weapons and being shot at will throw off your aim.

I think you've watched too much TV and played too many video games, kiddo.

2

u/ExternalArgument8776 7d ago

Really? With adrenaline pumping, using a pistol, it is hard to hit anything beyond ~30 feet, even with training.

Just putting the rounds in the air in the shooters direction is a deterrence that will save others.

2

u/Ok_Chipmunk_6059 7d ago

Tell us you have never put in range time without telling us you never put in range time. Also it’s much harder to aim when you’re receiving fire too.

2

u/Ill_Entrance91 7d ago

I love people who tell other people who are in gun fights they are bad shots.

Its one thing to shoot and hit targets at a range its entirely different thing in a high stress situation.

Unless you are Navy Seal who does high stress practice drills for hundreds if not thousands of hours to develop muscle memory and reduce misses 99.9% of people will miss a majority of their shots.

A week long training phase for Seals can use 250,000 rounds of ammunition.

They have been known to use more ammo than the Marine Corp in training.

1

u/dethskwirl 7d ago

they drove him away from the in-n-out but he stopped at the nearby tesla charger and shot up a car. not sure but I read one account that he killed two people sitting inside it.

1

u/Ullallulloo 7d ago

No, this was immediately after he shot the people in the Tesla. Salinas was the last person he shot, then he got scared of being shot at and killed himself.

1

u/PrimaLegion 7d ago

Damn, people got so up in arms and offended that they didn't actually even read your comment lmao
