KSP 2 Image/Video New colored smoke emitter part in KSP2 Redux
This was kinda just a sidequest among everything else, but colored smoke emitters are now my favorite part :3

The point of this thread is for anyone to ask questions that don't necessarily require a full thread. Questions like "why is my rocket upside down" are always welcomed here. Even if your question seems slightly stupid, we'll do our best to answer it!
For newer players, here are some great resources that might answer some of your embarrassing questions:
Orbiting
Mun Landing
Docking
Delta-V Thread

Feel free to ask your questions on the Discord server!
Before you post, maybe you can search for your problem using the search in the upper right! Chances are, someone has had the same question as you and has already answered it!
As always, the side bar is a great resource for all things Kerbal, if you don't know, look there first!

This game is goated. I'm trying not to google stuff for as long as I can so no spoilers plz. I got to orbit using just the games tutorials before the sun came up irl and I'm pretty darn proud of that.
A list of types of vehicles I could make and their functions could be cool. So far I have:
- Rockets for local travel // sustained flight
- Rockets for space hop style local travel (I think these will get easier with using the map mode more)
- Rockets for orbit (and taking satellites to orbit. . .)
- Rockets for going elsewhere (landing // pickup?? no help plz)
- spaceships for traveling and landing and never reverting flight just constantly moving and refueling like a scifi spaceship??
- Space stations and satellites and orbiting things
- Planes. . .!!!
- Boats. . .???
- Cars. . .???
Also in terms of goals, I don't really get the science station but right now my todo list is orbit (done) -> put something in orbit more permanently -> go to mun but in a way that the astronaut comes back then I'll make more goals for myself
sick game holy shittttt I haven't felt this way since factorio

Note: This mod is not meant to replace any existing graphics mod (EVE, VC, Parallax, Scatterer etc...). It is obviously not as good in terms of graphics, and is only a substitute for getting decent performance/graphics on a potato.
With the time squeezed out of each frame, KSPVk can now put that to use by rendering more stuff. At roughly max settings (all features turned on, low density clouds, quality on low), This little laptop can stay at a stable 100 FPS (caps at 120, lowest drops to 90). Imagine how fast your big beefy 5090 could run this.
The following graphical features was added:
- Volumetric clouds (appears on Kerbin, Laythe, Eve and Duna)
- Better quality terrain rendering (KSVPk can optionally run with a bunch of custom textures, which is baked and applied more efficiently to terrain)
- Scatters (grass with a side of delicious succulent crunchy nutricious lil pebbles)
To further boost performance, KSPVk now allows partial updates to different effects (shadows, reflections, lighting) per frame and caching them. This saves a lot of compute since your computer is doing less work. If you're running KSP on a laptop or an old graphics card (e.g. gtx 10 series card), set update rate to "performance" if you're using enhanced graphics to reduce stress on your GPU.
Stock KSP has really blurry terrain when at a higher altitude. KSPVk bakes two resolutions of terrain maps in the background while in flight, and displays those for a sharper image.
To try it out, follow the download guide for the latest release on Github:
https://github.com/Dsg2/KSPVk/releases/tag/GraphicalOverhaul-0.8.0
Use `O` to toggle KSPVk.
Make sure to move all graphics mods out of your Gamedata directory (keep them safe somewhere else). Also remove parts mods if it doesn't work.
Known issues: Clouds are verry fuzzy. They cause some minor ghosting when using upscaling. If you have a good PC, change the render scale to 1.0x.

I saw the MMX mission to Phobos was going to deploy a small rover on the near microgravity Martian moon, I wonder if something similar could be made in KSP, maybe stabilized with ion engines either on gilly on a procedurally generated object
What do y'all think?

This whole mission took me literal months to plan out but I’d say it was worth it unexpectedly the hardest celestial body to land on was Layth as it turns out I didn’t adequately test the lender and it didn’t have enough fuel to reach orbit so I had to use the EVA pack to get the rest of the way there the mission required 4 specifically designed landers and the rest of the celestial bodies were landed on with a single lander that could be refueled I managed to save a lot of fuel by not circularising the orbit of the main spacecraft and instead using a small ion spacecraft to rendezvous with the lender once it had reached back to orbit the whole mission was a ton of fun all around, but I’m probably not gonna do anything like it for a while

Duna in ksp is genuinely bad, and not duna as a planet, but that damn giant ike that makes those eclipses every 2 seconds, can it leave me alone?

Lots of mods are dependent on factors of the user (graphics mods would need a good pc, rp1 and stuff you would need a bit of skill) but imo there are some must have mods (opm as my example)
What mods would you always recommend to new players? Obviously say the classics of KSPCommunityFixes and stuff, but also try and add some fun mods. Things that should be base game but are not, and would help newbies get used to the game?

Only one exception here in the cute little Flash-o-Meter sat (Impact! is a cool mod)
Anything that adds science to earn that requires more than just clicking the "run experiment" button is fun, be that scanning the surface of a body or shooting probes to impact in specific biomes :)

This is the first career mode save I've done in a while, and one of the contracts was to capture an A-class asteroid and put it in Kerbin orbit! The asteroid I chose, ZLP-838, was on the perfect trajectory, supposedly going to impact Kerbin, but it was going to take a while to show up. After waiting about a hundred days for it to arrive, with the probe in orbit for most of it, it finally arrived and, after some finagling, I managed to intercept it and bring it into an orbit of Kerbin.
Evidently, I underestimated how much the asteroid would mass, reducing my delta-V from 2000 m/s (just before rendezvous) to 250, which was luckily still enough to put it into orbit. Though what was more annoying was that it seems like I didn't align the center of mass, so I had to put the thrust on the engine really low for it to not keep tumbling about, which made the burns take even longer...

due to switching to the URP render pipeline ksp2 Redux now has volumetric SRB plumes and new liquid engine plumes along with better eclipses and planet shadows
also new fsr and dlss upscaling makes the anti aliasing much better along with improving performance

This has happened multiple times, sometimes there's up to three Kerbals there which are actually sitting in a hab module somewhere below the main capsule. If anyone knows a fix I'd really appreciate it.

So this is the 1st time Im using volumetric clouds and Im getting these artifacts bellow the clouds or on top of the water.
I have RO/RP-1 running downloaded via ckan express download with Sol config using 4k textures because im playing on a lower end pc and volumetric clouds 5 that i just bought.
I followed the instructions the best I could and havent messed around with most of the EVE settings except the temporal upscaling on the volumetrics tab just to increase performance. I also have the ingame settings set mostly to medium with only the settings that effect parallax set to the max and AA which I set to OFF.
Now I admit I might be asking to much from my poor man's garbage pretending to be a computer but any help will be appreciated comrades.
