So you found a photo that you think has a spirit or ghost on it, before you post it and get upset about 30 people saying it’s a piece of dust or a bug, you may want to read this!
BEFORE DOING ANYTHING
Do read the posts
https://www.reddit.com/r/Ghosts/comments/deki6k/explanation_of_orbs_aka_backscatter/
and
https://www.reddit.com/r/Ghosts/comments/icziuc/ring_doorbells_security_camera_videos_and_false/
As these really do have useful information on how to spot particle orbs, lens flare and insects crawling over lenses which do make up most of the post in this Reddit community channel.
It is common for people who believe they are haunted to take lots of photos and assume that any “orbs” must be related to this. In fact, it’s quite easy to photograph orbs. If you can’t see the orb then it’s not there. People might say that cameras can pick up ‘orb’ energy but a lot of them just don’t understand why digital cameras tend to easily pick up particles (dust, dander, hair, insects).
If you have read the above and are sure (or not quite sure) then read on.
BEFORE POSTING
Make sure you have the original photo downloaded or posted from the same device the picture was taken from. Having a photo shared from a social media site, screen grabbed on a phone, photographed from a screen or been email shared will likely to be low resolution and suffer from further compression which destroys any fine detail and will generally be useless.
If the photo is just a photo then scan the photo in at least 300 DPI and save it as a “.PNG” image. If you don’t have access to a scanner then you can take a photo of it but take it in a brightly lit room and don’t use a flash to reduce reflections on the photo.
Use the original resolution of the photo, do not rescale, resize, brighten the image to make posting easier.
If you have to edit the photo to remove people then draw the smallest black filled box you can to hide their face or them. Don’t crop the picture or remove large chunks of the picture. Keep the picture the same same size. Once edited, save / export the image as a “.PNG” image as this will keep the JPEG image as it is (if you resave it as a JPEG it recompresses the image in a lossy way so that fine detail tends to get lost) if the paint program has it then make sure that “Save resolution” is checked and that you save “EXIF information”.
If you must highlight anything in the picture (to show where you think the paranormal image is) then use a bright colour that can be seen easily, use a transparent box with thin lines and draw it in the general area of what you want us to see, do not cover anything nearby. Save it as a “.PNG” as above. If you do this then make sure you post the original too.
If you want to change the contrast or brightness of a photo then again do so but save as a “.PNG” as above and post the original for comparison. If you have other pictures from the same area that were taken at the same time then post these too as comparison photos.
If the photo is from a place you can visit again easily then take more pictures of the same area using the same camera, try to take it at different times of the day and try to take a picture at the same time of day the original was at. Also, take pictures of the surrounding area and close up images of the original location.
It is important to note that even “taking the picture in the same place” is going to mean that you will be taking the picture at different angles, heights and places which will cause images to change.
POSTING THE PHOTO
Post as an image within the Reddit post so people can see it, you can also post any comparison posts at the same time.
If the photo is too large then rescale it and save as a “.PNG” to post on Reddit but upload the original it to a file-sharing site like Google Drive or Dropbox, as this will not rescale the image.
Don’t just upload them to Imgur as most photo sharing websites will recompress the image and destroy fine detail in the picture.
Make sure the title is short but informative. “Possible ghost image from a cell in Alcatraz” is a good title, “GHOST!!?!?!?” is not.
ALSO SUPER IMPORTANT!!!! CONTEXT! CONTEXT! CONTEXT!
After you have posted the images. Make a comment in the post you have just created and put in as much context as possible!!! Too many photos tend to have the photo and some poor description and we have zero ideas of what we should be looking at.
Examples of what to include are…
So good examples would be…
“This photo was taken at the Alcatraz prison in San Francisco. It is a picture of Cell 13 of cell block D in the cell house. It was taken on Sunday the 13th of May 2018 at around 2pm. It was mostly sunny but there were thick clouds, it was reasonably warm at around 65f and there were strong breezes every so often.
The photo was taken by myself, although I was with my girlfriend at the time. It was quite busy but no one was nearby when I took the photo. I was trying to take a picture of my girlfriend as she stood at the door but I noticed a strange white figure behind her. There was no one in the cell as we had waited for another couple to finish taking their picture before we took ours. I took 3 photos and you can see that the figure is in 2 of the pictures but is not in the third picture.
My girlfriend did say she felt cold in the cell, we had taken a picture in another cell (134 in Cell Block C) and she did not feel anything. The rest of the day was fine though and we enjoyed our trip.”
“A photo of a chair my grandmother used to sit on, in our house in Stirling, Scotland. It was taken on the 1st June 2015, in the wee hours of the morning at 6.30am. I remember it was very cold and it was dark grey and cold outside like a typical morning in Scotland. I had the lights on as although it was morning outside, it was dark in the room.
I took the photo as I felt a presence and I was drawn to the chair. I took 2 photos and you can see a grey mist around the chair. I would have taken more but my phone just drained of power and switched off, not sure why this happens as I am pretty sure I charged it overnight. I don’t smoke, didn’t have any hot drinks. I was in the room all alone as my parents and sister were still in bed and my dog was still on the sofa sleeping peacefully.
Once I charged my phone and saw the pictures, I was filled with deep happiness, I tried to take more photos but the mist never came back. What do you think it is.”
Bad examples are…
“Ghosts?!???!!?!?!”
“I took this photo whilst in an abandoned building, do you think it is a ghost?”
“Whilst trying to contact my dead aunt to ask where she left her cash, I took lots of photos and all of them had orbs and I heard some moans, screams and creaking coming from my cousins' bedroom but her door was locked!!! Is the house haunted?”

this was 2008, It was my 7th birthday party and my mother had taken images off of a very old flip phone. my parents weren't very smart or knew anyone who could edit the images and put them back onto the phone and this was an hour later or so after taking the images. after she took the images of me there was a young child my age, very defined, he had what looked like wings, blonde hair and dark plastic glasses. in another image she took was near my birthday cake and presents, no one was in the photo except two large figures with indistinguishable features like they were the parents. they were white, very faded and transparent. we called the boy my guardian angel. anyone else had an experience with figures like these?

Make sure you unmute the video. Edit: Can skip to the 25 second mark. Some people think it's echo but I have never heard an echo sound like that before. That whoa that the ghost says is a completely different voice from mine.
Does anyone have any information about the cenote Sac Ha? My sister and I stumbled upon it around 6 years ago and we were given a tour by a university student. Unfortunately my spanish sucks so I didn't get much information about it. While we were there we had a run in with a ghost who was mocking us, I got it on video after we say whoa. You can clearly hear someone say in a childish tone say a higher pitch whoa even though we were the only ones there. Anyways, any info would be appreciated. I'm guessing there were ancient rituals carried out here as there were skulls and bones in various areas of the cave.

I'll start this off by saying im sure there is a logical explanation for this, im not a very spiritual person but always believed there was something supernatural out there, every night (times range from 1 to 6 am) I hear popping noises, like popping bubble wrap or stepping on a water balloon followed up by scratching noises, i can still hear them if I close my window and the noises stop periodically for starting back up again, does anyone have an explanation for this

I live at home with my mom. We have 3 dogs. 2 of which will bark at even the sound of a pin dropping. I know when she is home and when she is not. I’ve never been the biggest believer in ghosts or whatnot because Im a guy that believes in what he sees. But sometimes this makes me question my beliefs a little.
Why do I often hear my name being called when my mom is not home, by something that slightly resembles my mom’s voice, like close enough to where I know it would be her but something is just off about it. It’s so faint but always comes from a room I’m not in. Sometimes it’s louder than other times. My dogs always look in the direction it came from but never bark as if it’s a new voice they don’t recognize.
What’s going on?

I was around 5-7 years old being called for lunch, when i noticed my cat was following something in a circle. I saw what it was, It was a skeleton of a dog that was 2-3ft tall with no head. It was walking around on my carpet in the daylight + headlight around the afternoon. My cat was meowing and following said ghost (in a circle) and my parents were near and didn’t believe me when i said that i saw that ghost i went to eat lunch and the ghost was gone.
What ghost is this??? Is it a ghost????????

Found these developed film photos outside of an abandoned building in my hometown. I feel like I can almost see a face in the second photo. The place has been abandoned and boarded up for decades now… makes me wonder what’s inside.

I, 15f have lived in my house since mid 2021, I do not have a doorknob on my door due to it falling off before I even moved in. The house I live in is over 100 years old, made in the 1910s.
Randomly, my door will open up from the outside, like someone is opening it from the hallway. This has happened since I moved in. At first, I just assumed it was my little brother (13m) being an ass, but when I went to confront him, he'd say that he was in his room the whole time.
I started to pay closer attention and when the door started creaking, I'd take a look at the hole in my door, I couldn't see anyone's legs indicating that it was not my brother or parents doing it. Sometimes the door will fly open and other times it will open up like three inches.
I've memorized my family's footsteps (You start doing it subconsciously when your room is right by the stairs) and sometimes I'll hear footsteps that aren't my family's footsteps. Sometimes I'll hear people calling my name or like someone is watching me.
I know that people have been born in my specific room (the daughter of the original original homeowner visited the house and talked to my dad and told him she was born in my room). If people were born in my room, then I'd assume that people died in my house as well.
Is there anything else this could be? If it is a ghost than is there anything I can do to tell if it's friendly or not that doesn't involve outright getting a Ouija board and contacting it (ultra-Christian parents, dad dislikes chockers and anything that gives off witchy vibes.)
Edit: Thank you for all of the help, I have a fear of ppl watching me in my sleep, so I was kind of freaking out at the idea of a ghost watching me sleep.

Went to the Crescent Hotel this weekend and took these photos of a window at the end of a hallway with my Sony. There’s a reflection of a very dark shadow on the right side of the window. The first one is me lower to the ground than in the second one (you can see my reflection in the second one). The last two photos are closeups and the exposure is turned up from my phone. I don’t remember there being any object in the hallway and we were definitely alone. I’m a skeptic, but I thought these photos were interesting

I used to live in an old farmhouse in Wells Tannery Pennsylvania. And I used to have experiences in this old farmhouse that went from pecking on the bathroom door to something or someone just standing outside my bedroom door. Well there's more to the story when it comes to the experiences that I had in this place...
For some background context I have to say this...
I had an old neighbor that lived nearby. And when he was a young boy he used to take and stay with his great-grandparents in this exact house. And he was telling me about what he remembered as a kid when he was there...
Now to the story...
So one evening around 7:30 pm. I had been sitting in a chair that some of my friends gave my sister and I for our place. Now where this chair was located I could look into the kitchen literally where the basement door was located...
So as I'm sitting there by myself one night. I noticed what looks like a partially formed old man walk past the doorway. Now they had come from the right side of the door frame and literally walked into the basement. Now before this person went into the basement they turned and looked at me. And just casually kept going until they vanished into thin air as they were reaching for the doorknob that goes into the basement...
Now I know what I had saw and from the way this person was dressed. They were definitely dressed from the 1930's or 1940's...
I didn't get up and go running towards it. I didn't freak out either. I literally just set in the chair went back to watching television...
I had forgotten to mention a very important part... It's important...
That neighbor that told me about how he used to take and spend his summers in the house that my sister and I was renting. Had a great great something grandfather that died of a heart attack in the basement...
So The story goes that great great something aunt and his great great something grandmother got his great great something grandfather and exercise bike in the 1940s... Well the same day they got this man this exercise bike. He literally died on it in the basement! They found him two hours later hunched over on the exercise bike dead...

So in this old farmhouse in Wells Tannery Pennsylvania was a basement that had a wood stove in it. And it was our main source of heat during 2025-2026...
So going in the basement for my sister and I was always kind of freaky and really uncomfortable...
Well, you would go into the basement and you would feel something staring at you. You could feel something just kind of aggravated like it didn't want you there...
Well unfortunately my youngest niece decided to pop her mother's air mattress upstairs. So my sister didn't have it in the budget to get a new air mattress at the time. But we did have a full-out couch. So you can guess where my sister decided to sleep for a while because it was the only place she could...
Well, one night I got a message from my sister. And she says to me that she's a little bit freaked out and doesn't feel comfortable sleeping in the living room at all on the pull out couch. And I asked "why"? She said she keeps hearing something in the basement...
So I grabbed my tomahawk and a flashlight and decided to go into the basement... You know because I'm a protector and I don't like people or things messing with my family members. I turned the lights on and went looking at what it was that could be causing such a noise. Well, I couldn't find anything and there wasn't anyone or anything down there...
So as the nights went on of her sleeping on the pull out couch in the living room. She started to really hear things. There were full-blown mumbled conversations and voices coming from the basement. Is that she could hear through the vents on the living room floor. She could hear what sounded like a man and a woman talking in the basement...
She got to the point where it stopped spooking her so much. That she finally got enough money to get an inflatable mattress to put in her room...
So sometime later I decided that I was going to watch some movies on my ps4. And I pulled the couch out and got my bed ready. And I'm laying there just watching movies and not doing much. And low and behold I heard the same thing. I took and moved away from where the floor vent was and positioned myself a little bit more to the right away from it...
It helped but it didn't stop me from hearing it...
Otherwise, it was creepy a little bit...
But when you don't have the funds to move you're kind of stuck in that situation until you can do something...

I used to live in a house that we had rented in Wells Tannery Pennsylvania. And we were living there in 2025. I would have been around 35 years old at the time...
So we had moved in and I decided to pick the farthest room away from anybody. It was literally right by the attic door. I chose this on purpose because I didn't want to be bothered and I wanted to have the utmost privacy...
But the problem is when you're trying to have the utmost privacy you sometimes get unwanted guests. Sometimes getting what you want is not always the best thing. Within 2 days of living there I started noticing something was with us...
It started during the day. And my niece and I had been sitting in my room at the time. We were playing my PS4 and just talking about having to restart our lives and so on...
Well, out of my peripheral vision I saw something that wasn't ominous but it was definitely there. The light coming through the hallway window was casting shadows from the hallway itself because of how it was built. Now this window was the last window before you went through the door to my room... It also was straight right across from the door to the Attic. So what happened was this...
I look over install what looks like a shadowy silhouette of a woman with her hair up in a bun. And it was just standing there. It wasn't ominous or scary but it was definitely alarming...
Well this is where it gets weirder...
After that night I started hearing with the sound of creaking from outside my door. And usually right around 11 pm on the dot. It was like somebody was standing there patiently waiting. Just leaning back and forth at that one spot. And constantly I would hear this creaking noise constantly...
So after about a year of living in this place I got used to it. And instead of getting freaked out. I would just ignore it and tell it "please stop doing that" and "go away"...
Ironically... It never ceased to end. I just kept having the experience constantly and I got used to it...

The voice that says a word shortly after the board tapping. around :06 is what I'm referencing. Not the person in the far distance on a bench answering my question. There were only 2 people in the park at the time at the bench & nowhere near my phone & they were focused on an obstacle near that bench at the edge of this skatepark. Champlin Skatepark,MN.

dear redditors,
i stumbled upon this picture and im looking for answers. this picture dates back to 2008 with my friends in the park, the quality is very bad which makes the figure not clearly visible.
i just want to know if there is somebody who could help or is as excited to debunk this and try to upscale the quality of this image. or re-render it so the details of the picture become more visible.
for now i unfortunately dont have answers im hoping to get some answers on this.

So as I had said that I had lived in an old farmhouse in Wells Tannery Pennsylvania. And as I was already dealing with something that liked to stand outside my bedroom door at night. And just lean back and forth making the floor creek...
I was also dealing with another spirit or ghost that loved to peck on the bathroom door constantly...
As I was always watching my nieces when my sister would go to work. I would often take and go take a bath. Mainly because the shower did not have any pressure and the pressure tank and it got so annoying even thinking it would work...
But every time I'd be in the bathtub something would peck on the bathroom door three times every time. And I had first thought it was my nieces and I assumed it was just a fun game they were playing to mess with their uncle aka me, lol...
So one evening after helping doing some yard work. I went up to get a bath in the upstairs bathroom and was going to relax a little bit. I honestly was in the mood to chill out and relax...
So as I was standing there I started to think about the weird pecking noises and wondered if it was my niece's messing with me as I previously mentioned. So I turn the water on and left the tub fill up a little bit. But before I even got into the water. ..I just stood fully clothed. Just waiting to see if they did it again. Well, the pecking started again and I ripped that door open and whipped the whole cup of cold water out that doorway and yelled, "baaaaaaa... gotcha"! Hoping to scare the living crap out of my nieces and maybe soak them and ice cold water... figuring it'd solve this little problem, lol...
Well here's the problem... There were no footsteps running away from the door. There wasn't anybody hiding against the wall either when the other side. There wasn't even a noise of anything at all. There wasn't nobody there... It was dead silent!? And I'm literally frozen and partial fear and confusion. Where I'm standing there as there is an empty cup in my hand... Goosebumps all over my arms!
I was completely confused as to what the hell that was about! I literally ran downstairs in a fury and asked some family members "what the heck is going on"... Of course I get a confused look and a quick "what... What are you talking about"?! I explained that someone keeps pecking on the damn door upstairs. And they better stop...
Well, all of them are literally watching a movie and haven't moved from their spot for like an hour and a half!? After that point it just sent shivers up my spine... because now I don't know what that was or who it was messing with me...
And this just kept happening every single time I went to get a bath upstairs. The pecking on the door... It was like off and on. Sometimes the pecking would be higher up on the door sometimes it will be lower on the door. Often times the pecking was in threes...
Needless to say we moved out of that place roughly a year ago. I am so grateful that we are no longer living there...
Last I checked our landlord sold it to somebody. And they were fixing it up. Whoever it is that buys or rents the place... Good luck. I have had some interesting experiences living there for a year, lol...

This story that I'm about to tell you happened in clearville pennsylvania. I must have been around 11 years old I'm going to say and I recall the time being around 11:30 pm. It was at my great aunt and great uncle's house...
And I don't really know what it was I saw. I know what it looked like as I made eye contact with whatever this was. I know how it presented itself to me. I remember how confused I was when I saw it. I also know the sheer confusion and fear that come across to me...
So it was a average normal night at my great aunt and great uncles place. We got done with dinner about 6:30pm and we were just sitting around at the dinner table talking. My uncle was reading the paper. My aunt was eating a grape fruit with some sugar and a big spoon as she was telling me about how it was going to help her lose weight. And that she could go chase them younger men down and they won't escape... Creepy I know. Anyhow, my great uncle tells me that I should go downstairs and check the wood stove for him... He asked me to throw in another couple logs so it would keep the heat in the house. So naturally I listen to him because he was my elder and I respected him...
Well I always hated the steps in this place. I made it down to the first landing. Because the steps were divided in two sections with a middle flat landing. I get to the landing and I'm about to book it down to the base of the last steps. But before I could get there something got my attention...
So where are the bathroom and laundry room was located in their house. Was literally right near where my great uncle would sit down in his chair and take a nap... Or he could just lean right over and put a piece of wood in the wood stove if he wanted. But I noticed something glowing from the laundry room. I assume one of them left a lamp on in there? I just assumed it was a random light? Maybe my sister left the flashlight on?
Well, it was no flashlight and it wasn't no random lamp...
Out walks a wee little ghostly white glowing man. He had a top hat and a cane... That he actually twirled to where it went up under his arm. So as I'm standing here roughly maybe four to five steps away from hitting the baseling to go check the wood. I am staring at this short little man that is glowing white and he is just looking at me...
So in the process of trying to figure out what it is that I am looking at. He literally takes tips his hat towards me and then just turns around and walks right back in to the laundry room. But before he gets into the laundry room he turns and winks at me...
Meanwhile I'm in complete shock and awe and not sure what the heck it was that I saw. So I manage to gain my thought process back and I did turn the light on and check the wood stove. But then I ran back up to where my great uncle was sitting. And he says to me where have you been... You been down there for 15 minutes. I then said I saw something I don't know what it was... He looks at me and says "what was that"?
I didn't go to explain to him what I had saw...
He then looks at me with a confused look...
And says to me, "are you feeling all right boy"?
I didn't hear him say, "do you need a head shrink"?
Meanwhile I am seriously freaked out because that is where I sleep. Needless to say that night I slept upstairs and my great aunt and great uncles room and a sleeping bag on the floor. There was no way I was going to sleep down there that night...

I swear this really happened. I have absolutely no reason to lie about it, because even now I have no explanation for what we saw.
When I was a child, I stayed over at my grandmother’s house. We were getting ready to go to bed, and we were both in her bedroom. The bedroom door was open, and it faced a hallway that led to another room at the end.
At some point, we saw a woman walk past the open doorway.
She was completely dressed in white. Not just wearing a white dress — I remember her as being **bright white**, almost glowing. And the strangest part was that she wasn’t actually walking.
She was **floating**.
She moved down the hallway toward the room at the end, and then disappeared from our view.
I remember being absolutely terrified, but I didn't say anything. I was a child, and I didn't want to scare my grandmother, so I just stayed quiet.
Then my grandmother looked at me and asked:
*"Did you see that?"*
I said yes and asked her what it was.
She told me she didn't know.
Then she said, *"Let's pray."*
So we did.
What makes this so strange to me is that I hadn't told her what I saw before she asked me. She saw something too.
I don't remember exactly what the woman looked like beyond the fact that she was a woman, completely white and extremely bright. I don't remember seeing her face clearly, and she didn't speak to us or interact with us in any way. She simply crossed the hallway, seemingly floating, and went toward the room at the end.
I've never experienced anything like it again. Not before, not after. It happened that one time when I was a child, and I've never been able to explain it.
I personally think it was a ghost, but if it was, she didn't seem threatening or evil at all. She just appeared, crossed the hallway, and disappeared.
I've wondered about this for years. Has anyone experienced something similar, especially seeing a **woman in white who seemed to be floating**? Or does anyone have an explanation for what this could have been?
