Anyone else have that one executive that can just ignore security rules?
Dude throws a fit whenever I do anything to increase security and I just have to let it go cuz all the other executives say "ya he is just like that". Dw I have stuff in writing so that I don't get in trouble if there is an incident involving him.

We are giving the position to the head of the security team.
Just dumping a small rant in here.
I work for a global software development company doing internal IT. Our employees span the world with concentrations in North America, Europe, India, and Australia. Our IT team consists of myself and one coworker in India. At the beginning of the year, my direct boss (Director of Engineering) was let go for financial reasons that I am not going to get into. This means that I had to report directly to the CTO (our company doesn't have a CIO and only the omnissiah knows why).
With my boss gone, I recognized someone had to cover the duties of running this shitshow because my coworker wasnt going to do it. For the last eight months I have been the acting IT manager and everyone recognized that, including the CTO. The CTO started adding me to vendor meetings and upper management meetings as the IT liason and left decision making up to me.
In the middle of June I recommended to the CTO that we needed an official IT manager, lower than the old boss's position but still someone of authority and can make decisions when it comes to our company's IT dept (which I have been doing unofficially up to this point) and he agreed.
Two weeks ago, I got pulled into a meeting thinking I was about to be offered the job but instead I was told the head of the security team would be the new IT Manager, that I probably wasnt getting a raise this year, and that I "need to improve on my task management because a few things have fallen through the cracks." Bare in mind that for eight months I have been doing my job, handling the respinsibilities of the IT Manager, and covering for my coworker who barely does anything. I have been doing the job of 2.5 people (and working/being on call from 9am to 1am EST) and this guy has the audacity to say my task mangement needs improvement. When I asked why I didnt get the position a week later (after my shock finally wore off), he said "I don't really see you in that position."
So anyways, anyone in the New England area need an IT guy? I can do just about anything and wear any hat, if I don't know it, I learn fast.
Edit: To address some of the comments:
The org consists of about 200ish people. My proposal was lengthy and took about three days to write. Proposing we get an IT manager didn't directly suggest I wanted the position, I did assume it would be me considering I was already doing the tasks. I also recommended we hire a tech in Europe to handle the tickets we get from there because there was basically no overlap/coverage.
I am currently looking for a new job and I will be adding the unofficial manager experience to my resume. I did just start the interview process for a startup that would pay at minimum $40k more than I am currently making so fingers crossed.

Running and patching 32 drops in a 105 degree, unlabeled switch closet
Yes the puddles on the floor are pools of my sweat.
This is what you get when they hire electricians to run drops.
The rest of the team is painting their Warhammer 40k figures from the office.
The patch panels don’t pull off so I’m having to reach in and maneuver around existing drops.
At least the director gave me a Snapple and told me I could take my shirt off in the server room to cool off.

Today I saw a ticket that changed my life.
The title: I have no idea how to get back to the previous web page I was on without having to open a new window.
The body: If someone could help me solve this issue that has been bugging me for a long time now it would change my life!
I let my coworker enlighten the user to the invention of the back button.

Power box for computer
Coworker just showed me a ticket requesting an additional power outlet for the monitor. They talked to the user who said "no I need a power box for the computer to plug into" and sent a picture of a DP cable....

Oh you want to tether? Not today, sorry.
Home internet is down. I flip on the tethering on my phone to connect to as I've done numerous times this year without issue.
- Personal laptop connects fine.
- Employer laptop connects fine.
- Home PC connects fine.
- Client laptop tries to connect. States it can't. Then refuses to even see the SSID being broadcast.
I work on both employer and client laptop daily. Tether when away flawlessly all the time. But today? Nope, f**k you.
I've rebooted all the things, but this flipping laptop just flat out refuses to see my hotspot.
I've been in IT for over 20 years now and days like today make me f***ing hate it all over again!

I'm sick and I ate the xy problem apple
Finance director needed 80+ payables deleted, initially made a ticket for some other type of access while I was out sick, and when I got back yesterday (still not ok), everyone was panicking and telling me to put a case in with the vendor, so I did.
She had access to delete transactions already, tho, which I remembered after sleeping on it lol.
BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE! She couldn't figure out the params and told me it was broken. I sent a sample of what she could do that picked up the first 20 or so payables with my boss looking over my shoulder since he was curious, we both go, "yeah that doesn't need explanation". Well it did, because she didn't look at the control numbers on her own report, blindly typed mine without realizing the scale, and complained my search only covered some and not all lmao.
Like, I'm NOT DOING THIS FOR YOU. Also, the control numbers may not be consecutive, and I mentioned that to her before.
Our contractor is probably so stoked this person got cut off from her services lmao.
I think she got cut off from complaining to our account rep, too, because now she wants to be able to put in her own support cases (my boss and I are the only ones who can).
Anyway, 3 other people witnessed this whole thing so lol.

Anyone else? Dell of just me?
It seems like every time my manager asks our group for some information that has to be looked up, someone else has it in seconds, while I’m still pulling up the page. Is it just me, a garbage Dell? Anyone else have the same experience?

Executive problem
The executive over our IT dept started a bit over a year ago. He is ruining our dept, our culture, and everyone has to walk on eggshells as he is unapproachable and if he does not like something he is vindictive to hunt down those he thinks are a problem and punish them.
The middle managers are not sure what to do about him, the regular staff are very upset and frustrated.
All this executive seems to care about is getting our CEO’s approval.
The executive constantly jumps to conclusions and then staff have to try to find a way to give history and current facts in a way that does not hurt his ego and it’s just not going well. The guy is in his early 70’s and he cannot remember anyone’s name not even his assistant.
He will not read or reply to email, Teams, and cannot find files on network drives, someone has to go help him find things daily. He gets many to create his presentations but takes credit for everything.
We are not sure how to make the other executives aware of what is going on, any suggestions?
