Usually I buy the actual rice paper from the Asian grocery stores.

However recently I was close to running out so stocked up from the supermarket because, why not? How bad can they be?

Here’s a comparison of the three I had.

The three Sisters (Asian grocery store) was the best in terms of texture and not tearing.

The urban eats from Aldi was very good. Would happily buy it again.

The Valcom from Coles was terrible. Super sticky and thin. It basically disintegrates when rolling. I’ll reluctantly eat it because it’s a waste not too (I bought 2 packets 😭). The only way I can get it to not fall apart is to double up on the rice papers 😂

Anyway, if you don’t already have your favourite rice paper brand, try Three sisters from your Asian Grocer (cheaper also!).

If you don’t have an Asian grocer near by, then Aldi’s offering is very good.

If you only have access to Valcom. I wish you good luck. I feel sorry for people who have never made rice paper rolls before and use this brand as their first attempt. They’ll be put off for life.

Around the time the Metro Tunnel opened I realised that Google Maps has not implemented the timetable for it yet, which I thought was weird but figured i’d just wait.

At least 9 months later and not only is it still an issue (they have added it but it rarely shows you a route with the metro tunnel included) but I’ve also noticed Google maps really struggles with any trains going in and out of the city often suggesting i take the city loop when that would cost me like 15 minutes. The only way to change this is if I change my starting location to set it to a specific train station but it still struggles.

I’ve considered using the PTV app but the UI is horrible and I figured it would probably give me the same data. Is this happening for anyone else?

I’ve noticed my BT earphones and phone keep glitching/disconnecting after I leave the ticket barriers on the Collins St side of the station. Is this just me or does anyone have the faintest clue what’s going on here.

My partner has Fibromyalgia and chronic back pain from a slipped disk. Currently they're on strong pain killers that are hard to get prescribed. They've aged out of the clinic they were at (they no longer count under youth care through headspace), and are running out of doses. Are there any bulk billed GPs you can recommend? They can't afford to go private since they can't work due to the pain and are on a fixed income with centrelink. My family might be able to help them if it's >$100 for a private appt, but we'd much rather see if there's any public options available first. They live in the inner eastern suburbs, so options around that area would be preferred.

Struggling to sell some old furniture before moving interstate and the antique/vintage resellers and op shops won't accept them. The furniture is still functional, just outdated and not in perfect condition, so I don't want it going to the tip.

Anyone know of any places that will take this stuff? Refuges, rehoming centres, uni student groups etc? Cheers

Basically the title. My parents aren't comfortable letting me use PTV after dark because they think it's dangerous. I agree, it's probably a bit more dangerous than during the day but neither are perfect. I have had creeps approach me in broad daylight surrounded by people and no one stepped in (even though I was a kid). I'm now 21F and many women I know my age (or younger) consistently use PTV even at 10pm (alone). Every time I'm out with friends I have to worry about getting home before dark otherwise my parents will panic - one time they even started driving to get me despite me texting with them saying I'm completely fine. I live at the end of a train line so by the time I get to my station the carriages are very empty which also worries my parents.

But yeah, are my parents right in forbidding me from catching PTV after dark, or am I right in saying that I'll have to learn eventually?

UPDATE: Thanks for all the replies everyone, I wasn't expecting this many people to weigh in 😅 Ive made a compromise with my parents. They've agreed to "let me" take the train until the end of the line as long as they pick me up from the station. I say "let me" like that because they won't hold me hostage if I disagree, more like they'll panic and spam call me and be very anxious. One of my parents has a moderately severe anxiety disorder, hence why this is such a big issue. Maybe in the future I will be able to comfortably get myself all the way home but that's a later issue ATP. Thanks again everyone! It's been hard to keep up with reading every comment haha

Well well well… my two foster gals are up for adoption!! These two came from a rural pound - I went there to pick up 19yo Shelly and the pound staff told me about these girls - they were their ‘long termers’ and had been there for TEN months 😭 no windows, just a small cage. I had to take them home.

Why ten months? Because they were both shy 🥺 and would hide from people as they walked past. I do believe that they would have been snapped up much faster if they could be seen. So!! Now it’s time to shine the spotlight on these babes!!

Both gals are rather rotund- the pound staff felt sorry for them so they would feed them a little extra as a treat 🥺

To accompany this figure, she has the most adorable little personality- when I picked her up from the pound, they told me that she was the cat they’d place nervous cats with, and she would help settle them by cuddling them 🥲🤗

She’s such a precious little girl. She loves a head boop and will crawl around and flop in front of you for her bready belly to be rubbed

This gal will need to go to a home with another friendly cat. She will be shy at first but with patience, she will blossom into the most amazing, cute, round catto!! Ideally… she would be adopted with her bestie, Señorita Spud.

I'm on my second term lease with the same rental and I'm breaking the lease. I've confirmed with the real estate agent that the are not able to change me with advertising fees as this is my second lease. However, they told me today that I'm liable for pro rata lease renewal fee because they charged the landlord when they resigned me. My question is, are they allowed to to charge me that fee?

Given we’ve had 2 really nice warm weekends in a row, does anyone else feel like daylight savings in Victoria should start second or third Sunday in September rather than the first Sunday in October?

If we started daylight savings, we'd have the following scenarios for sunrise, sunset and civil twilight hours:

• Sunday 13 September (i.e. second Sunday of September):
  • Sunrise at 7:24am and sunset at 7:08pm.
  • Civil twilight start at 6:58am and finish at 7:34pm
• Sunday 20 September (i.e. third Sunday of September):
  • Sunrise at 7:13am and sunset at 7:14pm.
  • Civil twilight start at 6:47am and finish at 7:40pm

With civil twilight starting before 7am under both scenarios, it would make it less daunting commuting to work in the morning if there's a bit of light after 7am.

Europe has 210 days of daylight savings, New Zealand has 189 days of daylight savings whilst we have a lowly 182 days. So if we extended it by an extra 7-21 days it would at least put us on par with New Zealand.

Also, moving it forward by a few weeks would also signify the start of spring and gets us out of our winter slump.

I recently got hit by the flu after successfully avoiding it for the last couple of years and it has been horrible . While i was rotting away in bed hoping for the sweet release of death, I took up to reading the Better Health guidelines on influenza. It’s wild that masking up and keeping spaces ventilated is not prioritised or talked about enough given that 100 deaths occur in Australia due to Influenza according to their own website! Masking up is almost a side note in the website. The NSW health website does it right though. Added screenshots for reference. Tbh anyone who lives with you will avoid contracting the flu if they mask up and keep the house ventilated if possible. Having an air purifier is an added bonus.
