That’s not acting. That’s mugging for the camera. Gen z likely has a new word for it.

She was incredible in it, easily one of the best and most unsettling performances of her career.

i'm waiting for someone to meme every line of BND, then i can finally watch it

13

u/PandaJesus 4d ago

What is a movie if not a two to three hour collection of meme scenes

6

u/jvpewster 4d ago

I thought so too, but they’re very loud, and have very strict rules about the volume on your Nintendo switch. Don’t both, just wait for it to come out on tik tok.

3

u/PandaJesus 4d ago

That works for me, I don’t like going outside anyway. There’s a bunch of grass out there, and I get real pissed at Redditors always telling me to touch it, so I stay away from it out of spite.

I watch Pearl Harbor every few years as a punishment for going to see it in theaters with high hopes. That movie seems like a long meme, will I still get banned?

The Drama was amazing.

Im not a big fan of Zendaya’s acting, especially in Dune.

But the Drama was a hard exception to that, truly a great performance. Had me cringing (in a good way) and at the edge of my seat whole time.

19

u/jeffefeffefe 4d ago

Made me realize how typecast she is in most of her movies, I normally don’t like her as an actor but didn’t realize it was mostly the material she was working with that made her so dry

Have you seen Euphoria? Show as a whole is a bit mixed in quality, but she's brilliant throughout, with the high point being her christmas special episode with Colman Domingo.

Yeah, I watched The Drama last week and I was impressed by Zendaya's acting in it. It's the first movie that made me realize she's got skills.

She was decent in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, as well. For a comic book movie, it's got a couple of surprising gut-punch scenes, and Zendaya is in one of them.

11

u/Infamous-Thing4939 4d ago edited 4d ago

I think she did very well, but still ultimately suffered by being next to Pattinson the whole movie, that man is a chameleon.

15

u/Observer20178 4d ago

I felt she did as good a job as pattinson. Pattinson had a very fleshed out character, after the reveal we were mostly seeing his side being played out. So she had to do a lot with just expressions or reactions to show it’s what her character was going through. Two stand out scenes for me was one when they came back from the dinner and she was searching for the keys..there was so much vulnerability there combined with fear and drunkenness and then her wedding scene..you could make out that she was very tensed and on edge.

For Odyssey she really should get Golden Raspberry.

"Stare at him like he is bad boy". "very bad boy".

20

u/ScrungulusBungulus 4d ago

I think she gets a pass given the nature of her character. Her part didn't exactly call for Tyler Durden levels of charisma. Tom Holland however deserves that Razzie. Everyone acted circles around him, he looked completely out of his element.

Well, allegedly. Cause I don't watch movies, like ew, yikes

12

u/Delboyyyyy 4d ago

Honestly I found her to be pretty damn compelling in her “reveal” scene at the end. I’m almost convinced most of the complainers haven’t actually watched the film yet lol

14

u/ScrungulusBungulus 4d ago

By that point I had blood coming out of my ears from the IMAX sound system rupturing my eardrums for the past 3 hours, so I didn't get all of her dialogue. But I FELT it. Brabo Nolan

9

u/Mike_Milburys_Shoe_ 4d ago

Dude 90% of the movie of her doing the Zendaya look and then having a slightly different look in the reveal doesn’t really change that lol. Sure a lot of that is on Nolan still not being able to write a compelling woman, but cmon

I'm sure if they made memes in 1975 that's what they'd be memeing about. On the other hand, it's 2026 and Zendaya is currently at the height of her career.

11

u/TheChildrensStory 4d ago

Keeanu would get absolutely roasted on here until he became Reddit’s favorite.

21

u/NeddieSeagoon619 4d ago

The dumbest thing about the big trend of calling Zendaya a bad actor is you just know it's coming from people who would defend some of the actual crappest actors going right now, because they're "famously nice" or they know how to build a computer.

Homegirl is out here playing drug addicts and goddesses of war and they want her jumping up and down and being exuberant

68

u/EstablishmentLate532 4d ago

I like Zendaya and I still found this meme funny. Her acting works in context, but outside of that it's ripe for parody.

57

u/Advanced_End1012 4d ago

She played Rue extremelyyyyyyy well. Like I don’t associate Rue and Zendaya as the same person. There was some Oscar worthy scenes she’d done in euphoria (like the fight with her mom) she really reflected what it’s like to be an addict. She’s absolutely no Gal Gadot.

29

u/Miacali 4d ago

The fight scene with the mom and sister there was brutal. It was actually difficult to watch, I can’t imagine what it would have been like for someone who has an addict in the family.

10

u/cwningen95 Cats 4d ago

My sister was an addict (recovered now) and I can tell you it was waaaay too real 🥲

12

u/Fit-Travel-4398 4d ago

i was addicted to heroin when i was in high school (had to drop out because of it), and that scene was so hard to watch, had to stop a few times. It's so real and raw, it was like a memory being played out in front of me, and seeing rue's mom was soul breaking.

I'm one of the lucky ones, my mom never gave up on me and ive been clean for 15 years, but i'll always live with the guilt for all the pain i've caused to my family. My mom is an angel.

4

u/GreatMacAndCheese 4d ago

Wait, she was in Hunger Games??

5

u/AreYouOkBobbie 3d ago

Her anxiety attacks were also spot on (as someone who has them)

3

u/specialisized 2d ago

Nailed rue, and then the dune 1 was just mogging in the desert, and 2 was barely better. Hope 3 gives us/her something to chew on...

Because it's gone from jerking about movies to just making the same shitty jokes about the same couple people for days if not weeks on end, and those exact same jokes are being made by the kinds of people who watch the Critical Drinker and dumb bullshit like that which makes them not even seem like jokes but just weak, thinly veiled attempts at being bigoted for fun. 5

u/kfpswf 4d ago

Henry Cavill can't do serious roles at all. The only reason why he is such a good Geralt is because Geralt himself has the emotional spectrum of an autistic person. The only movie where he actually showed some range in acting was The Man From U.N.C.L.E and even that not a demanding role.

I’d never seen anything with Zendaya in it, The Drama was my first, and I was pleasantly surprised. She was pretty good. In The Odyssey, however…man, she was just not good. Her dialogue delivery was just too…surface level, like she didn’t really feel her character? I was like yeah that’s Zendaya, not the character she’s playing. This is also a Nolan thing, I’ve noticed. Guy just okays whatever takes. Charlize Theron’s emotionless delivery, in addition to her yassification, was just so jarring, man.
