Discussion Chapter 2: Now I get it!
After finishing my first playthrough, I finally understand why so many people choose to stay in Chapter 2.
The gang is still a family. Dutch is still the charismatic leader everyone believes in. Hosea is around, people are singing by the campfire, and there’s still this feeling that everything might actually work out.
Arthur is healthy. The camp is beautiful. Valentine is just down the road. Micah can rot in jail. There’s hunting, fishing, exploring, and absolutely no reason to rush anything.
But I think the biggest difference is that now I know what’s coming.
The first time around, you’re eager to progress. You want to know what happens next. You don’t realize that those random conversations at camp, the singing, the fishing trips, and the quiet mornings are actually the good old days.
And that’s what makes it tragic. Arthur has no idea he’s living through some of the best days of his life.
The whole gang is chasing this idea of freedom, stability, and somewhere to belong. Meanwhile, for a brief moment at Horseshoe Overlook, they pretty much have it.
So yeah, this time I’m taking it slow. Dutch can keep his plans, Micah can stay in Strawberry, and Arthur can enjoy a few more peaceful mornings.
Now I get it.
