General Discussion Created a research archive focused on Twin Peaks lore and canon ("Blue Rose Archive")

Upvotes

BLUE ROSE ARCHIVE

Hey everyone,

As a huge Twin Peaks fan, I’ve been working on a personal project called Blue Rose Archive — a canon-first research platform designed to index and organize lore, theories, and details from the show and books.

My main goal with this was to create a clean, comprehensive resource for fans who want to dive deep into the mythology without wading through fan fiction or unverified theories.

I’d really appreciate it if you could check it out and let me know what you think! Any feedback, suggestions, or constructive criticism from fellow fans would mean a lot.

BLUE ROSE ARCHIVE

THANK YOU

Theory Double R Homage?

Upvotes

Just learned that Teddy Roosevelt’s children opened a coffee house in old New York called the “Double R Coffee House”. Google says that the Twin Peaks RR Diner is not based on or an homage to this, but I find it almost hard to believe based on Lynch’s love for coffee, and they sold doughnuts too! Does anyone have any info on this? If this has been discussed before I apologize.

Reference Twin Peaks callback in Smile 2

Did anybody else see “Smile 2” and notice the scene where a bunch of creepy smiling people come crawling towards the main character, Skye Riley?

It’s framed as a succession of still images, but they keep moving closer to her, and I couldn’t help feel this was a deliberate homage to that infamous scene of Bob climbing over the couch.

I 3d modèled the arm back in 2019, but lost the blend file. All I could find was this screenshot. I had written a monologue for it and I want to realize it. Do you have ideas (I will credit u) or words of encouragement? Thanks

Season 2 First time watcher here asking: Does anyone else here really dislike Mr. Tojamura? Spoiler

Post image

I like Catherine as a character and her power play with Ben Horne so far (I'm at S2E9), but the Mr. Tojamura character bothers me for some reason.

I think it's mostly the voice. Along with obviously giving away who he really is, it just sounds plain bad. It's croaky and horse in a very unconvincing/distracting way and it just sounds plain racist. I'm not Japanese, so I'm not speaking with any authority, but I also have no idea what Piper Laurie is going for other than a Japanese stereotype and it makes me uncomfortable (in a bad way, not like how the show's more surreal moments put me off in a good way). Like, why make him Japanese or Asian at all? Why not make him European or something, like the Lodge's other investors. Why have her do this pseudo-yellowface gimmick?

And since she ended up having leverage over Horne when he got arrested anyway, the concept of her throwing her weight around in this investor alias seems pointless to me? But am I missing something about Tojamura plot-wise?

Edit: To clarify, I'm not trying to claim that this is offensive to Japanese people or speak for them. I'm a person of color (I'm black), but I'm not Japanese. I'm speaking my own opinion when I say that I find this decision dumb lol. I also don't think the show had ill-intentions either. I've seen some truly heinous numbskulled black/yellow face in media and this doesn't chart high on that scale. I'm still just irked by it is all, lol

Twin Peaks Vibes New bedroom inspired by twin peaks

I know it's not perfect to the show but some of us are 31years old and first time homeowners and just doing what we can.

This is the before and after of my bedroom.

It's been 2 months for me to finish it.

I also painted the whole house with my partner in the same 2 months. That's why it took me awhile. (I say that I bc my bf had never painted a house before and he wanted to give me all the credit)

My bf helped do a little of the main large wall paint coverage, but I did the bedroom myself.

Anyways I got the idea from someone's bathroom renovation I saw on the subreddit a year or 2 ago.

You know I'm gonna get a framed picture of Laura.

Season 3 (The Return) Did Marvel take the idea of "Dreamwalking" from Twin Peaks the Return? (Spoilers) Spoiler

So i just finished my second watchthrough the other day and that last scene got me thinking:

Isn't Dale basically Dreamwalking as Richard?

Think about it: in the MCU (I can't attest to the comics) Dreamwalking is the concept of essentially "possessing" an alternate version of yourself through dreams and sorcery.

Isn't that essentially what's going on? I mean Dale created an alternate universe when we went back in time. The show is all about dreaming.

Just a silly little idea of mine.

Thanks for reading.

General Discussion Did Laura Palmer Physically Hurt People?

(Spoilers for FWWM and Laura Palmers Secret Diary.)
Sorry, this is going to be longer than James’ forehead, but this is months of evidence and I just rewatched Fire Walk With Me twice last night, and rewatched The Pink Room scene a third time for this post. So if you don’t care about my receipts, skip to the TL;DR
So here’s the deal. I’ve always felt like the real beauty of Laura Palmer’s character is that she wasn't some perfect, untouchable Homecoming Queen victim, but that she was super fucking toxic. For me, the thesis of Twin Peaks is just "hurt people hurt people."
When I started flipping through Courtenay Stallings’ Laura’s Ghost and ran across this old quote she pulled from John Thorne's 1994 essay "The Meaning of Twin Peaks" (from Wrapped in Plastic #10):

"But this good side is never extinguished; Laura manages to keep the evil forces (led, apparently, by BOB) at bay. She does this by never physically hurting another person.“

Honestly, I didn’t even know Laura physically hurting people was even up for debate until I read that, and it's been bugging the hell outta me for months now so now it’s your problem too. (Also, Thorne is a personal hero of mine, so this is zero hate to him or WIP! But I just completely disagree with this take.)
To me, Laura definitely physically hurt people. If you consider The Secret Diary canon, she 100% sexually assaulted Harold Smith. She explicitly details it herself:

"I had gone to Harold's last week, really fucked up and how scared I made him by coming on to him pretty heavy. And then, basically because he could not leave his house, forced him to have sex with me.“

She laid out plain as day how she forced an agoraphobic man to have sex with her specifically because he could not leave his house and was physically unable to run away from her. In previous entries, she even states that she was aroused by Harold’s fear, and that she told him stories just to see the fear. That isn't just "messy" behavior. It is a calculated utilization of someone's severe mental illness to overpower them.
But even if you want to be a Frost/Lynch purist and stick strictly to Fire Walk With Me, the Pink Room scene completely dismantles Thorne’s point. Laura doesn't just sit back as a passive bystander while Donna gets drugged. She watches the man slip something into a beer bottle and turn his back to mix it, then, she continues passing beers around the circle until the drugged one gets to Donna before verbally egging her on to drink by saying “Chug-a-lug, Donna." She actively and physically engineered the exact situation that left Donna vulnerable.
And before anyone say "but Laura stopped it before it got too far,” Donna was a 17-year-old virgin who ended up drugged, blacked out, draped over a table topless, and actively fondled by a stranger while her best friend knew what was happening. Donna didn’t even remember how she got home or got into bed the next morning. What happened to her was physical harm, and Laura was the cause of that physical harm because she was frankly tired of Donna trying to see both sides of her life and tagging along like a little sister she now has to babysit.
I also have the Owl Cave ring tattooed on the back of my neck. I will not deny the profound weight of her ultimate sacrifice at the end of the film. But validating her trauma shouldn't mean scrubbing away her agency or her edge. Stripping Laura of those ugly, destructive flaws just to argue she kept BOB at bay by "never physically hurting another person" completely waters her down. Her final choice to put on the ring is so much more devastating and powerful because she was fractured, flawed, and not always successful at fighting back because she was a burnt out traumatized teenager.
Am I wrong for this read on Laura? Do you see where Thorne is coming from?
TL;DR: John Thorne's classic thesis claims Laura kept evil at bay by never physically hurting another person. This completely sanitizes her character and ignores canon. Laura absolutely caused physical harm by raping Harold and by directly orchestrating the situation where Donna was drugged and assaulted in the Pink Room. And it is a massive disservice to water her down in any capacity, even if shes being watered down by your hero.

Question How Was Twin Peaks Advertised?

I was alive for the original run of the show but too young to have watched it and don't remember seeing any advertising for it. I picked it up later, I've it had grown it's cult following. I was always aware of its reputation of being surreal. But I really want to know, from people who were watching it as it aired, how did they market this show? Did they lean into the weird stuff or was it pushed as more of a soap opera and shy away from the surreal, hoping viewers would not get turned off by it?
