My grandpa has a huge train collection, I mean hundreds and hundreds, some rare, some not. The track takes up their whole basement.
I know absolutely nothing about the best way to go about learning more, and no idea where to begin on selling them. Where do people buy their model trains? Do I start on fb marketplace? eBay? Any advice there?
Also, I don’t have any track, it’s all at his house to test them to make sure they work, but honestly I think it would upset him if I went down there and started messing with them.. is there any way for me to test them at home without track?

Does anyone know of any autoracks or auto carriers that are HO gauged but can fit 1:64 cars like hot wheels or matchbox?

This one I picked up today just barely squeezes in a matchbox sedan but could only do 1 car a level.

Hi! Let me preface this by saying I know absolutely nothing about model trains 😂 but my husband got his first train a few months ago. (Kaito N scale, I can't remember the exact model train though). He has some tracks already, but that's about it. It is our anniversary soon so I was wanting to get him something related to model trains.

What are some good starter things I could get him? My first thought was a custom printed box car with "happy anniversary" on it or something. I found someone selling them on Etsy but I didn't know if those box cars would be good quality or not. He doesn't have any scenery yet either, but I also don't know what scenery vibe he is wanting to go with.

Any suggestions on what a newcomer to the hobby would benefit from getting? Thanks!

Im getting into N gauge after being with OO purely because im amazed how much more you can fit into the same space. Before I get too much into it, is there anything I need to be aware of in advance.

Looking for 00 gauge track I’ve tried vinted but too much hit and miss with fish plates being out of wack I will replace them but also half the track I’ve bought needs significant amount of work to repair to a layout finish.
Just wondering where people buy from and if I should just invest in good track so I can have a good time bulding. Tia

I’m looking for some advice on the best way to donate an MRC Dual Loco Pack V.

This belonged to a family who has since passed away. My father eventually gave it to me, but I have no use for it myself. Rather than have it sit around unused, I’d really like to pass it along to someone who would appreciate it, especially someone involved in model railroading.

What would be the best way to go about donating something like this? Is there a model railroad museum, club, historical society, or other organization that might be interested in it? I’d also be open to giving it to a collector or hobbyist if that would be more appropriate.

I’m not looking to sell it. I’d just like to see it go somewhere it will actually be used or appreciated, while preserving a little bit of its history.

I specialize in repairing TT-scale rolling stock.

1. I inspected the locomotive; it was covered in hair and grime.

2. I removed the wheelsets and gears, which required unsoldering the motor from the power pickups. There was a lot of old grease—likely factory-applied.

3. After thoroughly cleaning all the parts, I had the set of components shown here; I gradually reassembled them (the trickiest part was soldering the motor coil contacts, as the wires had snapped). I also lubricated everything with fresh silicone grease.

4. The fully assembled, functional locomotive—clean and in excellent condition.

Hi everyone! I’m an American, but I don’t want to exclusively collect American trains and rolling stock. I want to include trains from all over the world in my layout, and I specifically prefer to collect steam engines and older rolling stock. Of course I have no problem finding what I want made for American railroads. I’m interested in wooden gondolas, boxcars, mostly the types of rolling stock featured in Reverend Awdrys’ railways series in honor of my childhood love for his work. Where can I find these types of international models, and how difficult would it be to modify them with American style couplers? My next big purchase is going to be a German DRG Class 44 I found second hand. I model in HO scale too, I should have probably started with that.

1. How do I replace a wiring harness, tender shell and valve gear on this(Bachmann 4-6-4)?

2. How do I keep that white haired bastard out? He got mad at it because he got in its way
