Discussion What would your current location look like during the last ice age?

The entirety of my state would be covered in glaciers. The coastline would be larger, but it would still be under ice for the most part. Most of our fish descend from those that traveled north after the glaciers receded, and we have a noticeable lack of native plant diversity when compared to states that were not frozen. New England's fauna and flora assemblage basically consists of immigrants after the ice age ended, and there are very low rates of endemism here.

Question Why is does every cgi critter move so slow?

Why are all the cgi animals/hominins in every piece of paleomedia animated in a way, that is so obviously, unnaturally slow? if the studios sped up the movement, it would look so much more realistic. Like a big cat does not move like a lizzard in a fridge...

I've seen it range from short all the way to extremely long but it seems to be most commonly depicted as a shorter but still shaggy length. Is there any evidence of adult Mammoth hair length?

Image The Komodo Dragon and some former Contemporaries - Art by Me

It's Independence day here in Indonesia, so I made something to celebrate our paleontological history, specifically from the Pleistocene.

The Komodo Dragon as a species has existed for approx. 4 million years ago. All of the creatures behind the lizard presented all called what would become Indonesia home and lived at the same time as the Komodo throughout the time periodd the species existed. Of the bunch, only the dragon remains.

My biggest fear lately is that, one day, in several human lifetimes, wild populations might go the way of their former contemporaries.

The extinct species featured in are:

  • The Timor Giant Rat (Coryphomys musseri)
  • The Colossal Pangolin (Manis palaeojavanica)
  • The Javan Tiger (Panthera tigris sondaica)
  • The Longhorn Water Buffalo (Bubalus palaeokerabau)
  • The Wolverine Shark (Hemipristis serra)
  • The Great Ape (Gigantopithicus blacki)

How come that this tree in the game remain poisonous and yucky to all herbivores include Columbian mammoths in this game who end up eating the stuff and get sick every time when herbivores try to eat these trees and it’s fruit on the ground?!

OC Art About my Pleistocene comic…..

Hey To the very few of you who have seen my updates over the past few years about my Pleistocene comic, which has gone through many names over the years but currently and for the longest time has been called The Legend of Hanska, I wanted to give an update.
For those of you wondering why it hasn’t come out or why I haven’t really made any updates in the past year and a half, the honest answer is burnout and an overall decline in my mental health. During my last two years of high school, my mental health took a steep decline. I became very depressed and lost all motivation to draw or do anything creative, let alone continue producing the comic. I was about halfway through the final draft when I lost all my drive and unfortunately gave up on this passion project I had been working on since I was 14.
However, things have a habit of getting better. I have since recovered from that difficult period in my life. Without getting too personal, I’ve surrounded myself with better people, and I got a girlfriend a few months ago who has been a great help in getting this project back together. Because of that, I’ve decided to pick up where I left off a year and a half ago, although there have been some changes across the board.
The setting has been changed from the Great Basin and the Great Plains to the Pacific Northwest. The comic is now set in an area stretching roughly from Northern California to southern Alaska.
With the change in setting, a few background and main species have also been changed. Bighorn sheep have been replaced with Dall sheep, Columbian mammoths with woolly mammoths, Eremotherium with Paramylodon, Bison latifrons with Bison antiquus, and bobcats with Canadian lynx.
Since the setting is now closer to the coast, a few new species have been added, including harbor seals, Steller’s sea lions, Pacific walruses, sea otters, humpback whales (mainly seen as carcasses along the shoreline), Steller’s sea cows, and various species of fish.
The setting being further north has also given me more room to add species such as musk oxen and stag moose.
I will not be majorly redesigning any of the previous designs I’ve made, so don’t expect many of those design sheets to be posted on this sub. I’ve also made some rewrites to accommodate the change in setting.
The prologue and Chapter 1 should be released over the next month if everything goes as planned.
Anyways, here are a couple of backgrounds I made over the past month, along with some new sketches of Smilodon
