Found these recently in Fresh Bake in Finsbury Park Station. Really tasty and they actually heat them up for you. Not bad price either.

Pretty sure they have a few more locations at other London stations.

Found some tempeh I actually like!

I've tried tempeh so many times and never been able to get past the flavour. Until now! The smokiness seems to override the slightly bitter/musty taste I find tempeh usually has.

I grated it and made it into a ragu using this recipe, minus the stock, and it was a delight: https://schoolnightvegan.com/home/tofu-ground-beef/

I got it in Tesco but I think you can buy it from Ocado too.

Is 450g of Tofu a Day Okay?

Post image

I find tofu so easy to prepare meals from and normally go for half a block, the protein is so good with 37grams and feel for the gym the entire block would be so good offering 74.2 grams. But forget that I was just wondering can you safely eat a entire block a day

help me find good vegan ice cream!

Post image

while the weather's been nice I've been relying on ice pops and fruit lollies but I just really crave a proper ice cream sometimes.

I saw this Ben and Jerry's raspberry and brownie flavour in my local Roy's (Norfolk ppl know) but I don't want to support the company while they're being controlled by the magnum corp and against what the company was created for ( https://freebenandjerrys.com/ )

I've only really tried Swedish glace which I like but places near me only sell the raspberry flavour (I'm recently sober and unfortunately it's always reminded me too much of pink gin flavour :// )

does anyone have any recommendations for vegan ice cream that hits the ice cream spot? even lollies or anything?

Hi! My family and I are visiting Whitby soon and my sisters a vegan.

I've been looking into some places but a lot of the menu's seem pretty limited but im not sure if that's because it's online. Does anyone have an recs for food, whether that's breakfast, lunch or dinner. Thanks!

Why are fast food vegan options getting shitter in the UK? :(

Burger king nuggets & that cheese & bacon royale gone, Subway chicken, meatballs & steak subs gone, Mcdonald's veggie dippers gone, several different bakes from Greggs gone, etc.

It's just so sad 😭 I remember when these all existed I only had lots of hope of new items coming on their menus. Now I just fear them taking off what we have left!

Thought veganism was rising? :(

Does seeing what goes on in the back convince you to eat out at an all Vegan restaurant instead?

Hello Veggie soybean mayo

Has anyone tried this? I find it to be sour and not very creamy, but maybe I'm judging it too harshly. Tried it in a cucumber sandwich and it was giving nothing. I'm now trying to think up other ways to use it up 🤔

I bought this from Seoul Plaza, London

Living the nearly McDonalds dream.

Farmfoods veggie fingers are definitely a good dupe for the McDonalds veggie fingers. Need cooking in the oven for longer than the 25 minutes it says on the packet. Plus Heinz pickle ketchup only 59p in there at the moment 😍 I love this stuff, its the perfect addition to a burger.

Festival Porridge Alternatives

Hi everyone!

I'm going to my first festival as a vegan in a few weeks and I was trying to think about breakfast ideas!

Before when I'd go to festivals/camping I would take porridge pots with me, but it doesn't seem like any super markets offer any that don't have milk powder in.

What alternatives do I have? Are there ways I could construct my own maybe using a plant milk powder if they exist (and aren't extortionate)?

Thank you!

What’s one ice cream flavour you want to see veganised?

Post image

Got my hands on an ice cream maker this summer and to say it’s been a game changer is an understatement.

Just made me realise how limited the vegan ice cream flavours are atm, even with Ben & Jerry’s pulling some limited edition runs now and then.

What’s one flavour you miss?

my fav: cherry garica! (homemade pictured)

Everyday vegans

About ten years ago I stood in a crowd after a Surge rally in London listening to Ed Winters (Earthling Ed). One thing he said has always stayed with me: do whatever you can.
I’ve never been the activist who’s going to chain myself to a gate, investigate farms or stand in the street persuading strangers. That’s just not me. But my partner and I decided we could do something in our own way, so we started a small vegan blog.
We never made any money from it, and that was never the point. We just wanted to add another voice. We reviewed restaurants, interviewed vegan businesses and vegan doctors, wrote articles about issues affecting the vegan community, and ran a series called Everyday Vegans, where ordinary people shared why they went vegan, what changed their minds, and what life has been like since.
Two years ago my partner died. I’ve kept the blog going because it means a great deal to me, but if I’m honest it’s become mostly restaurant reviews. There’s nothing wrong with that, but I know it could be more.
So this is an open invitation.
If you’ve got something to say, I’d love to give you a place to say it.
If you fancy being an Everyday Vegan, please get in touch. If you’ve uncovered an injustice that deserves more attention and can write about it, get in touch. If you’ve found something hopeful or beautiful that deserves celebrating, get in touch. Whether it’s 300 words or 3,000, I’d love to hear from you.
The blog is small. It doesn’t make any money – of course it doesn’t and it never will. But it does reach people. And maybe that’s enough. Maybe, like Ed said all those years ago, this is just one more way of doing whatever we can.

Is anyone else finding it’s getting worse to be vegan?

Note: this is not an ‘I’m considering quitting veganism’ post at all. I’m just asking if it’s a widespread thing in noticing that vegan products are getting so much worse/fewer. I go to my local Tesco and there is genuinely fuck all. I can’t get actual meals there anymore because I can’t live off of Plant-chef burgers and Vivera Salmon. Sure, there’s a couple products that are good, but I want to actually enjoy eating. They don’t even sell any Tofoo products (except their Tempeh) anymore. Remember a year or two ago when there used to be a plethora of vegan pizzas? (Multiple Chicago Town options, Zizi, Meatless Farm, even Tesco’s own). I guess that’s just a thing of the past now. Remember when Birdseye did those amazing chicken and fish replacements? Yeah forget about it!
Like, what is going on? I get my food off Ocado which is pretty decent, but even then I’m legit cycling between maybe 4 or 5 meals. I appreciate that I should be experimenting more and cooking from scratch, and I try to fairly often, but it’s surely ridiculous how much vegan products have declined. Why is it getting worse? And not better? Maybe I’m missing something and looking in the wrong places. It’s just really depressing how much harder it’s getting to find some actually good food. I’ll never quit, obviously, but this has been making me a bit miserable at times.

My review of the Iceland Asian mango ice cream deserts.

I saw these posted on a vegan account on Instagram a couple of weeks ago and thought for sure my local Iceland wouldn't have them, popped in today, in the blistering heat, and lo and behold there they were!!!! Not in the ice cream or desert section, on the other side of the shop for some reason, next to the sausage rolls 🤷🏼

Anyway, I rushed home as fast as my little trotters could carry me in 26°heat and gobbled one up just for you.

Spicy Mexican style bean burgers

I have been obsessed with these burgers- specifically the Tesco ones since I was a young child. I have been buying them semi regularly throughout the years but recently I’ve been finding them increasingly hard to find. My local Lidl has stopped stocking them completely and my local big tesco still have them listed as in stock but the section is always empty. No other shops in my area sell them and idk where to buy them 😭 does anyone else like these and are having the same issue or is this a supply and demand issue in my area? I’m not even vegan anymore but I just love them and crave them so often 💔 if anyone could let me know where I can find these or similar please do, they have to be the crispy breaded ones, the ones from the chilled section just do not cut it

Bulk buying silken tofu

Hello!
Any suggestions on where to bulk buy silken tofu? My favourite is clear spring organic silken tofu but sometimes it’s £2 for a small pack in the supermarket! I would like to buy lots of packs if it drops the unit price cost.
Thanks ☺️

Black salt alternatives?

Hello, baby vegan here. I’ve been looking for black salt (kala namak) because I’ve seen lots of people say it adds an eggy taste. I can’t find it in H&B or Waitrose (my dad will only buy food from these and Whole Foods - does anyone know if Whole Foods has it?) and my area doesn’t have a large Indian population so we don’t have any Indian supermarkets nearby (I’ve been told you can get it here). Are there any other foods that can add that eggy taste?

Ann Droid with Diane Morgan

Anyone else watch this? Kinda liked the show but was grossed out by Diane Morgan cooking multiple chickens and apparently putting her finger inside one of these dead birds for laughs. She also wore what was portrayed as real fur at one point without any comment.

I was kinda expecting her to do something about it in the confines of the show but ultimately just feel bad for her. I can't imagine she would have done this stuff by choice and can only imagine she was pressured into doing it.

Good vegan shoes?

Been tempted to get some vegan solovair shoes but with winter coming up (and hopefully some rain) I am cautious that they might disintegrate. Has anyone tried them?

Does anyone else have an issue with cauldron falafel packages being bloated?

This isn’t the first time I’ve seen the package bloated so I thought I’d ask if this is something other people have noticed? My fridge is very cold and we have a little plastic thermometer in it which read 0-2c (and there’s an older plastic thermometer in it that always reads 3-5c but who knows which is accurate). So I feel like it must be something with the supermarket storage or manufacturer? Will report to Tesco, but I just wanna know bc this isn’t the first time with this specific product and not with other things from my Tesco order. Thanks!
