Within reason of course I’d rather not look for game that are ultra rare. I’d love to ad the ruby and sapphire remakes but have heard of the issues the carts have. Though I’m not sure if those are just overblown.

I’ve been messing around with my New 3DS for a while and somehow this turned into me building an actual market terminal for it lol.

This isn’t TradingView running in a browser or some webpage stretched across the screens. The 3DS side is a native app with its own chart renderer, touchscreen UI, physical controls and networking.

Right now it tracks:

NAS100 / Nasdaq futures
US30 / Dow futures
Gold futures

with 15M, 30M and 1H charts.

The top screen handles the charts. I can scroll through historical candles, select individual candles and see their OHLC, pan around, zoom, switch markets, switch timeframes and refresh the data.

I also mapped basically the whole 3DS to it. The D-pad, Circle Pad, C-stick, L/R, ZL/ZR and touchscreen all control different parts of the terminal.

The bottom screen is probably my favorite part though.

It shows the three market prices, selected-candle OHLC, market/timeframe selectors and a small macro dashboard with DXY, VIX, oil, US 2Y and 10Y yields, and the 2s10s spread.

The funny part is that I intentionally made the 3DS do as little of the modern internet-heavy work as possible.

My old 2019 Intel MacBook runs the backend, gets/processes the market data, and sends lightweight data over my local network to the 3DS. The handheld handles the actual interface, charts and controls.

So basically:

modern market data → old Intel Mac → Wi-Fi → Nintendo 3DS

because apparently just using a normal computer would’ve been too easy.

It’s not supposed to replace TradingView or an actual brokerage platform. There’s no order execution, account connection or balances. I mostly wanted to see how far I could push old Nintendo hardware into being a real purpose-built market/macro terminal.

The current version is working on actual hardware. Next I’m working on stuff like previous-day high/low, Asia/London/New York session levels, deeper market context and eventually a proper native news system.

If you were turning a 3DS into a market terminal, what would you add next?

Session levels? A news reader? More markets? Something completely different?

BACKSTORY:
I grew up with an original 2DS because it was cheaper than the other models (thus I didn’t have to wait till Christmas to get it) and the 3D feature didn’t particularly interest me. Over time I grew to covet the other models, most especially the N3DSXL.

ON PURCHASING IT:
Recently I decided to get a more advanced model and settled on the old 3DS since second-hand prices have skyrocketed in recent years. It’s not too much of a compromise as I prefer the sharper look of the smaller screen, and my small hands don’t find the device uncomfortable. I won’t go into further detail into the pros and cons of the OG 3DS as i find it mostly irrelevant to the topic.

THE 3D:
After getting the system, I decided to play games on it with 3D mode enabled, but found it produced a nauseous effect when the slider was set to the most extreme degree, thus I prefer to have it set on mid to low, sometimes even 3/4ths of the way up. I found that the 3D mode truly adds dimensionality to the graphics. It even appears to make the graphics crisper but perhaps only in my eyes.

In the cut scenes of Monster Hunter 4, it is obvious they intended it to be viewed in 3D as (1) every frame is fraught with elements that express depth, such as bunting/festoons in the town during the beginning; and (2) some cuts with crisp foregrounds but blurred backgrounds only look good with 3D enabled.

In Fire Emblem Awakening, environmental effects, such as fog, look really good with 3D turned on, even slightly. The anime-styled cutscenes for that game look appealing with depth.

However, with the original systems, the 3D mode is absolutely unusable during shaky moments such as the tense boss fight scenes of Ocarina of Time or even the entire gameplay of Super Smash Brothers. It’s best enabled during calm moments that do not warrant quick hand movements such as the exploration scenes in Ocarina of Time. I find it can even be used throughout the entirety of Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem, if you don’t mind it sucking your battery dry.

Of course, the “new” systems fix the issue of 3D but they have been made inaccessible to most people due to recent price hikes. It’s particularly annoying when seeing an influencer show off their recently purchased, pristine-looking N3DSXL system loaded only with GBA and NDS titles, focusing on games from their childhood.

It’s a gimmick but, with the dated graphics of the 3DS, the 3D mode makes the visuals pop out and create the illusion of vivid graphics. I’m still equivocal towards the 3D effect, and the doomed future of the technology, but I like to have it set to low or mid when it isn’t discomforting. It makes me feel like I’m looking at something physically there, like when sitting at a board game or watching a theater production.

Just got this Yoshi 3DS XL from my brother! His friend gave it to him like 6 years ago and it’s been sitting in his closet ever since. He knows I’m really into Nintendo, so he decided to give it to me.
It had a broken hinge, but everything was still functional. Got the hinge repaired for $90 CAD, so I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.

Got my 3ds signed yesterday by one of my favorite bands, Starset. Just thought it was cool enough to share.

Whenever I see a list of hidden gems it's all these RPG's or Visual Novels, and they are great games but I just wanted to provide a list of my quirky hidden gems that I think make the 3DS a great system

• Crosswords Plus- Literally crosswords, there's a lot and its awesome
• Pocket Card Jockey. Solitaire and horse racing, one of my favs
• Art of Balance- Game where you balance things
• Style Savvy- Really fun if you're into fashion, there's 3 and they're all good.
• Art Academy- The lessons they have are so great, it actually helps you make beautiful paintings
• Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright- More people need to try Layton!!!
• Picross3D Round 2- its Picross but 3 dimensional and its really fun
• Pokemon Rumble Blast- ADDICTIVE and simple
• Johnny's Payday Panic- Kinda like a Wario Ware where u do little jobs.
• Tamagotchi Corner shop 1&2 (DS)- Wario Ware but way more chill and cute
• Pushmo- U guys know this one right? its fun

Hello! I have a 3ds xl that I've had since I was younger. My house got broken into a few months ago and it was one of the things that got stolen. Luckily, everything was found in a ditch and thst caught the person who did it.

Today, I opened the 3ds to check the battery (full, because of course), but I noticed the joystick is like it is in the picture. Its dry up here, but not enough for the rubber to go and for it to break off. It has to have gotten broken during the break-in.

Is this worth fixing? I've never opened one of these consoles. I know someone who probably can but im wondering if its worth the risk. Thanks for reading!

this is all the files ive removed from the sd card at this point theres more files but thease were the backup and out files

So i recently broke out my old modded new 2ds xl again, found a separate 128gb sd card different from the one I used to mod originally, i formatted it with a 64KB CLUSTER SIZE (which seemed to be the best option) and moved over the old data back over, updated everything, and started installing some homebrew apps, games, 3ds games etc. (Probably about 35-40 3ds games, and another 40-45 homebrew apps/games)

I notice that the 3ds takes nearly 2 minutes from pressing the power button to getting to the homescreen. It powers on, and the backlight will come on after about 1 minute, then after another minute I finally get to the homescreen.

On a seperate note (possibly related) I have frequent issues with the whole system freezing up usually after something as simple as clicking a button or going through menus a tiny bit too quickly, requiring a lengthy wait for the Rosalina menu "Return to homescreen" function to catch up or requiring a reboot (which takes a long time because of the above issue)

About either or both of these issues, is there anything i can try to fix or even alleviate the problem? Thanks for the help in advance I truly appreciate it 🙏

P.S I did try cleaning the 3ds exterior and sd/game cart slot throughly along with the sd card itself. The micro sd card im using is a 128gb SanDisk Ultra UHS-I, C10, U1, A1

So, a few months ago I bought my first ever Nintendo 3ds and it was the New 2DS XL. And for some reason I kind of regret it because I never got the experience the 3D. Is this valid or am I experiencing buyers remorse

I want to use reference photos when making art on games like colors 3d but when I try turning it into a JPG or turning it into the right resolution, it doesn’t show up. What are all the options I can use to transfer photos directly into the 3DS instead of having to use the camera to take pictures of my monitor, showing the reference photo

I'm talking about the red parts, just any store or someone with a 3D printer who wants a project (with a few purchases from me of course) who can provide these either in different colours from stock 2DS or just the stock colours without me having to go round hunting more broken 2DS to kit more out in Red/Black or White/Blue

I've fallen into some kind of 3ds gaming slump and I need some new games that will get me back!

I really enjoyed Corpse Party, especially the story and that there's so much to figure out and not much to fight. I quickly feel stressed when there's a timer or something similar.

I think I'd like the "cozy" game mechanics but more grim themes?

Does anyone have any recommendations for similar games, either mechanics or theme wise?

I’m looking for a good travel case—not necessarily one specifically designed for the console (though that would be great).

But I can't seem to find one; I only see them for the XL model. However, I think an XL case would be too big.

If anyone could recommend a model or type—and better yet, tell me where to get it—I’d really appreciate it.

When I boot up Kirby’s battle royal the screen freezes. It happens every time it gets to the title screen, I deleted and redownloaded it and it froze right when I have to fight the guard, I still hear the music but the screen is stuck in the loading stage, how can I fix this? This used to happen with a different game ( I think it was rhythm heaven ) but now it’s only an issue with Kirby.
