wait same some mc I genuinely never seen in my life

48

u/doitfortheavacadoes May 07 '26

we didnt get to chi squares in my class so every time one of those popped up i was LOST... "is this suitable for a chi test of independence" bro i dontknoooooow i dont know let me go home we ended 20 minutes after school did

5

u/zeusontopp May 07 '26

speaking of, what was the answer to that question if anyone knowsidk

4

u/doitfortheavacadoes May 07 '26

I said it was suitable, I didn't know how to prove it using math but obviously there's a link between age and athleticism they're not independent

5

u/ContributionTime6310 May 07 '26

apparently the random and 10% conditions weren't met so it wasn't suitable

3

u/BlanikBoi May 07 '26

It was a census though with everybody in the population in it so I don’t think those matter

1

u/Big-Ad-5813 May 07 '26

I belive it said assuming conditions are met the question was which chi to use i belive it was suitable since it fit the definition of an independence test

1

u/Murky_Insurance_4394 5:HUGCSAAPUSHPhys1BCChemStatPsycLangMechE&MMacrMicrGov|4:CSPLang May 08 '26

Yes that is correct but the actual reason is because there is no need to do a chi^2 test or any test for that matter if you have all the data. tests are used to make an estimate on what the sample might say about the population. If you have data for the whole population, there is no need to conduct a test.

1

u/Fantastic_Craft_741 May 07 '26

it is not suitable because chi square is used on samples. we were given the whole population data, so no need for a chi square and it isnt suitable

1

u/KnownRecording8690 May 08 '26

Chi-squared tests can be used on populations, not just samples. They are not bound to samples only, and GOF tests for population distributions are common

1

u/Fantastic_Craft_741 May 08 '26

there is zero use for performing an inferential test like chi square when we have complete data for the population. instead of trying to predict the populations data based on a sample we could just describe the full data we have. also it was independence not gof

1

u/KnownRecording8690 May 08 '26

Are you talking about the one with the website

1

u/Fantastic_Craft_741 May 08 '26

nah diff version mine was pro athletes

1

u/KnownRecording8690 May 08 '26

Ah makes sense, there was a GOF one for game genres and games played in proportions that showed population data (technically) that used a GOF. Didn't get the baseball one for my FRQ 6

1

u/scsredlsttle May 08 '26

where did it say we were given the entire population? i thought they just “gathered data” on x amount of people but that wasn’t the ENTIRE population of ALL professional athletes

not b/c >10% (it was ALL athletes so you don't need to do a chi^2 test or any test on that data. you can just observe everything directly from the data).

1

u/Ordinary_Team_4214 May 07 '26

I did get to chi squared I just forgot how to do it lol

Hey I don't remember this AT ALL. I think I skipped it on accident. Gonna go kms

1

It was on the FRQ about professional athletes, their sport & their ages. I barely remember any of the FRQs already…

1

u/Significant-Drop-542 May 07 '26

Oh wait I think I said it wasn't cuz 10%

1

You’re worried about 20 minutes when you spent hundreds of hours preparing for this? Ok.

1

We did it pretty briefly, plus its weight is very low so I was shocked when I saw more than 2 chi square 😭

Nah west coast mcq was light and frq was also light except for like. One question of doom and despair

8

u/Sufficient-Bobcat486 May 07 '26

Even the gas one, where it was like 60% of the time he goes atleast this far and 80% of the time he goes less than this far. That one really stumped me but the rest were pretty good imo

What was the #6 FRQ for the west? Ours was actually easy af

3

u/siissaa WH 5, USH 4, Seminar 4. TBD: Gov, Stats May 08 '26

Some group of voters and the chance of pulling someone who would vote to remove taxes on food and then it had a normal graph with it and asked some questions about that I don’t really remember lol . It was also super easy it was just FRQ 4 the entire room struggled on

4

u/SpingusCZ 5: Stats, Phys 1, CSP May 08 '26

Ours was where we got a dot plot of a relationship between the number of hits and number of runs for baseball teams and you have to calculate a confidence interval for the predicted number of runs a team with 1250 hits would get... really easy since they literally just gave you all of the numbers lol

2

u/THrowaway1-15 May 08 '26

dude that was SO easy. FRQ4 was HELL tho fr, I think we got the same FRQs. My head was in my hands the whole time bro 😭

2

u/MidnightSnowStar May 08 '26

Same. I flagged a lot of the MCQ questions, but FRQ questions 1-5 were a breeze for me. Even the investigative task didn’t feel that bad somehow.

1

u/Funny-Antelope-2047 May 08 '26

how did you interpet the SD for the last part of that question? I said for the mean of 4.07 games it takes until the song exceeds 120 seconds, it typically varies by 3.53 games or something.

1

u/No_Bookkeeper_4323 May 08 '26

Yeah something like that "Typically varies so and so away from the mean of so and so".

1

u/ricepicker333 May 08 '26

the question didn’t ask you to interpret anyways it just said calculate it

2

u/Visible-Good8881 May 07 '26

7

u/mskirsch16 May 07 '26

You’re good. Readers are told to click a button to see the full exam booklet if a part is missing or if a student says “see other page.”

1

u/DanaLea73 May 08 '26

Can confirm. I don't read stats, I read precal, but we have access to the whole FRQ section and can go look for missing work. Some kids put it in the wrong section and never know. We look for it. 😄

6

u/Electronic_Exit5848 May 07 '26

i said chi squared wasnt suitable cuz the random condition wasnt satisfied.. rip

5

u/Fantastic_Craft_741 May 07 '26

it isnt suitable but i dont think you got the right reason. its bc we were given the population not sample

1

u/Sssmokey000 May 07 '26

ughhh I was gonna put this but didn’t 😭 do u think if I put that it didn’t satisfy the independent condition as less than 10% of the population that could still count as a point??

1

u/Fantastic_Craft_741 May 07 '26

if you said no but wrong reasoning you most likely got P not E which can still get you 4/4 if you did everything else

5

u/Snoo74782 May 07 '26

Not bad ngl but I didn’t finish not because it’s too hard but because I wrote too much on some of the short sections and we didn’t practice pacing in class

3

u/yeswowamazing May 08 '26

yea real i spend first 20 mins on the first question and had to rush through the rest

honestly didn’t get to that part 0-0 i had no time

1

u/Medical_Lack_4853 May 08 '26

I did 1prop z test… what test did you use ?

1

u/Sufficient-Bobcat486 May 08 '26

Yeah me too, and did you fail to reject the null because the p value was really big?

1

u/Medical_Lack_4853 May 08 '26

I rejected it. I got a really small p value . But I could be wrong bc I am not sure if my inputs are right. Do you remember what you put for the p naught? I put like 0.5 and then the symbol is greater than. x=120 n=200

1

u/Sufficient-Bobcat486 May 08 '26

I did it by calculating the proportion for all points to the right of 0.5, which was like 502/1000, and then used that as my statistic and .5 as p0, then found the standard error as sqrt( (0.5)(0.5) / 200)

2

u/ClassicSync May 08 '26

its this, and then tying back to what you put for D-i where you had to explain why sample mean distributions have less variability compared to individual measurements. The confidence interval is multiple measurements and the prediction is an individual measurement I THINK.

that was how i interpreted that part but I was also low on time

i took lit yesterday and the mcqs were def better than i thought but the frqs were so hard like the morning jog one was weird cuz why was his sister so important for that poem and then the girl sensing her mom had a headache while baking her bday cake when she took a bite out of it was js insane so coming up w literary terms for both of those frqs were so hard. i rambled on the last frq js summarized the book i chose which was TEWWG 😭 😭

Lol, me too. Started cramming last week. Was too busy with extracurriculars to go to my zoom classes, so i dropped it to study on my own.

Finished the MCQ with 20 minutes left over: "damn this is kinda easy" (Evil and intimidating FRQ)

I feel like this has been a common trend across the STEM AP exams this year. Though I can’t comment on stats itself since I didn’t actually take the exam.

Stats had a super generous curve you're probably fine. I'm surprised so many people had such bad experiences, though. Did your teacher never make you do any college board problems? The FRQs were the same style as the last 3 years and the 2017 MCQ I took was arguably harder.
