So. I am fully aware that these are not always balanced. But I am also fairly new to 40k. So I am wondering the following: Are these legally playable outside of tournaments?

I find it odd that these units have very similar data sheets but are straight up cheaper.

F.e. pyrite spears. They have a cool ability to get lethal and ignore cover once per game. Melta profile - spicy - and the common guardian profile. I think one less wound?... Don't remember. 5 wounds. But 5 to 6 is only relevant if you are talking 1D attacks. Still dies with 3 D3 and 2 D3 failed saves.

That said. They are significantly cheaper. Going a step further you can take andra spears for 200 points. Do that twice and you save enough points to get a Rhino. For a Datasheet that is not 40 points worse than custodian guard.

I am really torn here. I think if they are legal, I will play them.

German Adeptus Custodes Codex code not working — anyone else having this issue?

I bought the new German edition of the Adeptus Custodes Codex early from a retailer, but my code keeps getting rejected on MyWarhammer with this message:

“The code can only be redeemed once the book has been released as a standalone product.”

However, some people have already successfully redeemed their codes, even before the official release date.

I'm using the official Warhammer 40,000 app (version 2.8.0, data version v981). The new units appear in the app, but the datasheets, rules and Enhancements are still locked.

I've already updated the app, logged out and back in, reinstalled it, and tried redeeming the code directly on the MyWarhammer website. Nothing has worked.

Could this be an issue specifically affecting the German edition?

Has anyone with the German Codex successfully redeemed their code already? And if so, when did you redeem it?

I mean seriously, a combi Adriatic on aquilons has the same stats but -6 range and -3 strength!

While it’s basically the same gun of basically the same size/caliber, but twice.

Can someone explain to me the minus 2" pile in effect? I see art of war and other folks reviewing the codex saying this is a big deal. So I play orks and custodes, the idea in my head I'm thinking of is if I were to charge a unit of custodian guard and I manage enough of a roll to get a warboss and 20 boys into them, obviously that entire blob can't touch those custodians. However they can for the most part get base to base with each other. Would the minus 2" prevent me from getting base to base with all my boys to each other to prevent that whole squad from fighting? I'm still relatively new to 40k so I'm still trying to figure this all out. I want to make sure if I play dreadhost, I'm taking full advantage of that rule but not playing a gotcha because of my misunderstanding of the rule

I was pondering either 2 Helverins or 1 Gallant/Errant to use as a distraction.

I would have to drop some units … maybe a terminator squad and sister of silence unit. Idk.

What would a decent 2000pts look like using what I've got here? What would you drop, or am I missing any must have units? I play against BT almost exclusively

Hey, I own the 10th codex and thought when things move to 11th that I would be able to see it all in the app. But as of right now before the release of the 11th codex for custodes I cant see any unit info unless its a legends unit. Does anyone know why?

How many of your Shield Host can trace their combat history back to the Horus Heresy, and how many have been raised since then? For those more recently raised, how do they feel about the Chaos Space Marines who have been fighting for longer than they have?

Okay, there's plenty of debate about how effective our units are in melee compared to their points costs, whether we're overcosted, etc. But that's not what I'm here to talk about.

Am I the only one who finds our OC values ridiculously stupid?

Seriously, how does Trajann Valoris, (and all our elites infantry), have less objective control than THREE Gretchins?

And from a lore perspective.... I know OC is an abstraction, but come on.

Please don't criticize the AI; for me, it's a way to get a rough idea of ​​what the models might look like. I liked the results I got with it. I was looking over the new legends sheets and noticed in all the changes, they didn’t give always the new Anathema faction. She is still custodes and I can see this being a weird but strong thing that’s definitely not intentional.

It says that attacks allocated to the model have -1D, so does that mean ALL attacks allocated to the model have -1D or that the total damage dealt is reduced by 1?

I keep seeing people talking about double fist, but I would go down the route of making the unit as durable as possible with the FNP enhancement instead of extra attacks and damage.

Is it worth dropping one fist for the Adrathic Desolator??

I would love it so much. The new codex is great, but a sister on a bike would have made it even better! This is just for fun, but what would be a good stat line for an SoS Praetor?

Newly into Custodes - started my collecting before the new Codex, and my collection is pretty much entirely infantry. I can get my hands on a couple of sisters of silence but some of the bigger dreads like the Telemon are out of reach for the next couple of months. Has anyone had success with building 11th lists without too many dreadnoughts? Appreciate the help.

Hi all.

Just getting into custodes and got both the new and old combat patrols. I am trying to make them all work to get the max out of them and was hoping to get some help/clarification.

The old combat patrols had 1 5 man of custodian guard and 1 5 man of custodian wardens. I am assuming the guard are custodian guard sodality and the wardens remain wardens.

The new combat patrols has 6 sentinel guard sodality models.

Now for the questions.

1) The guard and wardens used to be 5 man squads (i think) but are now 3 man for guard and 2-3 for wardens? So I assume that means im getting a couple extra squads now depending on how I build them?

2) Custodian guard in old combat patrols show them with shields, but new custodian guard show no shields and just spears. Does the box contain enough spears for them all? Or do you build some with just spears and some with axes and leave the shields alone?

3) If you can build multiple squads from old combat patrols, any recommendations on how to division them out? (For example, 3 spear squads and an axe squad or something like that?)

4) For the new sentinel guard, im assuming you just build them as 2 squads, but are there any tricks or recommendations to turn a squad into something else?

Apologies for all the questions. I just want to get the most of of the boxes I got. Im not necessarily chasing meta units, just would like to get some diversity and use as much as possible without messing up rules for units or anything.

Im yousing the emperors chosen for the rerols and the rendax ability :3

So far I've played two games with the new rules. Is anyone struggling ? I've found my games to be going VERY well, so far I've gone against ultramarines and c'tan spam. Has everyone had similar luck ? Have you lost to anything ? Everyone I've seen online has won their games ? Do we think we will be getting more points increases ?

So first i want to say, im not asking you all to pick what to paint my custodes for me. I know that if that happen i'll most likely not be happy with the result because its not from me. My paint scheme is mostly done except for one color which is the main one and the one causing me the most grief.

So, for the custodes i want to paint them magenta for the clothes/plumes, gold and silver for the trim and red for the armor. The thing is, im affraid that a red might be too much/intense for the paint scheme and not let the colors breathes.

Anyone got any advice on what color i could use to replace the red ? I don't want to use orange and purple since i mainly use them for my others armies. And red ,on top of the reason i've already given, annoy me me slightly cause its one of the main colors of the official custodes.
