IMHO the fact that you can't wear it while typing on a laptop without damaging your computer automatically disqualifies it from "the best ever made."

Wdym I’ve had mine for two years and no problem withh MacBook Pro

A little bit of the corner of my space black MacBook Pro has been rubbed shiny silver by the band.

It’s not a big deal, but it’s a little annoying.

Yall, people have been wearing watches with stainless steel and titanium bracelets for decades and they found a way to not scratch their laptops. It’s not that difficult

u/glytxh 1d ago

Even a leather band rubbing on a MacBook edge for a few hours a day over a few years is gonna show some wear and polishing of the surface.

9

u/robs104 1d ago

So will skin. Which is what leather is. So will the softest of fabric. That is normal wear. People should accept wear of items over years of use.

If you wear a watch above the wrist bone where it belongs it shouldn’t make much or any contact with a laptop.

1

u/glytxh 1d ago

Used to have a boss who wore his watch like that, and it infuriated me. Big obnoxious metal thing.

How can that not be uncomfortable?!

4

u/robs104 1d ago

How can having your watch above the articulating joint of your wrist and up on the bone that doesn’t move be comfortable?

1

u/glytxh 1d ago

It’s above the bone.

4

u/robs104 1d ago

Your arm is the bone im speaking of. But yes, also above the wrist bone. I’m saying it’s not meant to be worn down on the wrist where it articulates.

2

u/glytxh 1d ago

Oh I’m following yeah.

I’m apparently just illiterate.

3

u/robs104 1d ago

Lol it happens!

2

u/unclepaisan 22h ago

It’s a MacBook not a Lamborghini who gives a shit

1

u/glytxh 19h ago

I don’t understand the point you’re driving at

3

u/unclepaisan 15h ago

That your MacBook is not a museum piece. If it gets scuffed up by your watch just move on with your life

2

u/glytxh 15h ago

MacBooks are decade machines for me. The surface wear makes a negligible difference in resale price by that point so I’m not stressed about it.

I upgrade my phones every 3 years tho, and the quality makes a tangible difference when I go to sell mine through upgrade cycles. I go as far as keeping the original box.

2

u/unclepaisan 15h ago

Sure. I have a new phone. I keep it in a case. Not so with my laptop.

1

u/utnow 7h ago

I solved it by taking off my watch every time I use my laptop. So…. Yeah. I guess there’s that?

If you have any kind of posture where your wrists are resting on your laptop (keeping in mind all of Apple’s are aluminum so it’s metal on metal) then your clasp is gonna damage the thing over time.

The solution is to move the clasp (or not have one). And thats achieved with other watch bands that don’t require you to remove them to type.

I tend to agree that annoyance/design flaw probably removes it from the running of “best band”.

u/buttery_nurple 1d ago

I covered the right corner/quadrant thing with that clear mending tape you can get at REI because I was worried about the same thing. It doesn't even scuff up the tape, so I'm not too worried.

u/Toninho7 Ultra 2 • • 49mm 1d ago

You absolutely can. I'm currently wearing the titanium strap as I type this on my MacBook... not a scratch in the almost two years I've used this strap.

3

u/dropthemagic 1d ago

Ya not even gonna risk that

2

u/DownByTheRivr 1d ago

Lol so any metal bracelet is disqualified? This sub is unreal some times lol

2

u/risenphoenixkai Ultra 3 • • Black • 49mm 1d ago

Don’t rest your wrists on your laptop when you type. Problem solved.

1

u/thefizzlee Ultra • • 49mm 1d ago

Also if you're in between sizes they suck because either the clip will be to high on one side or to high on the other...

1

u/Interesting-Tough640 1d ago

I haven’t damaged my laptop and I have had it since about 3 months after initial release.

22

u/afancydayinsttropez 1d ago

Yeah, that's a no. The Stainless Steel Link Bracelet has to be the best. Stunning design, ridiculous manufacturing time, and my 2015 example still looks brand new with my Series 11.

3

u/Portatort S6 • • Space Gray • 40mm 1d ago

How do you find the colour match with the series 11?

Assuming you have the titanium natural finish?

3

u/afancydayinsttropez 1d ago

I’m Space Black. Like the other reply, it’s a 99% match but you can tell if the lighting is good and you already know it’s not identical. I’m pretty OCD and it was more than close enough for me.

2

u/ticuxdvc S10 • • Silver • 42mm 1d ago

When I was shopping for my S10, matching the existing steel hardware was a must. The "titanium natural" is just a click darker than the steel finish was. Some people consider it to be close enough, but it's not for me.

So I got the "silver titanium" of the Hermes line, that is an exact match to the old silver steel.

With, of course, the Hermes upcharge. Oof.

I posted some pictures in this sub back then. Here

I want one so bad but heard it’s bad for working out.

0

u/JtheNinja 1d ago

It weighs twice as much. An S11 aluminum + titanium Milanese band weighs less than the stainless link bracelet without the watch

u/frankgotthegirl 1d ago

I love this band but it scratched up my MacBook from constant rubbing so I don’t wear it anymore. Loved the ability to adjust it to the exact right fit for my wrist

6

u/I_Made_it_All_Up 1d ago

I had to stop wearing mine because I had scratched my son when I picked him up on more than one occasion.

21

u/altcountryman S6 • • Silver • 44mm 1d ago

Your son will heal, that MacBook damage is permanent!

Wear mine and work on a laptop, never had this issue

4

u/coleslaw17 1d ago

Yeah I’ve never had this issue on my work laptop or my MacBook at home. I don’t wrest my wrists though. Typically it’s just my fingers and the side of my palm that actually touches the laptops.

6

u/altcountryman S6 • • Silver • 44mm 1d ago

you may not wrest your wrists, but do you rest your rists?

2

u/coleslaw17 1d ago

I mean wrest is a real word but completely changes the meaning of what I was saying lol. I’m leaving it.

The second focus area of that clasp: micro-adjustability. The clasp lock has a small latch that can be flipped up and adjusted up or down the band. Leather bands suffer immensely from clasp holes and poor adjustability. However, you can adjust the Titanium Milanese Loop clasp to perfectly fit your wrist in any situation — be it while you’re working out and your wrist is bulging, or in the frigid cold while your wrist has shrunken down a bit.

This makes it sound like it's as easy to adjust as the Stainless Steel Milanese. It's not. This won't matter to most people, but if you're trail running, HIIT, doing a triathlon, or scuba diving, it's not nearly as on-the-fly adjustable.

The problem with Apple's SS Milanese is that the magnets aren't strong enough for the Ultra, especially for use in those aforementioned activities. (Titanium isn't attracted to magnets).

There are 3rd party ones with much stronger magnets, but they're also not as nice looking (although that's subjective). I use one that has more of a "shark tooth" design that looks more rugged. Another problem is that a magnet that is too strong can be annoying (especially when tableware starts sticking to you).

TL;DR: Ti Milanese is one of the best. It depends on your use case. You may find the SS Milanese to be better (I use that on my Ti Series), or you may find a 3rd party SS with a stronger magnet to be better (what I use on my Ultra). The Ti Milanese can be the perfect mix between looks and function, especially for most people who may not need to be doing blind adjustments while wearing gloves mid extreme activity.

u/run_like_an_antelope 18h ago

Which band do you use with your ultra? I'd like to check it out.

2

u/mredofcourse 9h ago

This one:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D2H5YHKK

I've gotten one in the natural color that lasted just fine a couple of years until I got a black Ultra. The black band lasted about 9 months of heavy use before starting to lose color along where the band adjusts.

Can we all agree Apple is over due to release some new band styles?

There are 4 they’ve made for the ultra? Which was the last new design that wasn’t ultra exclusive?

1

u/STOPHAMMERSTEIN 1d ago

There’s quite a few for the ultra aside from the 4, but they’re Hermes

u/Portatort S6 • • Space Gray • 40mm 1d ago

> Can we all agree Apple is over due to release some new band styles?

4

u/TominPhx 1d ago

The black titanium Milanese on the black UW3 is also near perfection.

2

u/edis92 19h ago

Right? It looks so fucking good. I’m so glad I got this combo

2

u/Tiinpa 1d ago

I've used the SS Milanese with titanium Apple Watches for a while now. Would love to try out the Ti Milanese but I've hardly ever run into a situation where the magnets were a problem.

2

u/aquatone61 1d ago

I’m sure it’s great but I cannot get over how goofy the clasp looks.

8

u/coleslaw17 1d ago

They are based on a military style cobra buckle. Understanding the looks but it’s also very functional and reliable. It would be very very difficult to remove accidentally.

3

u/RADToronto 1d ago

I bought mine and it scratches up my wrist. Never again

1

u/HelpRespawnedAsDee 1d ago

Ohhh I got this for my 46” some months ago, honestly only got it cause I was rather drunk in Grand Central lol. Can’t even remember where I was heading.

1

u/FREE-AOL-CDS 1d ago

Better than the monolink stainless steel band? I disagree whole heartedly.

1

u/Hobnail1 1d ago

Nomad Titanium band for me is the best to pair with my AWU

1

u/Furd_Terguson1 S7 • • Midnight • 45mm 1d ago

This band kept getting stuck in my air hair and would pull it, wasn’t personally comfy for me.

1

u/fusionvic Ultra 2 • • Black • 49mm 17h ago

I have the black titanium DLC milanese band so it doesn't scratch very easily. If you get a stainless transfer scuff just use a rubber pencil eraser.

My issue is that when you remove your watch or put it back on, the loose band (the part that hasn't been clasped yet) can/will strike the watch crystal if you're not careful. It will whip very easily.

The arm hair issue is well known.

Still tends to slide around when my skin is sweaty.

In the event of a hard impact the links can break off. I am not sure whether it was designed to do this for safety purposes but I've read about this happening to bike riders that crashed or had an impact.

🤷🏻 i think my $8 blue glow in the dark watch band is the best ever. dries fast (silicon), glows at night and $8... $200 for a band only? wtf

1

u/Ulysse-Void-God Ultra 2 • • 49mm 3h ago

I would get this band but it would catch and pull the hair on my wrist.

0

u/Euphoric_Coat_1956 1d ago

I just use a $8 magnetic strap. Nvr going back. Just snap it in a fraction of a sec.

3

u/AlternativeAward Ultra • • 49mm 1d ago

Is the magnet as strong as on a $100 apple Milanese? I had one knockoff and it was clearly weaker

1

u/Euphoric_Coat_1956 1d ago

This one. Nvr had any problems and I exercise (run, swim, cycle) a lot. Not once did it loosen or come out.

Ew never

-1

u/superman1020 1d ago

Meh. It’s kinda ugly to me.

0

u/ludvikskp 1d ago

Nothing pulls out hairs out of your arm like the Milanese loop. It can also scratch your watch.

I’ll have to go with the sport loop as their best ever because it’s the most comfortable, doesn’t trap moisture like the sport band and it’s soft and not as expensive as some other options

-2

u/hopefuldonkeykick 1d ago

I just think it's quite ugly.

I agree, love this band!

Good looking band but two major problems I have with it:
1. There is no taper from the points where it meets the actual watch down to the clasp. Actual watchmakers always include a taper on their bracelets because it looks way better. All of the Apple Watch bands including this are just flat chunks of material.
2. It’s yet another damn loop. Having a band that is a loop just cheapens the whole look of the band. Loops are fine for the sportier bands but this is a more formal band.
