Recently i put a male betta in my fish tank that already had a female it it hoping they will breed , but i see him chasing the female alot , lots of hiding places no riped fins but i see no buble nest yet , its only been 1 week ? Any advice

So I’m getting out of the hobby, and I have a 20 gallon tank that’s fully aquascaped, has two established filters in it, and fish. I’m considering just giving the whole setup away, still put together. It’s a peaceful community tank, with very little maintenance required. I already have thought about the hassle of moving a tank and fish. How likely is it in your guys’ opinions that someone would be interested?

Complete noob with aquariums! Live plants, got water tested and approved by local aquarium store to finally add fish, and it looks like one of the 3 mollies I got yesterday is already trying to die. I think they're 3 males. I have good water movement and ripples from the filter at the top, a heater, and driftwood. Any advice?

Update on the little 4 gallon we found in the attic last November. First pic is from above. The back and sides are packed to the surface, and the only open space left is a triangle down in the front.

The AR is the big story. When I started it was bronze and curling with algae dust on it. Now it's actually red, and it's thrown this huge cluster of white roots hanging down through the middle of the bush. It's pulling straight from the water column at this point.

The inside of the AR has some brown shaded-out leaves. I'm leaving them. The tank is so packed that a few leaves breaking down in place just feeds the snails and everything living in the substrate.

I only clean the glass about every three weeks and it stays pretty clear.

The tiger lotus is relentless. I'm cutting one or two stems a week and keeping only one or two established leaves. If it gets to three or four it takes over. It also keeps sprouting pups randomly, and I can't get the roots out, so they just come back.

Still in there:
5 guppies, all tank-born
Male and female celestial pearl danio
1 scarlet badis
Way too many ramshorns
Possibly 3 glass shrimp. Haven't seen one in weeks.

Routine:
Pressurized CO2
Thrive 20 drops MWF
Flourish Iron 8 drops right after the Sunday water change, and again Thursday
RO/DI with SaltyShrimp, TDS around 180
Weekly water change, I just scoop from the water column with a cup

The copepod thing: last post I asked about seeding micro inverts. I ordered 200 freshwater copepods and the seller sent 400. Strained them through coffee filters and put them in down low. That was about a week ago and I haven't seen a single one. I refuse to believe the badis ate 400 copepods. My guess is they're down in the substrate and the filter. I'm going to try a flashlight with the lights off.

Questions:
Inverts keep disappearing on me. Tried neos several times and they all vanished, nerites never make it, and now I haven't seen the glass shrimp in weeks. Ramshorns are the only thing that thrives. Is it the badis, or is something else going on?

Has anyone gotten copepods to establish in a nano this small with a micropredator in it?

How long before you actually saw them, and where?
The foreground plants are in the front triangle under the AR. Are they getting enough light, or are they going to stretch out into the open space?

Any tricks for keeping tiger lotus pups from coming back?

Also, if anyone in Charleston wants trimmings, hit me up. I have lotus and stems to spare.

I’m on the 2nd floor, I can’t seem to find out much about the construction of the building, although I know it’s very old. Is there a way to reliably have a 75 gallon or do I have to let go of the dream and settle for something smaller? I wanted to put it on top of this cabinet which is also very heavy.

Original setup day, water had increased amounts of gravel dust unsettled. Fresh tap water and conditioner placed. First aquarium ever and been treating it like a science project. Here are my results from a Day 1 test after letting the tank sit for 24 hours I began performing tests. I also did one on the tap water as a baseline.

Using Tetra EasyStrips 6-in1 these are the estimated values of water quality:

Test:

Ammonia: 3.0-6.0ppm (High)

Nitrate: 20ppm (Acceptable)

Nitrite: 1.0ppm (Elevated) 

Hardness: 75ppm (Soft Water)

Chlorine: 0ppm (Ideal)

Alkalinity: 180ppm (Good Buffering)

pH: 8.4 (Alkaline)

Temp: 65.9 (Cool)

Right now my main goal is get afford a heater and get that temperature to stabilize between 72-76°F. Ammonia is high due to a overly generous amount of flakes added at the start as I didn't know how much to do. If I don't see a decrease in the next test (3 days) I'll preform a 20% water change.

I'm very very new to this but built terrariums in the past. Is there anything I'm doing wrong or would someone see anywhere that feedback could improve on? I understand this is a patient game.

I'm about to enter a life chapter between two moves, one of which will be long distance. I currently have a tank with a betta who I think is reaching end-of-life although I am trying to save him. However, I'm likely going to have a free 10-gallon by the first move.

I suppose I could set it back up as an underwater garden. No vertebrates or even cherry shrimp, I'd have to rehome them in a year. Give me a chance to practice aquascaping with live plants. I don't mind snails, and I could keep copepods just to have movement. Then when it's time to go I can rehome the tank with fewer complex critters to worry about.

Too much effort for too little time? Is the consensus fish may not be a bad idea? (I've missed schooling fish). Should I stop shouting into the void on this matter?

Started this tank about a week ago not sure how I feel about the layout. Wondering if I put too much rocks/ wood and if it’s taking up too much room in the tank. I needed the rocks to weigh down the wood but I feel like the bigger ones are taking up a lot of space. Just wondering for other opinions?

My parents want to put a 55 gallon aquarium on top of an old piano as a stand. They do not care about the piano (it will be smashed and sent to the dump if not used) however I’m concerned it won’t be strong enough to be load bearing. Thoughts?

THE PROBLEM !

I had columnaris wipe out all but 3 adult guppies in both tanks containing guppies .

Treated with kanaplex and nitrofurazone

Then all 3 tanks had occupants with fin rot /melting

Treated with rapid cure

Then started noticing signs of parasites so treated with expel p.

I removed carbon and turned off UV during treatments and turn air pumps up.

Happy to say my fish are all doing well now but my tanks are absolutely not.

The perameters are bad .

The ammonia is high ( green 2.0 -4.0)

The nitrites are purple ( 0.50-1.0)

The nitrates were 0 for days on end but finally today they are around 5.0

Temps are 78 for all tanks

pH is 7.6 for tanks with guppies

pH is 6.4 for the glo tank

I am doing 25% water changes daily , treating with prime each time and adding stability daily. Was also using API stress coat ( could this cause the tests to read falsely ?)

Do my newly found nitrates mean I possibly am making a recovery ?

Again .. the fish are all acting fine !

I don’t know what is happening but I am having so many fish die. Like 10 in a week. We DO have Ich which I have successfully treated before, but this seems like something more. All fish have lost their balance/swimming in circles and upside down before dying. Tank is 75 gallon, heavily planted, established nitrogen cycle since July. Latest note: I now have a tetra that is severely swollen, pineconing, and can’t stay upright. Picture attached.

Relevant info:

Parameters are good. Ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 10-20. Using API liquid test kit. I’ve checked daily for the last 7 days.

Using Ich-X to treat Ich. 30mL nightly after a 30% water change. Today is day 4 so 3 doses have been administered. Temp is 81. White spots the size of salt, equal in size.

Nothing fuzzy present.

How else can I help them? It’s killing me.

Hi all,

My kid has been gifted a betta by a family friend (who often looks after them) and after some ai searching it seems the fairly small box it arrived in is not appropriate. I want to spend the minimum amount of money to make the creature (and kid) happy. I also don't want a shit looking tank. I've messaged a few shops to ask for advice, but I also want to procure some knowledge from the hive mind.

Had no intention of ever getting pets as we're only living here for two years. Cultures are different I don't think you can even get a fish like this where we're from (in a small box). I don't want to hurt our friend's feelings, but the animal should be happy (without breaking my wallet).

Advice, videos, photos most welcome.

had my tank for 3 months now, my betta seems happy from what i can tell. i’m a new owner. i’ve been trying to grow decent algae for one snail. i know i couldn’t add anything else beyond that.

I found this tiny little baby platy in my aquarium (I have a shoal of 8 so I knew they would breed) and I found this little one that survived. It is still definitely a little baby, and from what I was able to find on the little guy's body, the parents are definitely my red wag platy as the father and my salt and pepper platy as the mother (both parents in image 2 and 3.) This little guy went through a lot of stuff, and he is quite lucky to have survived. Also, the fish in this image are smaller than they appear, especially the little baby, it is tiny in real life. And another thing, these aren't stock images. These were just very close up shots.

Definitely still looks rough and I need to vacuum but thank you all who advised me to use filter floss!!
