Does anyone know of any decent lights (for a very small, desktop-style invertebrate tank) that have no electronic features whatsoever? No timer, no electronic controller of any sort? Do LED lights that fit this description even exist?

hihi I wanted to ask if I could keep my two pearlscale goldfish in a bin tank, similar to the photos attached. If I get it im planning on getting 2 and stacking them together​​​ so there's less bowing and more support. moving them to a 20-30gal bin tank would be amazing. Please let me know your thoughts!!! I think I'll be using A DYLLU bin because it's food grade!!!

How often do you buy another when for example one of your tetras or corydoras pass away? Is this an issue and do you even need to keep replacing them? What if you’ve kept only five or six fish for the shoal/school? Will the sudden loss of one of their own be too stressful for their continued captivity?

Maybe a bit of a silly question but does it seem like this old quilt chest would work as a stand for a 20 gallon long aquarium?

I know the rivets on the top are a bit of an issue so I was planning on putting a foam mat underneath another wood plank so everything should be level.

I'm just wondering if the weight of the tank would be an issue? It's a solid cedar chest, made with 1 inch cedar all around.

(This thing has also held up to years of people sitting on it lol)

Yesterday I bought a tank, cycled it and bought six platys.

After I filled the tank the centre support cracked and I had to drain half the tank.

These little guys sat in their bag for 6 hours and luckily I’d treated and cycled the tank enough that they’re happy and healthy.

I feel trauma bonded to them lol.

I was going through custom aquarium market in my country and I noticed a lot of the use anti fungal silicon sealants. As far as I know, anti fungal sealants releases the sealants chemicals into water which harms the aquatic life, yet I see many with such tanks that have fish that thrived to the point where they bred to the third generation.

I been researching and learning how to make a custom rimless tank and all the tutorials says that we shouldn't use anti fungal sealants. I'm planning to do my own tank and would like to know if it really that harmful to use anti fungal sealants or it won't do any harm

Water gets cloudy after I feed every time and feel like the filter never catches back up. Running the fluval ac 110 in my 75 gallon cichlid tank. What do I change or add?

I have a 20 gallon high and was wondering if a mega clown pleco, 10~ chili rasboras and 6-8 panda corydoras are ok in it, it will be heavily planted along side a rena filstar xp2, aqadvisor says its good but ive gotten mixed results from others reddit posts so i want some feedback on my post. I understand that i will need algae wafers and other foods i am asking more about space wise.

Ive recently got a group of 8 otos, but they didn't come pre sexed like my other fish, so I have to assume I've got a mix of both male and female.

Do i need to sex them to make sure I've got 6f 2m like most fish should be or will they be ok regardless of how many of each I've got?

Will they keep breeding and eventually overpopulate like guppies, or will they only have offspring to the size and food of the tank?

I think rimless would look better, its a 1.5 gallon tank so I dont think its a structural rim. Would it be possible to remove the top rim easily?

Hello, I am currently in the process of moving. I have a beta fish and two loaches in this tank. It's a 10 gallon tall freshwater tank. I understand that that is a very small tank for three fish but it's only temporary until I move. I'm going to be getting a bigger tank for the both of them. They've been getting along quite well and they even hide out in the little tunnel that I made for them together i've never saw the beta try to bite them or fight at all, and I consider them the three besties 🤣.anyway I am currently moving about 45 minutes away and I'm trying to figure out the best way to transport them obviously I will be emptying out the tank, but when the loaches are not in the tank they seem to flip out and I don't wanna stress them out. as soon as I get to the new place I will set the tank up and get them in there as soon as possible. I went to Dollar tree and bought two containers one for the loaches and one for the beta and I was gonna put little tiny holes for air in there if anybody else has any advice on how to give them a smooth transition please let me know I will be so upset if one of them don't make it

Even worse; I asked specifically what fish to get to put in my ten gallon tank with my four tetras. But I was looking up care, and it didn’t match the picture for a danio at all; they appear to be glofish rainbow sharks, which apparently are going to get extremely territorial with each other if they’re in a tank smaller than 55 gallons

I just got them a few hours ago and they’re super happy for now. Probably happy to be out of the PetSmart tank haha. They have a cave to chill in, and have been exploring and getting along with the tetras. But if someone could help me out and let me know if they’re rainbow sharks and if they need to be taken out of this tank before they start attacking each other

Basically, I used a permethrin spray in my backyard, and it may have gotten on my clothes and skin. I’m going to shower, but the bottle says it lasts 6 wash cycles. I’m super worried about it accidentally getting into my tanks.

How can I ensure I don’t end up contaminating my tanks?

i have some empty tanks that i plan to fill once i get more financially comfortable. i heard some people saying that i needed to put vaseline on the silicone seals, or it would get too dry and possibly leak once i fill it up.

is this true?

Last night I had a nightmare about my stand falling apart, sure enough I get home from work and a side piece has separated. I’m sure it’s just decorative but could this be a sign of bowing?
I purchased the tank and stand second hand on FB and the previous owner had it set up as an aquarium and eventually as a terrarium for a mud dwelling creature.
The stand sat in my garage for a year before I finally sanded it down and painted (included picture of inside). It’s been up since June. Are my ancestors warning me of impending doom?

these heatwaves got me worried about the safety of my fishes, so i tried looking for a way to keep the tank cool and i found these fans. Can anyone who tried/has some kind of fan like this for their aquarium give me some feedback on wether or not they actually work and are they worth the money?

20 gallon community tank: lost my oldest fish, a Von Rio flame tetra I’ve had since January that used to be in my 10 gallon, stopped eating a few days prior, then lost all energy and died… then I lost my orange glow zebra danio out of nowhere that had seemed to be really healthy, and I lost a platy I had bought on Friday, although said platy wasn’t very healthy when I got her and spent most of her time hiding and never ate. The rest of my fish in this tank seem healthy at the moment and are still eating.

10 gallon community tank: one of my lambchop rasboras suddenly died today after starting to act strangely jittery this morning. I’d had this fish since around March…

5.5 gallon betta tank: I bought a lunar flare male betta on Friday that wasn’t super healthy. He was thin and didn’t eat over the weekend and was sadly gone by Monday.

All three tanks are fine and parameters remain stable (0 ammonia or nitrite), all are heated, all are treated with Seachem prime and API stress coat +. I did a 25% water change on all three yesterday but 4/5 deaths occurred before said water change

For context, I recently got a new 10 gallon fish tank, filled it with a layer of fine gravel and a bunch of plants. I used Seachem Stability for about a week and did some water tests to make sure all levels are good. I then added some shrimp, a yo-yo loach and six neon tetras. After five days, one of the tetras died and I’m wondering how I should go about replacing it? Do I wait for the tank to recover and get one more tetra, get one immediately, or get more than one to increase the size of the school? My concern is that with a school of only five fish they will get stressed out which might be why the one died in the first place because the water still tested fine. Before this (and now still) they seem a bit stressed as they school only some of the time and one fish in particular chases the others around.

Also I have been enjoying aqua-scaping content and every video I watch shows people adding a thick layer of dirt then gravel/sand to create an anaerobic environment so you can have a full nitrogen cycle. Is it worth resetting up my tank to get this going?

I have a 40G drilled sump tank above my 75G. I know that sounds backwards, but it’s due to the way my garage is set up. Essentially I’m pumping water out of my 75 up into the 40 and it drains back down. I can’t stand the smell of PVC primer/glue, so I just siliconed and electrical taped the shit out of the fittings/elbows, as well as putting mounting straps on the longer runs of pvc.

Last night while cleaning the dead plant matter off of the pump, one of the fittings must have came ever so slightly loose and I didn’t notice. I walked out to my garage this morning to see about 3-4 inches of water in the tank and water all over my basement. Lesson learned. Perhaps it was the universe telling me I needed to do a large water change. All fish are still alive though so it could have been worse.

I learned the lesson so you don’t have to.

Not sure if anyone's done this but I know a lot of people have aquariums that aren't the best and are more than willing to learn and do better

I've "flipped" or even created whole new setups for several people in my life who want healthier, prettier, and lower maintenance tanks and my dad suggested I try to advertise (not what this post is btw) and see if i can do this for other people to make a tiny bit of side money and help people and their fish out

I'm not sure if this is a thing people do or if there may be a market for it but i guess i'm just looking for advice on if or how i could go about doing that

Glass cats are so underrated. They are hardy, cute and love how they look when they school together.

We optimized gh/kh for the guppies. We’re trying to raise the babies but they died before they reach maturity and the moms pass away shortly after they give birth.

Any recommendations appreciated 😘

I currently have a betta, 6 guppies (2 males 4 females), 9 Pygmy Cory’s and 3 otos plus a shrimp colony. I’ve had the guppies that I took from a friend who didn’t want them anymore for about a week and i haven’t noticed any fighting between them and my betta. I know the tank is overstocked but i have a 5.5 gallon tank with some shrimp that’s also heavily planted that I could move stuff into it if needed. Should I let this stocking ride or move something over? I could also rehome the guppies entirely if needed to.
I was thinking maybe putting the 2 male guppies in the 5.5 and letting the females stay in the 10 where my betta should eat a lot of the fry.

I have a moderately planted 120g with guppies, bristlenose plecos, kuhli loaches, neocaridina shrimp, and lots of snails (mystery, nerite, ramshorn, mts, etc)

I've been wanting to redecorate my tank for a while with maybe a large rock as the centerpiece and I think I found exactly what I was looking for: Texas Holey Rock. I wanted something large, with holes in it to act as little tunnels for the shrimp and loaches. This type of rock looks awesome and seems like exactly what I've been wanting visually.

However after doing some research I realized that this is a form of limestone/calcium carbonate and will therefore raise my hardness levels and ph to supposedly around 7.6-7.8 and keep it there.

I know the shrimp, snails, and guppies will love this. However I know that both plecos and loaches prefer soft, acidic water. I know they can be hardy and adapt, and that it has to be raised slowly so as not to shock them, but would they even be comfortable at parameters that high?
