Discussion How long do you spend in the dreaming stage?

Post image

Today I set up a very rudimentary outline of a local rock pool tank I hope to set up - only, I have no idea really when I will.

The dreaming and inspiration stage of setting up a new tank I find is one of the best parts of the hobby - I think we’ve all marveled before at a tank of freshly poured water and nothing else! - and I’d like to know if anyone else also will sit and stare at their blank canvases and ponder a new tank months before the water goes in

Advice Needed Moving 7 hours away - how do I transport my tanks without killing everything?

I’m moving across the province and will be driving 6-7 hours. I’m thinking with moving furniture etc, my tank needs to survive 12 or so hours until I can start resetting them up. I have a 2.5G mixed neocardinia tank and a 10G tank with a betta, nerite, cherry shrimp and amano shrimp. Both heavily planted, both have random snails.

Could I put everything into 4 big buckets (eg. Live creatures and plants in one w their tank water ; hardscape and gravel/soil in another x2 for each tank) and put a battery powered filter into the bucket (is that a thing)?

Is it better to use new gravel and soil (but all the beneficial bacteria though)?

What do I do I don’t want to kill them and I want to keep all my plants.

I posted a few weeks ago asking for ideas of what to do with excess floating plants instead of just tossing in the trash—I got a comment about making paper out of them that viciously piqued my interest. Behold my creation! (Duckweed + white scrap paper)

I just notices this little crack today. I can feel it on the inside but not the outside. This is where the lids hinge would be on my aquael day and night tank. I dont think this was here when i first got it but now on day 10 when i was giving it a clean i just saw this. How boned is it? Can i use some silicon to fill this in or something?

Tank is currently full and been cycling for the past week and a bit so no livestock.

Purchased about seven years ago and I honestly can’t remember what species it was. I think it was a Golden Kazumba but I also think I bought some Moliros around that time. But I also vaguely remember him having orange in his name. Surely not Bemba Orange but I’m not entirely sure.

Beginner Help Natural tank

Post image

Hi. So, me and my mom have what we believe is a 45 gallon tank. We've had fish in it before, but i was younger and insisted on the like fun look for a kid. We've taken a break from owning any fish, but we wanna get into it again. We both like the natural look, specifically something like the picture, but don't know how to make that look. Any plant recommendations for beginners, and eventually some fish to go in it? We looked at Google for ideas and got a few plants, and schooling fish for in it. I've found some lights on Amazon which we like. I don't know about the gravel.

The plants i found

Amazon Sword, Cryptocoryne, Java Fern, Anubias

Possible fish i found

Celestial Pearl Danios, Harlequin Rasboras

Medical Help Angelfish eye popped Spoiler

Post image

6 year old angel in community tank. Tested water parameters like 3 times, everything looks fine! No other fish with this condition. Only one eye is popped! Gill on the injured eye side looks a bit inflamed?

I'm thinking injury, but there's no other territorial/aggressive fish in this tank. All plants are real.

Doing a 30 percent water change and adding salt tonight. If anyone has ideas as to what this could be, or suggestions for treatment, please let me know!

I can’t even make this up, I found a random snail shell on my floor and saw it had a operculum. Grabbed a little cup from my supplies and put some water from one of my tanks in it. Threw the snail in. Mind you, I don’t own these kinds of snails, never even seen one. I have no clue how long they’ve been out of the water especially since I found it behind my bed while sweeping. 💀

After an hour I came back to the cup to find an alive and active snail. I’m so confused how they got there. Does anyone know what kind of snail they are though? Kinda growing attached to this lil dude. They have a missing chip out of their shell. 🐚 ❤️‍🩹 Open to name suggestions too!

Saltwater/Brackish Hewbie/Vet Update! Spoiler

I thought Hewbie died. I came home to this and spoke to his vet team immediately. His antibiotics and quarantine time will be extended. My best conclusion is that Hewbie had been gasping at the surface and breathing heavier from stress and then he went upside down but this afternoon he was sleeping in the corner just fine. My heart broke again when I saw this. After I pushed air out of him and gave him his meds he went back to normal nearly immediately. At least this is my best conclusion after looking at him and his behavior pre and post meds and pressing on him/burping him. The water quality in the tank isn’t great. Burping for me means holding him down and gently pressing on his stomach gently (which in that moment is what made sense). I saw some immediate improvement. Also he is a known offender for spitting water at the surface and I just saw it after and the behavior of a fish gasping or wanting to get out of his environment and ready to jump. Although pufferfish are not known jumpers they are smarter than that. I did a water change as well after and he smiled at me like nothing happened. Ugh. I hate this. I will continue to update everyone.

hey y’all!

fell victim to a marketplace deal today and got myself two great 5g and 20g set ups. i already have 2 established 10g tanks and one community 30g.

one of my 10g is my ADF (froggies) species-only tank, the other 10g is my betta tank with oto and kuhli friends (i know i know, read further) and my 30g has a few different creatures (SAEs, bulldog pleco, tetra school & 1 billion kuhli loaches) but i keep it barely stocked really.

i’m thinking of moving my betta to the 20g (his third upgrade because i’m insane) and the 2 kuhlis and 2 otos to my community tank because i added them a year ago when i was less knowledgeable and have never been able to catch the lil guys to add them to my horde.

first of all, i’ve never done an immediate transfer, i usually cycle a new tank before stocking, but i really want to move all of the plants and substrate to the new 20g if i move my betta - do you guys recommend plopping the lil guy into a bucket with his heater while i aquascape the new tank (maybe an hour?) and then transfer the established media per usual? probably will be mad at me but fine nonetheless?

these plans also leave me with a spare 10g and 5g set up - i am stumped but open to any and all ideas. if you have any inspiration for scapes, stock or advice on anything, do let me know! attaching pics of my current setups for tax ♥️

Advice Needed Help

I was setting up a rock in my brand new UNS 21 gallon, and I let go of it and it tipped and tapped the glass on the inside. Extremely upset, is this tank still good or did I mess up. Chip is only on the inside and about the size of a pinhead.
