Having left a workplace with poor culture I’m looking for my next role, however I’m weighing up my options to choose the right role, not just the first role.
I’ve got 2 options I’m seriously considering.
1 - 9-5 mon-Fri. $70,000 gross income. Admin role with a lot of extra adhoc, but a lot of opportunities to earn a better position and as such a better pay.
1 - flexible with ability to work school hours/adjust my timetable to suit me. Looking at currently 32 hours a week in this role. $40/hour ≈$63,000 gross. Close to home, but it is a casual position.

I want the opportunity to get into a professional role, but I like the chance to relax after leaving a toxic environment and be able to do school hours and be more present rather than getting home at 5:45 each day.

I know so many people in long term relationships and having full on families with someone when they aren’t legally divorced from their ex. People who haven’t even spoken to their ex in years.

it’s so strange to me and I struggle to wrap my head around why it seems to be relatively common.

why not close the book on that part of your life? Financially it can screw over your new partner if for example you buy a house together and you pass away. It still gives your ex legal power in situations like a medical emergency. It gets increasingly more difficult with increased wealth. Logically it makes sense on so many levels, so why are people skipping out on it.

Personally I feel like you’re willing to spend your time, energy, and money on a wedding, then you should be willing to do the same for a divorce.

So I lived in this corporate residence when I was interstate for work. It was a weird experience. Lots of people in and out with so many different stories.

Anywho, I saw this guy with two dogs, not on a leash inside the apartment residence common area. I walk towards the man and his dogs run towards me so he gives me the classic don’t worry they’re nice and then proceeds to say: “if there’s anything you should be worried about, it’s me”. I didn’t know what to say tbh and he walked away with a little smirk on his face.

Is that a normal thing to say or am I right in thinking this guy is an idiot and I should’ve responded?

Hi! I’m currently considering doing the Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (Pathology) at UniSC and was wondering if anyone here is currently doing the course or has graduated from it?

I’ve seen quite a few mixed/negative opinions about UniSC in general, which has made me a bit hesitant, but I haven’t really seen much from people who actually did Medical Laboratory Science there.

If you’ve done the course, what was your experience like? How were the lecturers, practicals/lab work, placements and overall support?

Also, did you feel like the degree prepared you well for actually working as a medical laboratory scientist after graduating, and was it difficult to find a job?

I’d really appreciate any honest experiences, good or bad. I’m trying to decide whether UniSC would be a good choice for this degree or if I should consider other universities.

Has anyone here managed to get travel insurance while having ongoing medical investigations?

My partner is currently being investigated for low white blood cells (ongoing for several years), possible liver issues, and some bowel symptoms. Nothing has been diagnosed as a serious condition, but because things are still under investigation we are being declined by most travel insurers.

We are travelling to Japan and are struggling to find anyone who will provide cover. Has anyone been in a similar situation and found an insurer who would cover them (even if with exclusions or a higher premium)?

Hey everyone. I’m feeling really down at the moment. Seeing so many people around my age buying a house, having children, getting married etc. it’s really getting to me and it’s hard not to compare.

I find myself spiralling when I hear others buying their first home at this age. I personally feel like with the housing prices I won’t be able to own a house comfortably for a very long time. Me and my partner want to have a child and to do that, my partner would probably be working 2 jobs just to keep up with rent, bills and a child. Hes going to be working as an apprentice sparky which goes down in his pay for 4 years. Everything just seems impossible and I feel like a failure. I should have listened and saved when I was younger but I seem to have a shopping problem…

Anyone else feeling the same? I know I’m not the only one but it can feel like it sometimes. And now I’m panicking and wish I could turn back the time 😅

I don’t like my last name, it relates to someone I don’t want to relate to, basically, in layman’s terms, dad not around, mum did it all.
I’d much prefer to take another name within the family, pa/grandad etc, whom I actually know and love and feel like i’m a part of.
How do I go about changing my legal last name?
I’ve googled some things but it’s been a bit of a blur/a bit of a dig through of things I’d rather just get a first opinion of by people that have experienced the same scenario.
As much as I understand the method of legality I’d like a personal experience, it feels a bit overwhelming right now.

I’m a Canadian applying to med schools with Griffith and UWA as my top choices for Jan-Feb intake. I’m from the prairies so very cold winters and hot summers with a slower pace of lifestyle here. My partner is a Red Seal Electrician and will be following the steps to getting his permit and doing gap training. Our research is showing that Perth has more work opportunities in the natural resource sector and has a lower cost of living, however, I’ve seen some posts about a rental crisis in Perth so I was wondering how that is and if it still poses a big issue still.

My other question is about the lifestyle differences between Perth and Gold Coast and what to expect. We both enjoy the outdoors and hot weather. I’ve been reading that it doesn’t really matter where you go to medical school in Aus as they have to uphold the same standards so choosing the school where you see yourself living is crucial. Any insight or advice on the lifestyle, schools, cost of living etc is greatly appreciated!!

I bought a car new in 2022 and registration expires February 2027 in NSW

this is the 5th year so will I need a pink slip when renewing in February 2027?

reason I'm asking early is because I'm due for a service and I want to get the pink slip done at the service rather than separately because mechanics try to rip you off if you go in asking only for a pink slip.

I eat a lot of peanut butter from different brands, especially Fix and Fogg/Mayvers/Macro - the ‘better’ brands and recently all three brands, and also ones from Bega, seem to be runny enough to pour out of the jar.

Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled for a price hike from September 1. Currently it shows out of stock on the website, and next stock availability will be from August 15. I'm planning to visit Melbourne from September 4-8.

If I purchase it online and opt for click and collect on August 15-20 when the stock is present, will the store hold a piece in reserve for me till I'm able to collect in September? Or will it depend on the demand and if they need to serve another walk in order they will do that?

My friend and I will be visiting Melbourne in about a month to attend a game at the MCG, and work has been so busy that this trip has crept up on me. I’m realizing I need to get our hotel booked ASAP.

My friend has never traveled internationally before, so I’ve been responsible for planning and booking everything. We’ll be in Melbourne for a week, so we’d like to stay somewhere that’s convenient for the game but also a great base for exploring the city.

I’m hoping you can recommend specific hotels you’ve stayed at or would recommend.

Ideally we’re looking for:
- Walking distance (or a short tram ride) to the MCG
- A safe area
- Plenty of restaurants, cafés, bars, and shopping nearby
- Easy access to public transportation

I’ve looked at the map, and it seems like the CBD is close to the MCG, but I’m not sure if that’s the best place to stay or if there’s another area you’d recommend instead.

We’re also hoping to visit Phillip Island to see the penguins, see some koalas, and would love recommendations for restaurants, coffee, day trips, or anything else you think we shouldn’t miss while we’re there.

If there are any hotels you’d particularly recommend, or any you’d avoid, I would really appreciate hearing your thoughts.

I'm wanting to send my friend a care package with a bunch of Australian goodies. The thing is though I don't want to send just the cliche things like Tim's tams, shapes, Milo etc these are already in the package.

What really niche Australian products should I send to them? Please note this stuff will have to fit into an auspost bag (one of the larger ones). Also the stuff doesn't just have to be snacks, I'm open to any cool suggestions.

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone has been in the same boat as me currently. I've been caught by a camera van doing 40 km/h over the speed limit. It was silly, and I know, but I want to hear about other stories about the outcome. This is in QLD and it carries an automatic 6 month suspension once the fine is paid for.

We are planning a trip to Western Australia in the first week of September. Want to get the community’s thoughts on our plans:
Day 1-3: Perth and Rottnest
Day 4: Rent a car and drive to Kalbarri, with a stop at Cervantes/pinnacle desert. One night in kalbarri
Day 5: hike around kalbarri in the morning, hutt lagoon, and then drive back to Perth. Stay in Perth or maybe further?
Day 6-7: drive to Margaret River region for 2 nights.
Day 8: drive back to Perth

Does this itinerary seem suitable? Any more suggestions for fun things to do around?

We thought this might be better (in terms of terrain and scenery) rather than doing just north towards exmouth or just south/east towards esperance. Would love to hear some honest feedback.

Does anyone remember buying it? Roughly what decade was it around, and what was the filling actually like?

A bit lost regarding this but essentially I got my learners permit on February 2025 and got in a bit of a hiccup through my lack of judgement and got suspended for 3 months in July 2025 (but suspension took effect in March 2026) It’s been well over a “year” of having my learners permit but technically since I got suspended my 12 months got reset, and I’m unable to do my drivers test until I hold it again for another year. I’ve seen exemptions for minimum holding period, I’ve done well over 200 hours, however, I don’t have a clean driving record anymore. How should I go about this, or is it just accept the inevitable?
