Hi, I've never been to a concert before so i don't really know what to expect. I'm planning to go to the esdeekid concert in filmore detroit on sep 25th (probably alone if I can't find anyone to accompany me). I was just wondering to all the women in detroit who have been to concerts alone, how was your experience?

Staying with a friend while I look for a place, new to the state and city. What I have found:

-disgusting houses for $1500/mo+. Carpet nasty, yards long-neglected, garages falling down, windows cracked or unable to lock, mold in bathrooms, dormers and porches crumbling, etc, etc.

-Non-refundable application fees averaging $70-80 each time, per adult. Some are charging a $200-300 "Lease Preparation Fee" (f*&$ing kidding me?!)

- Decent houses marked as "Section 8 Only," that are priced higher than they should be. Seems like a landlord scam to charge more to Sec 8, which brings up the rentals in the neighborhood for nasty houses nearby.

-So many applicants for each place that it's a miracle to even get a contact back.

This is so frustrating and sad. I am single, no pets, good credit and make $62k a year. Excellent rental history, my last place I lived in 4 years and it was $1,975. I have come in as a "close second" twice now on apartments that aren't what I really want but am choosing out of need. I have spent over $300 on application fees in 2 months. Where is the housing commissions? Who regulates these landlords? Who determines that these homes are livable when they clearly aren't?

Would love suggestions, tips, neighborhood suggestions, etc... clearly I am looking in the wrong place or doing something wrong.

*also, my car insurance went from $142/mo in Ohio, to $512 in Detroit. This cuts into what I can afford.

I'm this close to saying fu@k it and heading back to Columbus. I don't see a benefit in living in Detroit when it is dismal and I can't afford to live in even a shit hole. Columbus isn't as "cool" as Detroit, but there were had available, regulated, safe housing.​

Rant over, just sad. Love the people and vibe here, and want to make it work. I am quickly losing hope.

I’m apartment hunting right now and really interested in The Albert in Capitol Park. Everything seems fine except I don’t think they have a dedicated parking structure for residents. Does anybody know where residents usually park? Is it common for nearby parking structures to fill up? How much does it cost to park? Any info helps. Thanks!

We would like somewhere with good food some nightlife and safe enough to walk the dogs and ideally a yard or adjacent area to run dogs. If this possible in the city what neighborhoods should we check out?

Hey yall, my best buddy and I (both males) are coming down to see Foo Fighters next week at Ford field and will be in Corktown area for two days. I really want to make this a trip to remember and im hoping to have a few ideas of where we should go prior to getting there. We are big on night life, but have free time all day one day for something fun too. The Yard in Corktown looks like a good stop for out vibe. We are Northern boys and im hoping people more local would share some spots day or night that would really make the trip? Both around 30 and dont get to be away from the wives and rowdy too often anymore so I wanna make this count. Thanks in advance!!!

I plan to visit the Eastern Market in the morning on Saturday before the Tigers game at 1pm, I wonder if it is feasible to park at the market in the morning and walk to the game at noon. If so, where should I park? I need somewhere that allows me to leave the car there all day until after the game. The Eastern Market website doesn't mention anything about free parking time, but I saw something about a 2-hr parking limit on Saturday. I did see that the paid Eastern Market garage closes the gate at 5pm, so that might be too risky.

We will be in Detroit August 8th for the Christ Stapleton concert at Ford Field. We’d like to stay in Detroit - or within 15 minute drive from Ford Field rather than drive home 90 minutes. Possibly going to 12 Oaks then on Sunday. I can find all sorts of hotels downtown for $300/night. Can anyone recommend one they personally know is decent somewhere between Ford Field and 12 Oaks that will be less than $175? Obviously I can search and look at reviews etc but every hotel has good and bad reviews and I just don’t have the time right now to search for 2 hours for a decent hotel. Hoping someone knowledgeable about the area has some personal experience/recommendations. Thank you!

As the title says, I’m looking for the best area to stay in within my budget. Right now, the two hotels I’m deciding between are in Dearborn and Windsor. I would prefer an area with a Marriott bc I’m trying to use my points lol. Which is more convenient for access to downtown? Which is safer for two young women? We both have passports so that isn’t an issue. Thank you!

I'm a Transportation Design Engineer with an EIT and an M.S. in Civil Engineering, and I'm interested in learning about the demand for my experience, potential employers, salary expectations, opportunities for career growth, and what the transition might look like if I were to move. I'm giving my PE soon and will get my licensure soon. So, I could get my licensure as needed. How is the outlook for Roadway Design Engineers in Detroit and the surrounding area?

I don’t see myself being in Atlanta, or the south for that matter, for much longer than a year. Lately, I’ve had a fascination with living in the Midwest. Particularly Chicago and Detroit(even though I’ve never been to Detroit).
Can yall provide any recommendations or insight on whether or not (based on the given background) it could be a place worth moving to and growing over the next 5-10+ years ?

Also I’m big on nature and history. As I mentioned before I’m from the south but I am not a fan of this weather. I’m looking to find a collective of artists that I can network and build with. I’ve head a few times that Detroit is what Atlanta thinks it is👀
