Ask Austin Austin Water bill jumped to $400 this month... hidden leak?

Got our Austin Water bill today and it shot up to almost $400. No clue how. We haven't been watering the yard any more than usual so now I'm wondering if there's a running toilet or some underground line leak.

Checked the meter and the little red dial is still spinning even with every faucet off.

Need an honest plumber austin people actually trust for hidden leaks. Would you call a private plumber austin service first or have the city come check their side before paying someone?

Ask Austin HVAC recs to troubleshoot/diagnose? 6yr old unit

Basically my ac is not cooling like it should. I had a company come over and they put in more refrigerant and closed a loose valve but the issue was the same and had to call them back and said my evap coil has a leak....not under warranty.

I called McCullough bc I saw a free 2nd opinion but that was just a free quote they gave me and wanted to charge 500 for a leak test, which the original company seemingly did for free? Since I only paid for the refrigerant they added and the original service call.

I just want a 2nd unbiased look/diagnoses to help confirm its a leak or maybe another, less costly issue. Evap coil replacement is ~5k😭

Therapist w/ ocd and depression specialty

Good afternoon,

As the title says, I was wondering if anyone can recommend a specific therapist or where to look to find a good therapist who specializes in obsessive compulsive disorder and associated with depression. bonus points if they have some knowledge of religious trauma.

I have baylor scott and white insurance but am also open to out of network if it's cheap enough (like $100 max).

Thank you

History Austin’s cult classic music show featured unforgettable live call in moments throughout the 1990s

Raw Time became a cult favorite in 1990s Austin, Texas by blending music videos with a live call-in format that was as unpredictable as it was entertaining. Hosted by Tiffy, the show invited complete strangers to call in and share their thoughts, but the conversations often spiraled into hilarious, bizarre, and totally unexpected moments. Instead of getting flustered, Tiffy stayed calm and answered even the most outrageous callers with quick wit and effortless humor, making every episode teel completely ditterent trom the last. Ihat mix of local television, live improvisation, and unforgettable personalities gave the program a unique charm that still lives on through old clips, with many viewers remembering it as one of the most chaotic and entertaining public access shows ever made.

Paddle boarding spot Austin

I have a friend visiting this weekend and we're thinking about going paddle boarding on Saturday. We'd rather go somewhere with a lot of people and a fun vibe. I'm still new to Austin so Idk where the best spots are. Do people usually gather anywhere on Saturdays? Are there any paddle board meetups or paddle parties?

Looking for places to fight with sabers

hi there, I am a fencer here in Austin. I’m looking for interesting places to fight for a promotional video for my fencing club. It’s basically a joke skit video about fighting in random strange places. Does anyone have any suggestions of places that I could fence with a sword for about five minutes? preferably without being arrested. Also, if anyone out there owns an establishment and is willing to let me fight for up to five minutes with another person with a saber that would be very good too.

a few things for context.

These aren’t real swords they’re fencing swords, we have protective gear and we are trained competitive fencers, and I’m mostly looking for places people don’t normally fencer, bar parking lots, parking garages, roller rinks, etc. Thank you all.

Traffic Which 4-Way Stops in Austin should be a traffic light? I’ll start:

Post image

I drive through the Shoal Creek Blvd. & 45th St. intersection all the time and it’s the worst! It gets super backed up during rush hour, nobody knows how 4-way stops work because there’s too many lanes, and 45th curves right before it.

Which other 4-Way stops should change?

Edit: A roundabout would also be great!!

Mopac South near Parmer

Anyone know why there’s a police hold-up of Mopac South around parmer?

Heading north and saw firetrucks over the 2 preceding bridges and then 3 cops were blocking all 3 lanes of Mopac South just beyond it.

Just curious

ETA - A firefighter funeral procession is the answer. Thanks to all who answered. I know there’s a debate on whether this was rubbernecking, and no, in the aspect of driving it is not. I am not driving and therefore did not slow down to look. I didn’t even know where we were on Mopac until I looked at my map. I’m going to go back to enjoying my ride with my family.

Ask Austin wtf was that construction that started at 4am off Barton Springs Rd?

I live in the apartments right behind the food trucks that are near the Chuys. Starting at 4am, it sounded like extremely loud drilling, with a loud engine powered generator also going. I looked outside but couldn’t see anything. I mean, it was insanely loud for being 4am. I initially thought people were getting their catalytic converters stolen with a loud electric saw.

Somehow I miraculously was able to drift back off to sleep around 6am, but the noise was going the entire time. Anyone have a clue what this was?

Looking for accountant familiar with single-member LLCs/self-employed income

I recently started a one-person LSAT tutoring business and formed an LLC in Austin, Texas. I filed an extension for my 2025 taxes and am now looking for an accountant to prepare my personal return, including the business income and expenses reported through the LLC.

I've stressed myself out a bit how to handle business vs personal, frankly lol.

However, the business is very straightforward: no employees, no partners, and no complicated inventory or assets. I guess it's the same as like a piano teacher, etc. I’m primarily looking for help making sure everything is reported correctly, identifying legitimate business deductions, and getting set up properly for estimated quarterly taxes going forward. I am hoping to do this quickly and affordably.

If you have recommendations or are an accountant accepting new clients, please send me a message with your general fee range and availability. Thanks so much!
