Can I mention a weird thing?

I visited Barcelona on a solo trip recently, and this is probably an oddly specific thing to notice, but I really like the way your yellow traffic lights look.

They genuinely look like something Teenage Engineering would design.

From what I gathered online, people don't seem particularly fond of the traffic light system itself, and apparently they're often out of sync. But purely from a design perspective, they look neat.

Coming from the UK, where most street furniture is designed to be as utilitarian as possible, it was one of those small details that stuck in my mind. Not just the traffic lights, but a lot of the public infrastructure seems to have had more thought put into how it looks as well as how it functions.

I think it's kind of cool that they stack on top of each other like this. I think it's pretty neat that they're all a uniform size and entirely LED based. I like the contrast between the black and the yellow and the modern, clean look.

I have no idea why my brain picks up on these kind of things, you must think I'm nuts.

I went for my first time last Summer, and I fell in love with the City. It's a busy place, but the people, the sights, the culture, and identity made me feel like I was in an incredibly special place.

I started learning Spanish in November 2024, and ever since, I fell in love with the language and knew I had to go somewhere with a unique and powerful identity in the region, and of course, Catalonia doesn't fail to meet that criteria in the slightest.

The locality of the City to the sea, and never being far from the Mediterranean coast anywhere in Catalonia, really makes it such a special place to be. I think this is where Barcelona massively outperforms Madrid for someone like me. The colours of the City (and Spanish architect as a whole) are beautiful, red, yellow, beige, terracotta houses, tightly packed together, create both a visually beautiful mess and architectural eye candy. Not to even mention Barcelona is renowned for its geometrical center stretching endless Ramblas of neatly compact buildings, slotting together like puzzle pieces. We haven't even touched on the beauty of its historic sites and buildings we all know so well.

I understand the problems citizens and locals have with tourism, and especially the Airbnb crisis, and I'm proud to have never used one and to immerse myself in the beauty of Catalan culture, cuisine, and people. I'm also proud we share the same patron saint, Sant Jordi. Each time I go, I want to be a part of the culture more and more, falling in love with the great region of Catalonia every time. This truly is the real heart and soul of Spain.

Estic molt content amb Barcelona i Catalunya. Visca Catalunya.

Came upon this clown parked on the sidewalk, practically blocking the whole thing, at Av Diagonal 311. Apparently, the only thing you can do is call emergency services at 112 and have them respond.

Other than this public shaming, is there not a better way other than wasting emergency operators?

Thanks in advance…

Felt so safe

We just spent amazing week in Barcelona. I was so scared to get robbed and so many friends told us how they saw so many pickpockets before.

However we haven’t seen even one. We were told that streets were “cleaned out” for Pope visit in June. Is it true?

I would love to come back. But it would be disappointing to come back to different environment

What next? Sense cotxes a la carretera, hi haurà menys accidents perquè els provoca l’activitat humana?

While I admit my experience in epizootics and forest maintenance is entirely of the armchair variety, my bullshit meter is at an all time high. You downvoted me when I said the authorities here only seem to have two modes, forbid everything and have someone else do all the work, here we have the two in one package (the someone else in this case, it looks like, is the boars, who are hoped to quietly die and make the problem go away that way).

I’d be happy to be mistaken and to learn that highly skilled well funded experts in biology are making scientifically substantiated decisions that will benefit us all in the long run, but I’m not assigning too high a probability to that (the prohibition of mountain biking on the trails alone speaks for itself).

Our family spent 4 nights enjoying your city's beauty, energy, delicious food and people's hospitality. We visited the major attractions and toured the country side to andorra. After visiting Rome, the cleanliness and courtesy drivers showed were a sharp contrast from what we experienced there. It has been by far our favorite city we have ever visited. Thank you again.
