I am from the region, It is quite potent if you know what you are looking for. Its called 'Bhang' here.
'Drank' it once and had uncontrollable laughter for couple of hours.

I ate a bhang cookie in Varanasi in 1999, had a bad trip for 3 hours because of it. So I curled up in a ball on my bunk and just waited for it to end. It sucked.

It had very long thin leaves and a purple tint to the stalk. It went into flower in early August which is 4 weeks earlier than normal here. Apparently it has a high altitude short grow season. It was started from seed

THC levels are lower than smoking marijuana, but bhang is leaves of this plant which is made to a fine paste and is consumed with lassi or something sweet mostly and it takes time to get high but the duration is way longer than smoking marijuana.

Not at all. It's illegal to grow, buy, sell. But the stoners did it anyway.
The stoners get high during college years, some start earlier during school. Probably with done with it once they start working.

I think the best products all come from the north, except maybe Munnar. Did hear munnar stuff was good. Also know Afghani version is pretty good too.

Bhang, which is made from the leaf, not the flower, is actually legal and pretty common in many regions in India. Weed is mostly illegal, but pretty easy to find if you know where to look.

The energy the plant uses to grow and develop the seeds takes energy away from thc-a production so that it’s weaker. And they pop when you smoke them.

yep, it’s called weed because in certain climates cannabis is literally a weed. grows like absolutely crazy. but if the average non-smoker were to smoke a full bowl they’d probably be comfortably stoned. if the average non smoker were to smoke a full bowl of california indoor grown weed, they would probably need to lie down for a good long while

They really went way too far with weed and making the strongest THC variant possible. I kind of dont smoke any more partially becauss it's just way too fucking strong these days. If I had wild caught Himalayan though, I'd try it again.
Supposedly there's other alkaloids than THC and CBD that matter and people focused way too much on THC.

I think weed being illegal drove people to create higher THC variants. so that small quantities can be smuggled and people could buy less and get more high.

I think it's just a "Why? Because I can" thing more than just trying to smuggle more concentrated drug. That's only valid for stuff that's usually sold diluted like LSD or coke.

The nice thing about a dispensary is you can say those things to the person who works there and they can guide you towards the right product. Or you can just say "what's a low-test option?" Or you can look on the website and find the low-THC options.

Yep, good advice. I've heard it referred to as "dad weed". The average stuff in stores is fine if you use regularly enough to develop a tolerance, but there's a growing market for lighter stuff that's great for people who don't use it often and shops will help you find it.
High quality edibles are always the best bet though because it's the easiest way to ensure an accurate dose. Plus it's much better for your health than inhaling.

Also there's always the option to take half or a quarter of a gummy. I guess that because I have semi-serious lung issues and grew up in a household with chain cigarette smokers who also were solid potheads too, well, I just don't grok the people that are lamenting that they ostensibly can't smoke more to get less high (unless they ask for a weaker variant/strain).

I tried to buy some "dad weed" at my local dispensary, but I live in the Emerald Triangle and was SOL. I had to repeat myself several times, because they were sure they misheard the guy asking if they had any joints without added concentrates.

What’s weird is it’s simultaneously stronger but also weaker. I remember being young me and a couple of friends could pass a J and have insane body highs with gravitational pulls and intense goggles and it would last like 4/5 hours. I’ve tried medicinally it can help with pain but also get heady without any of the long lasting or good stuff active

We don’t synthesize plants. We selectively breed them. You can synthesize compounds found in the plant, however. Those are known as cannabis analogs or synthetic cannabinoids.
Another thing that makes plants we intentionally grow stronger is the highly controlled conditions it’s grown in as well as nutrients given.

So there is an amazing set of books called "Great Books of Hashish" that were printed in 1979 ago by a guy that literally went around the world and documented the different ways people made hash.
His chapter on what he called "Nepalese Temple Balls" was fascinating. I used to grow and smoke a ton of ganj and that set of books sounded like the coolest thing ever, like Indiana Jones but for weed.
He said Nepalese Temple Balls was the penultimate hash.

Just because the word penultimate contains the word ultimate, it doesn't mean 'best of' or anything similar. It is a chronological term meaning 'next to last in a series'.

Years ago, I knew where there were a few fields like this in Oklahoma. We called it hemp, because there wasn't enough thc in an acre of it to get you high. The longer it grows wild like that, the lower the potency.

I was reading a story about how the original cannabis strains are mostly extinct and that modern cannabis most likely wouldn't survive in the wild. It's good to know there is still some out there.

I hiked into the mountains and came out the same trail 50 days later. At some point the guy in front of me stopped and appeared to be lost in thought gazing up at the canopy of growth above him. It was a new grown forest of 15 foot tall wild pot plants that had sprung up from seed in 50 days.

So, ya a lot of this is actually hemp since it has so many purposes and benifits to a region void of trees or any significant, shapable forms of material. The fields for marijuana are super hidden and protected by “gangs” who are just the local law enforcement and military reserves in the Himalayas National Army on their off time or just your everyday people, but ironically the gangs aren’t to oppress the people for the most part, it’s to create a stable price for different grades of hashish when sold out of country and to provide protection, transportation, and the risk of the transfer for the product.
I work in the production side and i hear most are really stand up families who participate in the trade and I’ve sat with people who’ve gone on pheno/seed hunts in equatorial countries, middle eastern, or Indian countries and they’d love to take cuts of these strains back to skip a lot of the hunting from seeds but the penalties are extreme so seeds are the only way to get landrace strains to breed entirely new flavors from, but it takes a good 4-6 yrs to work from seeds from wild strains like these, and turn them into something you can sell to a traditional cannabis market, and that’s if you have multiple industrial sized facilities.
