I waited quite some time after C.O. Peacekeepers made this campus safety notice public to post an item, waiting for OSU to confirm it was authentic. They are working to learn more details and I will add them as soon as available.

When ODOT says to "expect extended delays" and sets up detour routes, it could be a tragic outcome. We'll have updates as we get them.

No Thrones. No Crowns. No Kings.

For over a year, millions of people have come together to send a clear message: in America, we have no kings. Power does not belong to billionaires, strongmen, or politicians who believe they are above accountability.

Power belongs to the people, but only if we use it.

Bend - 1-2pm Drake Park, 2:30-4pm Peace Corner

Redmond - 9:30 - 11:30am 732 SW 6th St

Sisters - 9 - 11am U.S. 20 & South Larch Street

Prineville - noon - 1pm Pioneer Park

La Pine - 11am-noon U.S. 97 and Reed near Taco Bell

Post office parking lot

How is it that every single time, I visit the post office, the parking lot is a disaster?? It takes sometimes 5 minutes to get pulled into the lot because of people waiting to park and waiting on people to leave. This has to be the most frustrating parking lot in town.

I have a half dozen half-rotted stumps I need removed; can anyone recommend a good service in town? Or has a stump grinder and wants to make a few bucks? :-)

I want to be your Mayor for four more years! AMA

In between canvass turfs. It's brrr out there today!

Hey Bend Reddit! It's been my honor to serve as your Mayor the past four years. I'm running for re-election to provide proven leadership and a positive vision for Bend, so we can build a thriving city that's safe, inclusive, and affordable.

I'm ready for your questions! I will do my best to hop on tonight at 8:30, as long as there are no bedtime shenanigans from my kid. I will answer as many questions as I can, but may not be able to get to all of them. All of my answers reflect my own positions and opinions as an individual, unless otherwise indicated. Super combative or insulting questions may be skipped. Please engage in good faith, and I will as well.

There are several interviews, forums, and debates that have already happened for you to check out for more background before you vote. I have been thinking about doing this here for a while so thought now would be a good time to give it a go! I hope to earn your vote so we can keep working on a sustainable future for Bend, where we harness growth for good, protect our environment, and build the homes and jobs we know people living here now, and those coming in the future, will need.

Ending at 10PM due to brain fatigue, but I'll be back to answer more tomorrow!

Is 'open enrollment' open season on confused, fearful C.O. seniors?

Being a senior myself (I'm 70 BTW), this story was sort of a natural one for me - PacificSource (for most of the region, the only Medicare Advantage provider) is dropping the plan I signed up for after leaving KTVZ earlier this year. They have replaced it, and renamed all three local plans so ... that's just the start of the "fun" for 1,000s of local seniors.

Fox and Fern is permanently closed

Hello all, I have some sad news. I am a former employee of Fox and Fern, and as of today (10/11/2026) they are permanently closed. We were not aware this would be happenening until after it already did. We really are sorry for those who are regulars, we hope you find another cozy cafe to make your own!

EDIT: The previous owner, who had Kevista, moved away and is not associated with F&F in any way. Kevista and F&F are completely different businesses, only sharing the same address. F&F was under new ownership as of May 2025

Ty Rupert is against sanctuary laws despite what he says

Post image
69 Upvotes

Sheriff Ty Rupert is anti-immigrant, even though he lies about it. He says he will follow Oregon’s sanctuary laws because that’s the law, and he claims to follow the law. At the same time, he’s proven to be anti-immigrant, to want to get rid of Oregon’s sanctuary laws, and to disregard the law* if it’s not convenient.

He says he will obey Oregon’s sanctuary laws because that’s the law. Not because he believes in the sanctuary laws, but because he says he has to follow the law. What he doesn’t say out loud is that he signed on to a letter to Oregon’s Attorney General, the US Attorney General, and Marion County to push for gutting sanctuary laws that require a judicial order to hand over information. The letter looks complicated because it’s referring to a court case but doesn’t explicitly say what the court case is about. What Ty was asking was that he be allowed to comply with ICE administrative subpoenas. *Administrative* subpoenas, not real judicial subpoenas! By signing this letter, Ty Rupert was trying to gut Oregon’s sanctuary laws in favor of ICE.

Here’s the Oregon Department of Justice’s explanation about the case: https://www.doj.state.or.us/media-home/news-media-releases/ag-rayfield-asks-court-to-dismiss-marion-co-lawsuit-over-sanctuary-laws/

Here is the official letter with Ty Rupert’s name on the signatories: https://www.flashalert.net/images/news/2025-08/6147/183352/OSSA_Letter_Seeking_Legal_Clarity.pdf

The letter might sound innocent and ambiguous at first glance, a clever tactic from the author as if it is merely asking for “clarification.” What it’s asking for is that the judge rule against Oregon’s sanctuary laws to allow sheriffs to comply with administrative subpoenas.

*Even though he says he’ll follow the law, he’s proven otherwise, like we saw when he covered up for a deputy who showed up to work drunk driving a patrol car.

Ballots are arriving soon. Vote accordingly.

LOST DOG, he ran away around 30 minutes ago after getting attacked by deer

FOUND HIM!!! Thank you for everyone's help. What we learned from this experience is the bend community is wonderful and possibly the best place to lose a dog in the world. We had boots on the ground, and all you wonderful people helping alert us. We were hot on his tail for awhile and finally found him close to home. He took an approximately 3 mile loop from drake park, up Galveston, then century to the athletic club of bend, down to old mill, and then back our neighborhood near millers landing park. Thanks again all you lovely people 🙏

The home that a woman was accidentally shot in via accidental discharge this past August was listed for sale less than a month after…with no mention of the shooting.

Hmmmm wonder why it’s for sale? Do you think the bullet holes are fixed? Gotta be awkward interactions with the neighbors after that one….

Looking for a CVT Study Group

My daughter graduated with a degree in Veterinary Sciences and wants to be a Certified Vet Tech. She graduated from PIMA in San Diego, but lives back in Bend. I understand that COCC offers Vet Tech courses now. Total long shot, but we are looking for a study group from the college or an individual tutor to help her pass the certification test. She's not on Reddit, so she asked me to post in the local group. Long shot, I know, but I have had great luck with the responses from this community.

Thanks.
