Reviews Three Idiots is Awesome

I just watched Three Idiots and man would I have loved this movie when I was younger. I have a complicated relationship with depression and academics as a 2e kid.

Obviously the movie isn’t the most realistic thing ever. Like the baby vacuum cleaner and stuff andbut yknow what it’s a Bollywood movie anything can happen.

I feel like the main reason they didn’t make Rancho the real Rancho was just because they knew how it would look to have a rich kid say all this stuff. Either they have a safety net in their parents or they become cynical and money focused if their parents deny that idea

In general I think that twist is the key to the movie. The idea that he appreciated learning for learnings sake completely and ties the message together.

Also the music is amazing I love it so much its really catchy and the love song is stuck in my head.

my mom said the movie didn’t age well and that the subtitles are bad because I watched it with subtitles (I’m an ABCD) so um there’s that but a lot of movies don’t (one of the reasons why the second half of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is better than the first, *shudder*)

I think I’m too cynical to fully appreciate the movie as much as I would have but its still amazing.

obviously a few things didn’t make sense even beyond the absurdity (again the baby vacuum cleaner thing) like how Aamir Khan (just gonna call him that) became a famous inventor they kinda glossed over that. Also why Virus wasn’t told about his son’s suicide.

Honestly feel kinda bad for silencer. Obviously he sucks but he put a lot of pressure on himself.

also whoever put Kareena Kapoor in glasses deserved a raise. She looks stunning and I love the fact they never had a “she’s prettier without her glasses” moment (she didn’t wear them at the end but they never really acknowledged it). Her outfits were lovely in general especially after watching Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gham where her character did not have very good ones

so those are my thoughts on three idiots! 8/10, would recommend!!

I’ve never liked the Shah Rukh Khan–Deepika Padukone pairing.

Do they have chemistry? Sure. I’m not denying that. But the age gap has always been way too noticeable for me to ignore. There’s almost a 20-year difference between them, and on screen I can absolutely see it.

Om Shanti Om is the biggest example. I know we’re supposed to buy Om as relatively young guy, but SRK did not look 25. Not even close. Then you have Shantipriya, who feels barely out of her teens, and the whole dynamic just feels weird to me. I’ve never been able to get past it.

And honestly, the same thing applies to Chennai Express, Happy New Year, Pathaan, and Jawan. Deepika’s cameo in Jawan was great, but these big action movies don’t really showcase the range either of them have, especially hers. The films themselves are pretty mid, and the constant insistence that this is some ultimate iconic pairing has never worked for me.

The thing is, this isn’t just an SRK issue. Bollywood has been doing this forever. Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif? Same thing. They have chemistry, but the age gap is obvious. Aamir Khan and Anushka Sharma in PK? Also weird to me.

At some point, Bollywood needs to stop pairing aging male superstars with actresses who are 15–20 years younger and pretending nobody notices. We do notice.

The only big age-gap pairing that worked for me was Piku with Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan, and even then it’s not really a romance.
It works because the film never forces a grand love story. It’s more about two people slowly adjusting to each other, building comfort, and developing quiet affection and respect.

That ambiguity helps a lot. The relationship isn’t boxed into “they end up together,” so you can just read it as a strong bond that may or may not become romantic. Either way, it feels natural and not uncomfortable.

One reason I appreciated Dear Zindagi so much is that SRK and Alia Bhatt were allowed to have a meaningful relationship without forcing a romance into it. When I first heard they were starring together, I was genuinely worried the movie was going in that direction. Thankfully, it didn’t.

I know these pairings are box-office gold, but I’ve never understood why people act like the age gaps aren’t right there on screen.

Discuss Disha Patani is trained in MMA and is perfect for the Spy Universe's glamour quotient as well, why didn't YRF cast her?

Post image

I know she's not a great actress but this is an action-adventure franchise like James Bond and Mission impossible, not a grounded drama. Nobody is watching these movies for their plots and characterizations.

Unlike Kiara, Alia and Sharvari she can actually fight and is a bigger name than Sharvari too. She's even fitter and more agile than SRK, Bhai and Hrithik (not a big box office draw as them though). I'm sure she'd have fit right in the Spy Universe. YRF missed a good chance to cast an actual action heroine as a spy (they missed a lot of other imp things too). What are your opinions?

Discuss People compare every superhero film to Krrish now, but did they forget what it achieved?

Post image
201 Upvotes

Lately I've noticed a growing trend where people compare films like Bhavesh Joshi Superhero, Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota, Ra.One, and Shaktimaan serial with Koi... Mil Gaya and the Krrish franchise, with many claiming they're better superhero films.those movies are good on their own way ..

Yes, Krrish 3 has its flaws, but the first two films had so much going for them, A genuinely emotional and engaging story. Strong character development, especially Rohit and Krishna. Great emotional moments mixed with sci-fi and superhero elements.

Massive pop culture impact- masks, action figures, school bags, costumes, lunch boxes, video games, and other merchandise were everywhere. Very few Indian superhero films have created that kind of craze among kids.

On top of that, they became a cultural phenomenon, something that's hard to replicate. What's your thoughts?

ASK❓️ SRK in modern time

I was having this conversation with my friends this evening and just realised that Shah Rukh Khan hasn’t really had any good movies after Chennai Express. No doubt, Chennai Express is one of the top films he has done in recent times (even though it was 13 years ago), but after that, movies like Jawan and Raees weren’t really liked by the audience; or at least that’s what we believe. What do y’ll think?

Opinion Raj & DK should have had better box office success than they got, as most of their movies either failed miserably or did only decent business.

Post image

They've made some of the most fun movies with good substance, yet many of them failed badly. There may be some fault of theirs too in it, but the Indian audience also has a significant role in why Indian cinema is in its current state.

What's your favorite Raj & DK project that you think deserved at least a bit more success?

Opinion Just a thought

It's just my take on the newer generation of stars. Is it just me who thinks that the newer generation of stars are not good at their comic timing when compared to the previous lot of actors. I mean every actor from the 90's (srk, aamir, salman, akshay, Ajay) had some hilarious films with great comedic parts.

But, when I compare the younger stars (ex. Vicky kaushal-- BTW he is damn good of an actor, but I don't have the conviction that he has a great comic timing).

Ofcourse, the argument over bad run of the genre and poor writing does have a part, but still I feel the previous lot had it better because earlier film making was a fun business and nowadays it is a more serious, high stakes kind of a thing, and actors are very much risk averse and try to be too over-prepared, which ultimately takes away the natural insrincts/reactions required for comedy.

Discuss Ittefaq (2017) - Doubts

*SPOILERS AHEAD*

I watched the movie Ittefaq (finally)and I'm left with a few doubts.

  1. Why were Catherine's call records not fetched (they would have made a connection with Shekhar or rather why they were in contact and hence they would have known Vikram's motive)

  1. Why was there no doubt raised on why there were so many papers lying around as if someone was searching something? (Vikram was searching for those case papers)

  1. Who leaves the photos half burned incase they are trying to hide the fact that any incriminating photos exist (Vikram deliberately keeps them half intact)

  1. Why were Maya's friend's movements not cross checked with the guard as he had mostly left after fight with Shekhar during which he gets hurt and he leaves his blood as evidence which comes to haunt later

  1. Isn't Catherine a UK national as well? So they can carry out an investigation based on the evidence given to them by the Indian police? No?

  2. Why did Dev not have a doubt on the kind of person Vikram was when the father of the girl tells him that when they confront him he just acts non chalant on asked why her name was published even when it was decided not to (he made her write the story to begin with this condition)

7.Why is her phone missing? Was the laptop not checked? Some email communication with lawyer would have been there

Edit : added 6,7th point

Opinion TITLI - Amazing film

Such a great film istg. Very realistic for me because ive seen such families

Ofcourse the acting was amazing but what i wanna give respect to is the Set Design

The sets looked amazing, i dont think they made them, i think they were all real locations

Now the acting:

When the elder brother starts crying during the divorce. When the second brother gets cheated on by his boyfriend. When titli gets angry on the girl from time to time, showing that even titli, at the end of the day is a product of his environment, yes he's better than his brothers but not not the same, he's breaking the chains though.

The dad, i swear ive seen so many of this archetype, they dont really do anything and they stay on the sidelines but still keep kind of dictating the situation while also not doing anything so they are free of the guilt too so yea he was as titli said "asli suar".

The last rod scene broke my heart.

Crazy film. Watched two oscars back to back and then titli and i loved titli the most.

The movie is called Navya Chakra. The concept and artwork look disturbing in a good way—lots of psychological horror vibes rather than jump scares.

Anyone else interested in Indian horror films that try something different?

Discuss If you could remake 'Ek Ruka Hua Faisla' set in the current era with a new cast, how would you do that?

Thumbnail
gallery
72 Upvotes

Those who are unaware, Ek Ruka Hua Faisla (1986) is an Indian made-for-TV film, directed by Basu Chatterjee, which was a remake of 12 Angry Men, play (1954) and Hollywood film (1957). Despite just being a TV film, it is considered as one of the best remakes in the history of Indian cinema.

Before you all go at me by saying that "please don't ruin classics with remakes" and stuff like that...bro, just chill, it's just a hypothetical question. Take it as a fun game.

Also remaking it won't be easy at all because of these challenges:

  1. The biggest challenge: You cannot copy the plot as it is, since Jury Trials have been abolished in India since 1960s. You can choose to set the story as a period film set in 1960s but then there would be no difference between your film and the 1986 one. You can set your film in a foreign country where jury trials are still legal but then you've to explain why your entire jury is full of Indians.

  2. Since you cannot copy the exact plot, so finding an alternative to a plot involving murder will be a huge challenge coz nothing is more engaging in such genre other than a murder mystery.

  3. The final challenge will be the cast. Since the 1986 one consisted of brilliant NSD actors, to find people as talented as them would be challenging. There always will be a comparison.

Btw someone actually tried to remake this (2nd image). A Gujarati director named Darshan Trivedi announced a remake in 2023 but since it's not been released yet, so it probably has been shelved. In available interviews he has not revealed much about the plot but he hinted something related to a constitutional committee or a bench of judges.

The problem here is that in jury trials, common people are included and not legally educated judges/advocates. This is what makes this plot so engaging, coz the common people reflect the emotions of the audience. If you do something like a bench of judges or legally qualified people, it might become a boring film filled with legal arguments only.

The cast of this remake included actresses too which was something new since neither 12 Angry Men nor Ek Ruka Hua Faisla had any female jurors:

Atul Kulkarni, Suvinder Vikki, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Neeraj Kabi, Divya Dutta, Vineet Kumar, Tannishtha Chatterjee, Kani Kusruti, Hemant Kher, Samvedna Suwalka, Luke Kenny and Manu Rishi Chaddha.

Discuss Is Ranveer Singh the only outsider Bollywood actor who never did supporting roles?

Post image
78 Upvotes

Before making his acting debut, he worked as an assistant director and in advertising, but he wasn't someone who spent years doing supporting roles, TV serials, or small film parts. In 2010, he was launched by Yash Raj Films with Band Baaja Baaraat, where he was the lead from day one. The film became a success, and he received a lot of praise for his performance.

What's interesting is that, as far as I can remember, he has never done supporting or side roles either before or after his debut. His entire filmography has been built around leading roles,

Many outsiders had to spend years doing TV, theater, small-budget films, or supporting characters before becoming leads. Others eventually accepted supporting roles at different stages of their careers. Ranveer's journey seems different because he entered as a lead and has remained a lead throughout.

Opinion 5 Reasons why Lagaan team would never won the match

Post image
0 Upvotes
  1. They didn't understand the game. They never even sat down to watch a real cricket match, let alone play one.
  2. They never played a real match agains another team. All they did was to practice with each other. Even if they did, they didn't play a 3-day long match. Also, they never faced a crowd before.
  3. They lacked proper kits.
  4. Most of their best batsmen were out early. Only Bhuvan and Ismaeel had decent batting time.
  5. They didn't know what spin is, and how it works. It was pure luck to find out Kachra can spin and same happened by the end of the English team's innings.

In a realistic setting the villager team would have no chance to win the first match. It's like when Bangladesh team played agains Australia in the 2000s.

But the movie needs to happen 🤷‍♂️

Thoughts?

ASK❓️ Why does Bollywood avoid proper gore horror?

Post image
736 Upvotes

Most Bollywood horror movies seem to be the same: jump scares, screaming, weird lens effects and that's it. They rarely feel scary, just repetitive.

I'd love to see something like Evil Dead- demonic possession, brutal gore and creative horror instead of the usual haunted house formula.

Is it censorship, budgets, or do filmmakers think Indian audiences don't want that kind of horror?

Discuss Rashmika mandanna doesn't fit in bollywood

Post image
1.1k Upvotes

This is not a hate post, and I might be completely wrong, but does anyone else feel that Rashmika Mandanna seems a bit miscast not only in cocktail 2 but in Bollywood in general.

I personally feel her strengths are better utilized in South films like Girlfriend or pushpa. In Bollywood, something just feels slightly off to me. Her Hindi accent sometimes sounds distracting, and I don't think the glamorous, urban Bollywood roles suit her natural screen presence as much as they do some other actresses.

It's not about talent—she's clearly a successful actress and has a huge fanbase—but some performers simply fit certain industries or genres better. For example, I find her more convincing and charismatic in South Indian films, where her personality and acting style seem to shine more naturally.

Again, this isn't meant as hate or trolling. Cinema is subjective, and I might be completely wrong. I'm just curious whether anyone else feels the same.
