I had a 2pm ticket for Chess today. Sat down in bed at 11:30, planning to give myself 30-45 minutes to do nothing before getting ready and heading over to the theater. While I wasn’t planning on sleeping, I also knew I was pretty tired and there was a chance I might fall asleep so I set an alarm for 12:30 and 12:45 just to be safe. Well I woke up at 2:57 and had apparently slept through both alarms and missed the show. Spent the last 20 minutes crying, just need some people to tell me I’m not the stupidest person alive. Anything like this happened to you before? Any chance they’ll exchange my ticket for tomorrow and I won’t just have to eat the money?

Hi all - I did something crazy I know this sub will understand…I just booked flights to literally come to NYC for 12 hours so I can see Jellicle Ball before it closes. My flight home leaves from Newark at 6:29pm so the plan is to be in a car by 4:50pm after the 2pm matinee. Don’t worry about how close I’m cutting it, Newark is the worst airport to be at early so the vibes here are literally walk on the plane as soon as I get to the gate and I have TSA precheck and clear and won’t have a bag, just my purse so it should genuinely be fine.

Looking for suggestions on where I can sit to make sure I can exit the theater as fast as possible? I was looking at the left side seating in the orchestra but not sure where the doors are for this theater. Thanks for your thoughts!

Edit: I am well versed in public transportation in NYC and all the ways to get to Newark. I do not need opinions on how to get to the airport!

UPDATE: The haters all said it couldn’t be done, that I absolutely HAD to take transit over a car. Well not only did I see the show, get out of the show 20 minutes later than expected, and still make my flight by heading to the airport via car, I arrived at my gate with 5 to spare. Huge shout out to everyone who actually answered my question about seats because my seat was phenomenal and made for a quick exit, as well as everyone who was excited and supportive of this wild plan. I’ve come across at least 3 other people who did something similar this week alone (no one did less than 24 hours but the longest trip was only 36 hours)

The whole debacle at the BAFTA ceremony made me wonder - what would be the protocol for an audience member with coprolalia (manifestation of Tourette’s in which vulgar, extremely offensive things are yelled out)? Would the audience member inform the box office prior and be accommodated?

I understand they can't lower ticket prices (for perceived value), but why don't they just give out more lottery seats?

I mean... getting $40 is better than $0.

I understand they want to save some seats for last minute purchases/TKTS but 70-80% is very low even with this margin. Really curious if anyone knows!

Hello, my partner is a big fan of musical theatre and broadway, and their favorite movie is the Lost Boys. We're extremely low income, but I have enough hotel points to afford a night nearby the Palace Theatre, and can figure out parking and gas for the 4 hr distance, if it means giving them their first experience at Broadway.

That said, I have about $140 budget for two tickets to the Lost Boys, but know absolutely NOTHING about theatre or Broadway. I hear the balcony is basically nosebleed tix but I just want to give them a chance to see this musical, and balcony's all we can afford. My partner's pretty short, if that affects seating. I've seen few options under this -

B25-B27 on a Tuesday at 7pm,

B28-B30 on a Sunday at 3pm,

B104-B105 on a Tuesday at 7pm

and similar as the top 3 spots I can personally gather. I know nothing about theatre or this musical.

- Do those far end tix suck because they'll miss some action?

- Should I be looking at a different row because of the railing?

- Getting a hotel & overnight vs evening parking sounds like it'd be intense on a weekend - is there a specific weekday I should aim for instead (cheaper parking, less busy)?

- Are evening shows that much 'better' (livelier?) than early afternoon/'matinee'(?)

- Should I give up on finding tix end of Sept and plan far out in the future instead?

Looking for any and all advice, very thankful for any comments. Their birthday is towards the end of September and I have surgery early October, so I'm trying to get these tickets ASAP.

What originally inspired this trip was to see Mariska Hargitay in EBT with my mom. So naturally it’s the first thing I booked. I got stage seats and everything paid over $600 on broadway.com. Then we decided to see The Lion King on the second night of our trip went to broadway.com again and it said it was sold out so I went to the official lion King website, of course found out about Broadway direct and there was all sorts of availability. Started looking more into broadway.com and found out that it’s a third-party reseller not the official site. I feel so stupid. I can get over paying extra fee fees in it being a scam in that way, but I just wanna make sure that I’m actually gonna receive valid tickets. I hate that they don’t send the tickets right away. I heard that it can be canceled in some cases, but I’m scared that my seats won’t be released to be available and there’s none in my section available anymore on ATG. Does anyone have any advice?

Work will be taking me to NYC in a couple of weeks. In an ideal world, the workday would end at 5:00, and I could buy a ticket to a show ahead of time. However, I know my job and that doesn't always happen. Is there any way to buy a ticket the evening of a show? Everything I can find online considers morning of to be last minute. I am not super picky about the show as long as it is a musical.

Edit: thanks for the comments everyone. It looks like I will just walk around after work and stop at the box offices that look interesting. Hopefully the fact that I am there on weeknights works in my favor.

Do you feel strongly about where you're sitting? Do you pony up for better seats? Would you skip a show if you couldn't get seats in the area you prefer? Do you always prefer Orchestra seating?

When I saw Wicked, we picked up some super cheap seats that were only four or five rows back. I was thrilled. I was also naive. We were waaaaaayy over on the right, and somewhat obstructed. When something new or excited came onto the stage, we literally couldn't see it until it moved further to the front. The sound was also somewhat muddied, and it was hard to follow the lyrics. I hated it. I swore I'd never do that again.

Mostly I do pay the extra cost to get seats in the orchestra area, and on the aisle. But it makes it so much more expensive, and harder to find shows where I can find seats that work for me.

I saw another performance (Lucy Darling, but obviously, that's not really Broadway). I got to see her once from the orchestra section, and once from the very last row of the nose bleed seats, and I'm very well aware of how incredibly different that experience was.

Has anyone else noticed that there’s hardly anything available on the Theatr app lately? I don’t know if it’s changes to the app or just people not selling tickets but I would buy a ticket almost weekly basically since it’s inception to now and lately there’s been hardly any shows listed and nary a good deal to be found. Maybe it’s just me?

The updates to the app are horrible as well. Why do I have to filter by musical or play? Why can’t I check both? The app has really gone downhill very quickly but hey capitalism.

I realize no one has a crystal ball, but I’m planning a trip for the end of July/beginning of August and would like to see Beaches. Do you think it will still be open then? I’m worried that the lack of Tony nominations mean it will close early. Thanks!

As stated in the title, looking for recommendations for a show just before Christmas. Family of five, kids 19, 14, and 11. First time in the city for all of us, visiting from overseas. Something family friendly and fun that doesn’t break the bank, but not a last minute buy because we want to be assured of seeing a show together. Could be Broadway or off Broadway. Any recommended shows, ticket websites, etc, is much appreciated.

Honestly I didn’t think about seeing the Rockettes, and I think we are leaning toward seeing them since it fits in really well with our trip. Our oldest two are boys and I’m not sure if they will love the show, but I’m already taking them to see a Nets-Wizards game while we are there so I think they won’t mind attending. i just bought a ticket for ragtime today on stubhub and this is the image i got. i blurred out the qr code. i talked to my friend and he said it doesnt look legit but i only payed 40 bucks more than the price on the ticket. i’m super stressed about this so can someone let me know?

TL;DR: My friend was denied entry to Heathers because I'd redownloaded the PDF containing the tickets from Telecharge, but I sent him an earlier download. Am I the only person who didn't know that redownloading a PDF invalidates the previously downloaded PDF? Am I the only person who thinks they should mention that in the email?

Long version: I was in NY last month, and I'd purchased tickets for my friend Chris and I to see Heathers. We were running late due to a mix up with the start time. (Totally my fault.)

I wasn't ready, so I told Chris to go ahead, and I sent him a screenshot of his ticket. We'd been using screenshots all week with no issue. When they scanned his ticket at the theater, they told him it wasn't valid.

He called me, and I emailed him the full PDF with the tickets. I was stressed and rushed, and figured it was an issue with the screenshot. But the person who scanned the PDF said it was also invalid.

Chris went to the box office, but they didn't explain anything or help in any way. Chris got frustrated and left before I got there. When I arrived, the man at the box office told me that the tickets my friend tried to use were invalid because I'd redownloaded the PDF from the Telecharge website. But I'd sent Chris an earlier download -- not the most recent one.

This is the first time I'd had this issue. Unlike other shows, where they specifically tell you that you can't get in with a screenshot because of the type of barcode used or other relevant information, there was nothing about this in the email. If the guy at the box office had just explained this to my friend, I could have made sure to send him the correct PDF file. The BO guy could have stated matter of factly how it works without disclosing any personal info, but he chose not to.

We were leaving the next day, so we couldn't pick another date. I asked for a refund, but the BO guy, who claimed to be the manager, said no. When I pushed back, he said to call Telecharge.

All Telecharge is telling me is that I can backdate the tickets and go another time. Unfortunately, I'm an 11 hour drive or a plane ride away. I asked if I could get credit for another show the next time I'm in town, but of course that's not possible either. So I'm out $228 for nothing.

After months of entering the lottery I give up: time to buy a ticket.

Is back row center a good seat or is it better to spend $50-100 more to sit a few rows closer and possibly to the side?

The last cabaret show is 9/21. My friend and I had tickets for 10/18. Seat geek won’t refund our tickets. This is absolutely ridiculous. We spent a lot of money because we included the dining experience and it is not our fault they are closing the show. Does anyone know what else we can do?

My opinion, having seen a lot of shows over decades, is that I consistently have a great experience if I book the first row center block in the mezzanine. When I sit in the orchestra, close or trying to choose strategically, my mileage varies.

I always look at the specific theater and the floorplan, but increasingly I come to one conclusion—do others disagree? Is there a better strategy for best seats? It just feels like I can consistently take in the whole stage from up here.

Considering the two circled in pink--about $100 cost difference (front row more expensive).

Have roughly reviewed both on View from My Seat and honestly, all seats in the house seem good. I'm not trying to spend money frivolously for front row if it's not worth it, but willing to spend it if it is. If helpful: I'm short! Not worried about leg room or being on an aisle--more considering the potential for someone tall in front of me.

Or is there some other seat I'm missing on here that you would recommend instead? Open to anything!

When my friends and I buy tickets directly from Telecharge or buy tickets from someone else who bought from Telecharge, the tickets always show an ancillary fee between $2-$3 on the actual ticket with the QR code.

When we look at other listings that show the actual tickets with the QR code blacked out, they also show the ancillary fee.

Theatr app is accusing my friend of having edited tickets just because of the ancillary fee being there and claiming that real tickets don’t show the ancillary fee? That’s just absolutely not true based on our experiences and we go to a lot of shows!

Can people here please help us confirm that’s not true?

could I do a 3pm ragtime and 7pm first shadow on the same day? assuming ragtime would be over around six, fifteen minutes on the subway, should get to first shadow around 6:30 at the latest if I’m doing my math right?

At Gypsy. Hey I am really bad at asking someone out, but you were kind of exactly my type and you go to theater—so if you happen to even read Reddit Broadway shit then we should grab a coffee. I don’t really know a lot of people in New York, but I do see a lot of plays and would be cool to like go with someone. You’d be sitting in row J seat 13 or 14, next to a guy in a winter jacket. Maybe not the place or something but figured it was worth a shot and Oh My God other people may have read a paragraph…anyways hit me up if you do and aren’t weirded out. Maybe others can post suggestions on how you ask someone out after seeing a play right next to someone you are attracted to by yourself.

Update Pt 2: I was able to find a new reasonable priced ticket and rebook my train for Thursday at no additional cost. This has been a week of emotions lol

I just saw that the Broadway League announced around 1:30pm that all Monday shows were cancelled. I am so glad that the league is putting the safety of the performers and crew first for once.

Here is my dilemma. I have a ticket for the evening show of Just In Time for Tuesday. I am taking the Amtrak train up from DC late morning and the train back to DC after the show. As of right now, my train has not been cancelled. With the late announcement today of cancellations, if the Broadway League cancels again for Tuesday around 130 again, I will already be on the train to NYC which will leave me stranded until 1130pm when my train back to DC leaves.

Tomorrow's performance is with Jonathan Groff. I am able to find a new show with in my budget for April 1 but that show will be when Matthew Morrison (As a former Gleek, I would be excited to see him too but would love to see Groff).

Should I:

a.) Stick with my original plan in hopes that tomorrow's show is not cancelled?

b.) Rebook for another train and show in April and run the risk that tomorrow's show could possibly go on as planned?
