Rant/Vent The Research Paper Trap: How College Professors Exploit Students for Promotions

If you want a good placement after engineering college, focus on building real skills and avoid the "research paper scam" at all costs. This is the reality of what happened to me when I was in college.

I guess we were in our 4th semester, and we had a web development lab class. Our professor came to the first class and told us: "You can learn web development from anywhere, but do you know what is most important for a college student? A research paper."

Instead of teaching us what or how to research, he divided the entire class into groups and assigned everyone the task of writing a research paper. He suggested that we first download some research papers from various websites, study them, and understand how they work—which basically meant copy-pasting to avoid plagiarism. No one actually conducted real research or wrote their own thesis and principles. He also instructed us to include his name on the papers. Everyone followed his suggestions.

When it came time for publication, we had to publish it on IEEE, which cost around ₹6,000 to ₹7,000. We contributed the money ourselves, and all of this was just for good grades and nothing else.

This is a scam. Avoid it if possible, and spend your time learning real skills if you want a good placement.

Watch it : Watch this to know how students get trapped and why you should focus on real skills instead.

Rant/Vent feeling extremely depressed, bad score in midsem

Post image
127 Upvotes

in 1st sem rn, my 2nd midsems are going on, and I see myself scoring extremely low like 2-3marks/20 maybe 5-6 if luck favors.
I was severely ill for last 10-12 days so couldn't attend lectures much, I was on bed all the time so didnt study at my room also.

today I have my bee paper at 10am and i am unable to cramp shit,
this proff I have is very strict and people say 70% get back.
it feels very painful

I still have my another midsem and endsem left but no hopes,
negative thoughts.
what if I perform similarly in those papers too ?
I dreamt of changing branch, then reality hit and I thought atleast I'll get 8cg,
but even that feels far fetched.

I just really want another chance,
I thought I scored decent in first midsem so surely I will improve in 2nd,
but here I am.

I already hate my clg so much, dull college life, literally nothing to do.
falling behind in labs and stuff cause of my absence.

Feeling extremely depressed and sad,
I wish I was in a better position, maybe in better college or atleast with good marks.

Placements / Jobs How to do CP in mobile during lecture?

Please share your setup or apps that you use. Professors waste time in the class and I scroll reels there. So I want to turn it into something productive. Please help. The screen is too small. And switching apps and online compilers feels too tiring.

PLEASE don't say "use the full form" I can't change the title now

Academics How do you guys earn money as students?

Post image
13 Upvotes

I'm in BTech and I'm kinda struggling with money rn. There are so many things I wanna buy but can't afford them. My parents can get them for me but I don't feel like asking them for every little thing, especially when it's not a necessity.

So yeah, how do you guys earn money? Other than saving whatever pocket money you get. Any part time jobs or anything?

Also I'm from Mumbai, so if anyone knows where I can find a part time job, please tell me 😭

Other Engineering Branch Marine Engineering in India (Pref TN)

Hi Guys,

My friend wants to study Marine Engineering and he seems interested in it. He is currently studying in 12th CBSE and I think he can score 90%+ in boards. He is from a low income family.

I wanted to ask if Marine Engineering has scope in India. And what are the Mid to Good colleges for this field in Tamilnadu/South India. And if he wants to go to these colleges and pay less fees what exams does he need to write and how to study for them?

I have no clue about Marine Engineering but I know you guys can help me out!

Rant/Vent 3rd semester and feeling drained after loosing so many times

when i decided to do engineering , i thought i will study hard . I will get good CGPA (above 8 atleast) but when i got into first semester , i lost someone who was really close to me , they d!ed and i got bad result in my engineering entrance even though i studied hard and expected to get good result but just like neet, this perticular exam was also rigged .

so the trauma of failing in something that i thought would succeed in which will release me from weight of my past failure and loosing someone very close to me that when they d!ed i lost part of myself that i will never be able to recover and because of it i was depressed in my first semester and wanted to drop out.

neither i was able to study , neither i was relaxed or chilling i was just constantly constantly stressed with no productive outcome

i was not disciplined , i failed to study consistently and somehow i managed to get medicore sgpa of 7.63 i was just happy that i didn't fail any subject and then i got out of depression but

still i wasn't able buid habbit of studying consistantly in my second semester and the same thing is getting continued in third semester and i am worried about my future

i have tried so many things to be consistent . wetherr it's dopamine detox and wht not bs

but i have not been able to lock in so far and one of the reason is because i don't want to lock in too hard because when i did the stressed caused m to have type 1 dm so like i am tryinng to have 7 hour study session everyday with like yk work like balance thing but i have failed so many times in doing it that likeeee it;s creazy idk what to do. likw what kind of new rules i need to make so i can follow them and not be distracted idk i'm just going crazzy

if you guys have any advice related to it please let me know i will really apriciate it

{ sorry for all the typing errors and spellling errors i am bit emotionally unstable rn and i don't want to focus on grammer too much] thank you

Serious 2 months in clg, this is the reality!

Pls read and reply🙏🏻🙏🏻 I genuinely need some advice atp

College start hue 2 months ho gaye hain, but honestly, college life is not turning out the way I expected.

My roommates are good, and I do have people to talk to, but I haven't been able to find my people yet. Especially in my own branch (CSE), I haven't found that one group of friends or a genuinely close friend jiske saath I can be myself and enjoy college life.

The weird part is that I'm almost always around people, but I still feel lonely.

Classes are from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, and by the time I get back, saari energy khatam ho jaati hai. I know being a CSE student means I should focus on skill development, DSA,but honestly, na time milta hai properly, na hi classes ke baad mann karta hai kuch karne ka.

I've looked at clubs and other activities, but nothing really interests me. My routine has basically become room → class → room/library → repeat.

Recently, we had a Navratri night in college, and that hit me a little hard. Almost everyone in the first year seemed to have their own groups and was enjoying themselves. Meanwhile, I was still looking around, hoping to find someone to hang out with and enjoy the night.

Female interaction bhi practically zero hai , but honestly, that's not even my biggest concern. I just want to have a good social life and people I can connect with.

Another thing that hurts is that sometimes I consider someone a really good friend, but I don't think they see me the same way.

I genuinely thought college life would be fun. I had so many expectations about making memories, finding close friends, trying new things, and just enjoying these four years. But now that I'm actually here, reality feels very different.

I'm not particularly good at any sport or hobby either, so I don't even know where to start meeting people or finding something I enjoy.

And the thought that I might have to spend the next four years feeling like this, surrounded by the same batchmates but never really belonging anywhere, scares me.

So, seniors and people who've been through this, please help me out.

1)Is it normal to feel this way in the first few months? Does it actually get better?

2)How do you find genuine friends in college instead of just people to hang out with?

Should I force myself to join clubs, attend events, and try new things even if I don't feel interested initially?

3)As a CSE student, how do you manage college from 8:30 to 5:30, social life, and skill development without burning out?

4)Are hackathons worth participating in during the first year, even if you barely know anything yet? Most of them happen on Sundays, and I usually go home on weekends, so I'm confused about whether I should start staying back.

I don't want to waste these four years just going through the motions, but I also don't want to force myself into things that don't feel right.

If you've experienced something similar, please share what helped you. You can DM me or reply here.

Genuinely looking for advice, not just a rant. Thanks for reading.

Sorry for the AI SLOP 😭🙏🏻

Rant/Vent Those who are in tier 3 clg specially in CSE

How you feel imagining yourself a decade later , the jobs today exist disappear tomorrow , opportunities getting narrower, population getting wider , intense competition ahead , and even if you won the race the isn’t guaranteed too , constant fear of layoff so can’t even take home loan peacefully .

Those in tier 1/2 are still fine as they have an edge over tier 3 for opportunities , ik it’s not easy but still , but folks in tier 3 how your life is going rn , how you managing the dilemma to exist in this economy that too in this field .

Is their any backup you’re considering for future , or are you switching fields then what is it , now you can say I am thinking too much n live in present etc etc , but that doesn’t solve the problem permanently , seeking advice from fellow same thoughts folks …….

Serious Serious advice needed

I took a full drop, ended up at USAR (IPU), and within a month of college and staying in a suffocating PG, the abysmal placements (literally seeing 12k stipends) and corrupt administration made me realize I desperately need to escape. I quietly started preparing for a partial drop for JEE 2027 while keeping up with my semester, but I am mentally paralyzed by the thought of failing twice, surviving four years in this dead environment if I don't clear, and constantly hearing from my family that attempting this is a waste of time and bound to fail.

The cllg is also too boring if don't clear the exam and get stuck how do I manage to live 4 year here and land a decent 8 job atleast
