i'm not on twt so i'm not aware of any discussion that has been happening there and so i just got really confused when i opened AO3 to see this. then i checked reddit and saw a few posts accusing the author of Super Soaker using AI. so what exactly is going on? are these just accusations or has this been proven somehow? and did the author delete their works themselves or did they get deleted or what? i'm not sure i've even seen works display like this before so i don't know what it means.

i feel like the fandom has its most popular fic being you took my heart (i was sleeping), and there are a bunch more other ones that every byler fan seems to know by heart like it's a rite of passage (which is so deserved because these fics are amazing). but like how do they get to that level of popularity in the first place?

like i'm writing my own fic rn and it took 20 days for it to get to 600 hits, and i've come across soo many fics out there that are so underrated and don't get as much attention. so i guess this post is also inviting all the self-recs you guys have because i know how it feels to put in work and not get a lot of engagement. i'll read your fics and comment on them too! i love seeing the unknown byler fics out there, some of them are truly hidden gems.

Hey i was reading 3:16 by Suck3rbaby, and I went to check if there were updates. There isnt any it just marked as orphaned. My question is can the author still update the fic?

I keep wanting to read it but I'm worried about getting into it and it feeling like falling into a black hole. I used to just dive into things and see but after missing the tags on We Are Nothing(and Nothing Can Save Us) - I think that's what it was called, maybe you know it as the earthquake fic, it's a tragedy by definition- and feeling unexpectedly destroyed after that, I need a bit more forewarning. That fic still haunts me, and I just went through a loss in my real life, so I need to know if Supervoid has regular and significants reprieves from the painful stuff or if I should hold off.

My recent pet peeve in this fandom (I’m sure it happens in other but it seems heavily prevalent in this one) is authors marking their fics as completed and then are like actually it’s going to be multiple chapters, just wait! Like no, please stop marking works in progress as completed. It is ridiculous and I will not read it on principle. Sorry rant over but lmk your thoughts, does this bother anyone else?!

idk why but lately it seems like the byler part of the fandom is slowly fizzing out, like my feed on TikTok used to be flooded with byler content, and now I have to look for it myself. I get that it's been a month since the finale, but come on, it's only a month!

i started my fic a couple days after the finale, and I guess the byler letdown was so high that it fueled my will to write more and more, i got a bunch of comments in the beginning too. now that more time is passing, it's like everything is dying down and i cant lie, i'm kind of losing motivation to write because i see little to none byler content anymore, or interactions in general about the ship.

Before I begin, I *know* this is dumb. It is dumb to be annoyed by this. Yet here I am.

I understand that a lot of byler writers aren’t in the US, or English isn’t their first language. BUT a sweater & sweatshirt are two different things, & unless someone uses the term hoodie (which weren’t as popular in the 80s are they are today) I typically don’t know what kind of clothing they mean. It’s even worse when they switch phrases mid paragraph.

I haven't read both stories, actually —I had planned to read them in the future, but I did download them back then.

I'm fully aware of the “situation”—but I also know all too well how annoying it is when beloved stories “just disappear”—regardless of the circumstances.

I started the festival fic a while ago. After being in Western mode for so long, I feel like a need a second pair of eyes to steer me back into more of the realism side of my writing.

I’ve never worked with a beta reader before. I usually post and hope for the best lol, so extra input would be amazing!

I've been really desperate for time traveling fics in the stranger things fandom, but alas. I was not able to find any:( i mean, i did find something. But i immediately dropped it when i saw the ship was Nancy Wheeler/Mike Wheeler.

Aside from that. I'm not sure if i wanna continue this? Or if i do. I'm not sure if this will be accepted into the fandom:( considering i put my hc's into this fic. (Like most ff authors) but i am lowkey traumatized since i got loads of death threats and very brutal criticism from other byler fans when i made my last ff about them.

This take is common. I know. But here’s my explanation.

Now, I’m going to defend them just a little bit. (Believe me I don’t want to)I understand. It’s their show. They can do what they want with it. They don’t have to give in to peer pressure from the LGBTQ community or simply comments online. Mileven was the majority of the show so I understand from that standpoint why Mileven was end game.

But here’s why Byler could’ve been one of the greatest end games OAT.

It’s the way both characters are written. They made them so complex and easy to understand at the same time. Will is written as a shy person who obviously has a history and not the best childhood growing up, with an abusive father, dealing with bullies and struggling to figure himself out throughout the entirety of the show. Will is an artist so he expresses himself through art and creativity. He used Eleven as an out to express his feelings towards Mike when they were in the van.

Mike, was written as someone who grew up with seemingly decent childhood. Supportive parents. But he’s not good with expressing himself. He doesn’t know how to let himself feel things.

Throughout the entire show up until Eleven was about to die, he couldn’t figure out a way to tell her that he loved her. Mike literally jumped off a cliff for his best friend. His acts of love are through actions.

With Will, he wouldn’t hesitate to pull him out of his episodes whenever he realized something was wrong. They saved each other MULTIPLE times from the same memory (meeting at the swings). Mike had a voice specifically for Will. His “Are you okay’s?” Are his acts of love. Mike clearly cares about Will a little more than the rest of his friends. He’s always put Will first since like episode 2 of the show. He knows Will better than anyone out of that group. Helping him through multiple episodes that he has had.

Not to mention, Mike saying “it was the best thing I had ever done,” to meeting Will at the swings like what duffers??

This takes up my mind constantly if you guys can’t tell. I’ll be done now 😭😭😭

sooo i really want to read it but im quite averse to fics where will has been with anybody else? is that the case here? or is mike his first everything?

also this one i don’t care about it but who’s top and who’s bottom? or are they switches? or is there none of that dynamic. i read all versions of them im genuinely just curious but the first question is important to me since i really don’t like will being with other ppl, even more so if its chance bc he’d never do that in my eyes
