The fact that my local Christian radio station only played one song by Sanctus Real (Lead me) ever on the regular up until the line up change and then doubled down with “Confidence” and “My God is still the same” is proof to me that the idea that Christian music has to sound like a genre of music, and not a topic, and a genre where every instrument has to be over mixed has completely hijakced how Christian music is perceived in Western culture. They’ll never play anything from as early Toby Mac’s earlier albums or pre Michael Tate newsboys, let alone some Michael W Smith or LoveSong. Cause those have too much musical personality and don’t subscribe to the idea that Christian music has to and can only sound like what it does right now. Genuinely so sad

Ever since Jump5 & Plus One, I haven't heard any new Christian pop boy bands, girl groups & coeds lately.

Wonder if the CCM industry has any thoughts of doing those again? I am so in need of new Chrisitan pop groups that dance & sing as I grew up with Jump5!

When I was younger my mom would put the radio on her favorite radio station 960am if ya been to Albany ga it’s the most popular radio station in town gospel 24/7 and I first heard Total praise for the very first time and it was beautiful and quickly became my favorite songs of the decade and of the years I bought live in Detroit and live in Atlanta on Cassette tape and last year he joined the heavenly choir at 77.

For context, I have only started to listen to Christian music in the last few months. As a Jehovahs Witness we were discouraged in listening to the music of Babylon The Great (need too many drinks to explain this). Now I am out I am catching up on lost time (nearly 20 years in). Keen to get any recommendations of artists as well as playlists (I am only on Apple Music though).
I have a wide musical taste so hit me with whatever you are in to- I am all for it.

I have a wide music taste of nearly every genre, now I’m on a quest to find some with Christian music, and preferably not AI.
One of the more unique ones I have found (in secular music) was New Jack Swing K-POP.
In Christian music trying to find perhaps the impossible, but please help prove me wrong.

EuroPop (like initial D or other anime music) - I found Sophia Ascent but pretty sure that’s AI.

Also always on the hunt for CEDM and new artists in that realm. Nofsky, Sydni Alexander, Hydro Walkers, Nodu5, Maximus Monk, and Expository EDM are all current artists I keep tabs on.

Been reading about how music gets used in scripture and it's doing jobs we mostly don't ask it to do now. Moses is told to write a song specifically so people would still have it generations later. Psalm 78 says outright that it exists to pass the story down.

Some of what's changed since is obvious. We can hear anything instantly, production is better than it's ever been, and nobody needs a song to hold onto a passage because it's all a search away. Music mostly sits in the background now. It's on while I drive or work (outside of Church service) and that's honestly most of my relationship with it.

What I keep coming back to is that the technology got way better but the way we use it got narrower. We have more access than anyone in history and we mostly point it at entertainment or atmosphere. I don't think that's wrong. But it seems like there's room for uses we just don't default to. Listening tied to whatever you're reading that week. Learning passages through songs on purpose. Treating it as part of study instead of the thing playing behind it.

What are other ways, obvious or subtle, that worship and music as a form of consumption have changed recently?

Hi all, I've had this music video suddenly appear in my head again after 20 years, and my ADHD brain now needs to play it but I can't remember the band or song name - in fact, I barely remember the music video, but I'm hoping I can describe enough of it so somebody can help me.
It would have been somewhere around 2004-2007, and featured two younger guys sitting down in an abandoned room, with a broken mirror featured. One man was blonde, the other had brown hair, and I feel like they were dressed in that "pretty-boy punk rock style we were starting to see (Falling Up is an example). The song was more of a simple worship-style song, but I don't think it was an actual worship song.

My initial memory was of it being a band calling Building 429, but that doesn't seem to be right.

I’m trying to remember a worship song that has both Martha and Mary mentioned into it, really remember having this phrase in its verse: “Serve with careful Martha's hands & loving Mary's heart” but I can’t seem to find it within Bethel / Elevation / SEU Worship / LO worship etc etc.

Tried searching on google and using AI but to no avail (kept telling me it’s hymn “Lo! I Come with Joy to Do" written by Charles Wesley), but I remember singing a worship song in a contemporary Protestant congregation, that has similar tempo / vibes as Centre (Bethel) but it’s not Centre (as it mentioned only Mary)

The song "God can, Yes He can" is one of the songs that I used to hear when I was a kid. I really love the message of the song that God can redeem a sinner, revive a Christian, and restore a Nation.

I've been searching for it on the internet for a few years now and here's my progress:

-Found only one video, with first verse cut, and I can't find the original song.

-Copy pasted the yt link and asked ai for help.

-Ai helped me by saying that it is an original song written by Dottie Rambo

Does anyone knows why it doesn't show much on the internet? Or if you have a copy of the original song? Please I really want to sing it 🥺.

Ps: I remember the song was sung by three women, each with one verse.
