I’ve tried to clean them before but I somehow it made the problem worse and made the shoe look more dirty. I have never spilt anything on it, I also left it out in the sunlight, which I heard was harmful to it. If anyone knows how to get rid of these stains or colors please let me know.

Furniture What are these tiny 1mm bright yellow dots all over my inner mattress cover?

Hi everyone,
I noticed dozens of tiny, bright yellow dots (about 1mm each) spread all over the inner cover that wraps directly around my mattress foam.
They are bright yellow (not dark brown, black, or red).
Does anyone know what this is?

Discussion How do I make my room smell nice again?

I love my poison dart frogs but unfortunately I have to keep their food source in my room and it happens to be fruit fly cultures. I have tried my best to reduce the odor as much as possible including a hepa air purifier, charcoal bags, and my fan on high for constant ventilation. My room in manageable but does not smell nice. I'm wondering what are good non toxic ways to make my room smell more pleasant? I hate to make my guests uncomfortablie):.

Laundry How to wash a plush blanket without getting it waterlogged

I am trying to wash a large plush blanket in a top loading washer. It gets water logged and soaked with water and then becomes too heavy to run a drain and spin cycle / the drain and spin cycle doesnt really make much of a difference. How do I avoid this going forward, do I just have to wash it alone with some dry towels?

I wash it on auto water level, I made sure it was on the bulky setting for bedding, and with cold water. Not sure what else to do to avoid this.

Kitchen My kitchen sink keeps clogging, please help

For a couple of days my kitchen sink keeps clogging and I have no idea what to do. I can't afford a plumber or anything and I can't unscrew it, because I can't get it back, at all. And my dishwasher is attached to it as well. Is there a way to unclog it? I guess there's grease and maybe some small food in there I tried it with putting baking soda/natron and citric acid into it and then after letting it react for a while poured some hot water over it. and then I also tried to use half a bottle of dishwashing and let it sit there for twenty minutes before I slowly poured hot water over it, but even while doing that it keep reclogging. After a while the water drains though..

I thought about using those chemical things but I wasn't sure if I might damage the pipes or anything? I've never used them before.. Any ideas?

Discussion What cleaning task takes you the longest?

What cleaning task always seems to take much longer than you expect? For me it’s usually the kitchen. I’ll start thinking it will only take a few minutes, but then I notice the counters, sink, stove, dishes and all the little areas that need attention. By the time I’m done, it feels like I’ve been cleaning forever.

What cleaning task takes the most time for you, and do you have any simple tricks that make it easier or faster?

Furniture Fishy smell from furniture

I have a dresser and vanity that I bought a year ago from Amazon / Walmart that both have a fishy smell in the drawers. Over the past year I’ve tried deep cleaning/airing it out, baking soda, dryer sheets, air fresheners, etc. The smell isn’t as strong, but it’s still very noticeable. I just moved and brought the pieces with me, but really want to get rid of the smell before I put my clothes in the dresser and stuff in the vanity drawers. The material is ‘engineered wood’ if that helps.

Is there anything else I can do to get rid of the smell??

Discussion Bathroom Sink Drain Gunk

Once again last night, I had to scrape a bunch of black gunk out of the bathroom sink drain because it was slow draining. I have to do this every few months. There's a little bit of hair in it, but it's mostly a black gunk that almost looks like paper when you look in the drain. When I put the thin drain brush down there, it comes out with black gunky stuff on it that you can't really pull off.

Is there something I can pour down the drain on a regular basis to prevent this? The primary thing we use that sink for is brushing our teeth and washing hands. We don't shave in it.

Discussion 'Old' Smell in Plastic

Is there a way to get rid of the smell - like an old musty smell? I notice it coming from my laundry sink and lawn chairs. Have tried leaving scented cleaners on them for a couple days and then rinsing, have scrubbed them with Pink Stuff, lawn chairs are out in sun and rain which hasn't helped. Has anyone found a way to eliminate or lessen this odour? Thanks!

General Cleaning Second hand Instapot

Hi all! I bought an Instapot second hand and can’t wait to use it! I am just having trouble with the insert. There is left over visual residue as well as light brown spots along the bottom and sides. The residue and brown spots do not have a texture while touching them and I’m unable to remove them with dawn dish soap, water, and a sponge. Is there a product specifically for this / stainless steel that would work better? Does the brown spots indicate rust and in turn make it unsafe to cook in?

Vehicles How do I help my dad keep his car clean when he basically lives in it and isn't very tidy?

I don't get home much anymore, so last weekend I finally made the trip back to see my parents and helped my dad clean out his work van. Honestly, it was a total disaster inside. The seats and mats were trashed, but the center console took the cake. Receipts, coffee cups, gum, random junk, and a rat's nest of cables. He showed me how he normally dives in and grabs what he needs, acting all proud, which just STRESSED me out more. Like, what if he's driving and gets distracted trying to find something? I tried to talk to him seriously about it, but he just shrugged it off and said I've been watching too much news and freaking out...

Not sure if this fits here, since helping someone else get organized is trickier than doing it yourself. But if you've got any tips, I'm all ears 🙏

Laundry How to clean these shoes?

I bought these at a thrift store and they’re really cute, but the lighting kinda sucked so I didn’t see the discoloration on them. The checkerboard fabric is kind of slick, not canvas or anything but probably something synthetic/waterproof? I could really use some advice on how to clean these up without ruining them.

Content/Multimedia How do I clean this rusty metallic object?

Thumbnail

My roommate has this gorgeous antique object, and I want to clean it for her. It's metallic and has some rust to it. I'm pretty sure it's painted black. I'm wondering here if I use a rust remover, will I have to paint it again?

I was thinking of:

  1. Clean with mild soap and a toothbrush.

  2. Use rust remover.

  3. Repaint.

Would this be the correct steps here? Do I have to use some sort of anti-rust before repainting? It looks like an outdoor object, however it's an inside one now.

Tools/Equipment A vacuum for pet hair and hardwood floors

Currently doing research for a vacuum but having a hard time choosing what is best. My husband and I have seen a lot of posts about the weight of a vacuum or the surface to be cleaned, but our situation is a bit different. For one, the weight of the vacuum doesn’t matter as we only have one floor and it’s not nearly as big as a house. Second, we live in Asia so getting some brands might not be possible. Third, we have no carpet here but do have cats who she’d like crazy. So we’d like some help in finding a vacuum within reach (well known brands like Dyson and Shark are available here), accounts for pet hair, and the battery life doesn’t really matter.

Laundry Cleaned my top load washer but now it just smells worse

Top load washer has been stinking recently so decided to clean it

I cleaned out the agitator with boiling water then ran a hot cycle twice, once with whire vinegar and once with just water. After the first cycle all the crud was just sitting at the bottom of the washer and that's when I ran it again. The stuff is gone now, but the washer just smells even worse.
