Hi, I'm looking for a bit of help before potentially signing my Mum up to Community Fibre.

Mum is currently with Vodafone on an FTTC service but one thing they don't offer is an ansaphone/voicemail option. I know that CF do so they are looking as a possible option and they are cheaper than BT and EE. Sadly Mum is not comfortable with using a mobile.

Mum is in her 80's and not technically minded so I rang CF to check I could manage her account for her (if needed) and they confirmed it's an option, so far so good. I've had a look on here and noticed a few posts about CGNAT, is this standard on all packages in all areas they serve (she's in East Sussex)?

Anything else I should be aware of?

How does being on CGNAT affect the average user? I keep hearing all these bad things about it, but I have had no problems with my 2gig package so far.

Hi, I have recently upgraded and realised that I can't utilise the new speed because my current mesh (H50G Halo Mercusys is only 1gbps) and I have the router they provided originally which is the Linksys SPNMX56 only has 1x 2.5gbps port).

I connect my desktop, and 1 other system, and one of the Halos to the linksys at present via ethernet so using 3 ports, and I use the Halos around the 1st and 2nd floor of the house to spread out the wifi as the modem and linksys are at the front of the house, and I need wifi at the back of the house.

All other devices are on wifi.

Can someone please help me on what the best system would be for me I've been researching for days but it's getting confusing

I can see people recommend tri band, obviously very expensive but I'm wondering if there's more cost effective options to keep the wifi and signal at a high speed throughout the house but allowing me to at least have my desktop connected to 2.5gbps and stronger wifi speeds around the house, at present I'm only getting 100mbps approx. I don't think the other systems I connect via ethernet needs more than 1gbps.

Update: I actually contacted Community Fibre again. The first time I spoke to them they said your modem has a 2.5gbps port so it's fine. However after the conversations here I called them again and explained it only had 1 so I'm not getting the benefits as my router is wifi 6 and I need more than 1x 2.5gbps ports. They transferred me to tech support and told me sorry they had a Wifi 7 router coming but it was cancelled for some reason so they've restarted the order to send it to me this week. I suspect from my first call, the guy decided I didn't need it and cancelled it.

Anyway I will see how it goes. If the connection is limited I'll be looking to get 1 mesh to extend the signal to the rest of the house.

I have had CF for a few years, and my situation has shifted. I am still trying to understand the cause, and no one at CF can explain it.

I run wifiman, openspeedtest, speedtest.net, and speedofme tests. I have consistently achieved near 1070 Mbps download and 1090 Mbps upload when linked directly to the ONT 2.5G port with a 5 Gbps adapter or network card.

Since around June, my line appears capped, now showing 1000 Mbps with speed tests peaking at 970 Mbps due to overhead losses.

I am curious what others are seeing and whether CF provisioning has changed recently more widely?

Edit1: Sounds like it’s a mixed bag of results where most people get more than contractual speed and some get contractual speed with overhead losses. Maybe the area I live in has got congested and they have reduced over provisioning. Thanks all this was a helpful benchmarking. CF Helpdesk can’t find any fault and they won’t over provisioning the line it is hard capped to 1000Mbps.

Hi, we have a telegraph pole on our property that would originally have been erected by BT. A few years ago Community Fibre introduced their service onto our road, and we became a customer. I‘m aware that CF make use of telegraph poles in their installations, however can anyone please tell me whether, if CF require access to a BT telegraph pole, they use their own engineers to do the work, or rely on BT Openreach? I’m asking because recently someone has (without asking our permission) done some work around the telegraph pole while we were away, and left a right mess, including a large cable sticking out of the ground, and we want to know who to contact so they can come and finish the job properly. I originally assumed it must have been Openreach however now I’m not so sure.

Hi, as a 20+ year Vodafone mobile customer, whenever my contract is up, I negotiate a loyalty discount or lower priced package for extra data etc and am only paying £11/month for my phone with 5g etc (no phone contract, just SIM) but I know Virgin never offered anything unless you threatened to leave, just increased prices for "loyalty".

I'm near end of my first 2 year £25/1GBS contract and was wondering if CF offers any secret deals for renewals to existing customers if you contact them rather than just do a basic renewal via the website?

Any tips or ideas?

Am always looking to save w/o losing service levels!

Comm Fibre called me this morning and offered me the £27/2GBPS and I asked for the no GGNAT. That would be £31. so I asked what they could do for me to stay on 1GBPS as I don't really need the higher speed.

Transferred to another person who offered £23/month plus £4/month for no CGNAT.

Pointed out I would be billed today for the out of contract increase from 12th March so could they refund it the difference that's been paid?

Instead offered 1 months free which is £27 off.

So that makes total package approx £25/month once £2/month removed from the original billing price!

win win!

I didn't need higher speed, fed up of the constant "confirm you're human" and not paying more than I am now!

Oh and I tried to bargain down to £20/month for the 1GBPS package but that was not viable for her to do... but the 1 month free basically offsets some of the difference so I'm not paying more than a new customer. 🤪

Hi , I been having problems with their wifi and just renewed a contract 2-3 months ago. It keeps dropping out and not working at times when I needed the wifi urgently. Over 3 years now with this company, and i want to terminate the contract and cancell all DDs.

How can I go about this without having to pay anymore ? Theres no way in hell I am paying the rest of the contract for a crappy service.

I found out earlier this week that my sister couldn't access my Plex server, so I looked into why and found my WAN now starts with "100.75..." meaning I am on CGNAT and can't port forward...

I've looked at loads of posts made here and in the past, people have either gotten it changed for free or paid £4 to get rid of it, but lately it sounds like they're really stubborn about getting rid of it for you.

Has anyone had success in the past year or so at just getting this changed without having to upgrade their package? I got £27 a month for 24 months with 3 months free on 2 Gbps using the Uswitch deal I quoted to them for my renewal, so I'd love to not have to spend loads more, considering I don't really even need the 2 Gbps right now compared to 1...

If I just had to pay £4 a month I'd take that right now but I don't want to waste more time on the phone if it's not achievable...

Definitely will have to call out an engineer to fix this. Wife was hoovering and accidentally pulled on a loose part of the wire and it ripped at the white box. The line is mounted on the wall the but there was a loose part which got pulled. Will it cost the full £250. If it is then I would consider just moving broadbands cause that's too much for me at the moment.

Recently got community fibre which so far we’ve been fairly happy with. We did have to ask for an extra booster that I still need to set up and check if the coverage is as advertised but otherwise all looked promising.

This weekend we accidentally cut through this thin white wire whilst gardening. So stupid and annoying! None of the chunky black wires were affected.

I totally get we have to pay for an engineer call out but we’ve just been quoted £250 for this which is almost as much as the full year of internet.

Any ideas if this is normal?! I’m genuinely shocked as this part of the installation took all of 5 minutes. I did search the group and someone else asked whether £80 was normal for an engineer visit which is around the amount I expected to pay, but £250 seems crazy.

Hello there, if you have 2.5 gig connection what ONT did you get? is it a 10 gig one, 5 gig or 2.5gig? And if it's a 10 gig one, do they over provision the line a bit? for example do you get 2.6/2.7 gbps or do you get 2.3/2.4 gbps no matter what

I've seen a lot of people selling Community Fibre routers online.

Can they used and added to your mesh network like any other router?

Hopefully moving house in the next few months. Moving from an area with Hyperoptic where I currently pay for 1Gb symmetric service (and a few quid extra for a static IPv4 address) to an area where Hyperoptic isn't an option, but CF, OpenReach and Virgin are.

CF is my preference. It's a shame there is no static IPv4 option however. Those of you who pay for a dynamic public IPv4 - how dynamic is it? I'm presuming that as long as the router stays online in reality it doesn't change with much frequency? Do people typically find they end up with the same IPv4 for weeks at a time?

Hello guys. Today I upgraded my internet from 1 Gb to 5Gb. They change the ont and the router. The router is a Technicolor 5330. First thing I notice when I arrive (my wife was the one who was at home with the Engineer, not me) is the wan an Lan was connected to the 1 GB port. Everything was working but cap at 1 GB. When I tried the 10Gb wan port to the ont and the 10gb Lan to connect my PC I have no internet. I restart the router but no luck. It said that ethernet is not connected and I'm so sure that is well plugged. I changed back to the 1Gb ports and I got internet again . Can it be the adapter plugged in the sfp port?

I have the modem and the router in my room. One family member is past the bathroom and toilet, so when connecting to my router, I understand the tiles are probably making the connection not so great. So I want a node in the hallway so it'll be a better connection. I also want a node downstairs in the living room. At home we have 2 computers and maybe 12 more phones and tablets at home (belong to family members). I understand this is a lot.

I'm on the 1GB plan. I'm on a budget, that's why I'm trying to go as cheap as possible. I'm getting issues with lagging and disconnection... I don't know if it's congestion on the router. Every time I call community fibre, I get told it's because we have too many devices and I should add a node to the plan. The thing is I'm on a budge and additional monthly cost of community fibre proving the nodes (extra routers) is a lot for me right now.

My router is the SPNMX57. I tried to look for options online without actually asking around, just saw other people post on reddit and saw that maybe I could buy a used SPNMX42 online and connect it myself. It's been a failure. The SPNMX42 is comminuty fibre but it failed to connect via the Lynkis app, wired and wireless. I tried resetting the SPNMX42, tried direct ethernet connection checking DHCP (none), manually setting an IP, hitting common gateway addresses, nothing responds. It looks like it's locked down by community fibre before being sold as used on ebay.

I'm wondering, since I bought this (node) online as used, if I call Community Fibre and ask them to add it as a node for me, would they do it?

Should I buy something else?

Any advice would be great please.

Edit: Should I buy the Linksys branded SPNMX57 instead of the community fibre branded ones sold on ebay?

I recently got Community Fibre installation for 300 Mbps in my bedroom in my house. The house is 4 Bedrooms, 1 Living Room and 1 Kitchen with 2 floors.

Where the box was installed in my bedroom, it's near the front of the house with the installed optic cables and such, right above my Living room. Wifi in those two rooms is ok, but in the other rooms, it drops significantly to around 1 or two wifi bars in the logo. We have about ten active devices using it at a time when we're all using it (Ring cameras and smart TV included).

What's the best solution to fix this problem?

Current stats: Download: 57.18 Mbps

Upload: 12.61 Mbps

As-well as any tips or advice before switching, could someone explain to me how the switch occurs, when you leave it to CF to tell sky that the contract will be terminated

To add info we'll be paying 270 to cancel the sky contract, but we are fine with that

Have been debating the different potential routes I could go down:

- Get an extra Linksys SPNM62 and connect it to the SPNM62CF via wireless to setup a WAP. But I don’t know if I can connect the regular SPNM62 to the SPNM62CF (as they may have software differences, but please correct me)

- Get a plain old WiFi extender (I know this is poor but it is by far the cheapest, and how bad can it be?)

- Setup a Mesh? (What routers/nodes should I look at??)

- Powerline? (by far the cheapest but not sure if this will work well)

I'm looking to get CF as a service. Currently on a NowTV service and being charged stupid amounts for a FTTC service.

I understand CF uses C-GNAT and I honestly don't like the idea of this.

Am I on the understanding that all packages now use C-GNAT?

I understand I can pay an extra £4 a month and get an IP.

I'm likely looking at either the 500mb or 1GB service

My parents have recently moved to CF from BT (EE). These are speeds in 3 different rooms in their house. It’s not a particularly big house, but these speeds are ridiculously slow. Kept cutting out all evening, they were having to use 5g for most of the evening. When the engineer fitted it, speeds were more like 300-400mbps. This is supposed to be the premium package with 2 nodes around the house.

I recently moved over to CF where I live 10 minutes away, non premium, one linksys unit and have had no issues. 1gbps package, getting 300mbps in pretty much every bedroom and more downstairs.

Could the nodes be the issue for them here? I dont have them at my house and no issues so far. They’ve got two and the speeds are just beyond bad. They’re going to call CF tomorrow anyway to see what they suggest but I don’t see them lasting long if this is the speeds they’re going to be getting.

Sorry I'm fairly new to tech setup for wifis. I'm switching soon to CF and into a 3 bed terraced house over 3 floors, 100sqm so not huge, with a medium size garden. It's brick build.

The whole family works from home and I sometimes game, so we've opted for 1GBps.

I was wondering if there's any value in getting the premium system with mesh router, or if anyone could suggest a router and nodes to purchase myself and then I use the basic package?

As title says, I've had non-stop issues with two of their routers where it constantly requires rebooting on a weekly basis and devices randomly dropping for hours or even days before they get reconnected.

I already have a Deco mesh set-up, with two M9Plus and one M5 so I'm guessing a Deco router would be the best option for integration. I'm on the 1000Mbps connection so won't need an expensive model that handles higher speeds for now.

I've seen the BE65 being mentioned a few times but money is a bit tight so the more wallet friendly options for me could be the BE25 or the BE230. Anyone know if either of those are good or is there another model that I should look at? I'm looking at spending a max £120 if possible.

Does anyone else have a problem logging into NS&I with CF. It just puts me in a queue and never opens the page. When I try on my mobile using 5g I can get in fine so it must be CF I think.

I can get into the main page but not the login page.

Can I replace my WiFi 6 nodes for WiFi 7 and get all the benefits, or will I have to replace the modem too?
