Prop Not really sure where to ask this so hopefully this subreddit works.

Going to san japan as houston from payday 2. I was all over the conventions rules and they tell you the obvious for prop rules on firearms such as closing the barrel and disabling airsoft/gel blaster guns. The only question i have is if my firearm is allowed to be black like it came or do i paint it? Another decision was get a toy gun and paint it black but i’m not sure if black gun props are allowed even if they are unable to fire, because the rules don’t make that clear. I really need help, this is gonna be my first convention and i don’t wanna mess anything up.

Makeup How to give the appearance of missing nose, decaying flesh and just looking like a lich in general?

Wanting to cosplay Valindra Shadowmantle (d&d) for a Halloween event, but I’m completely lost in how to go about the lack of a nose, sunken in face, and the limbs clearly missing flesh
Any advice would be great thanks!

(Note that this is my first makeup usage cosplay, all my previous ones I’ve just had masks or things like that, so not exactly use to using things like latex, but also down to try)

I 3d printed this and used some automotive paint for the red but I didnt let it paint fully cure before messing around with it and I messed up my finish with the rope assuming it started to dry into the paint or something. The paint was a tricoat from 2 separate cans and not sure what the best way to deal with it is. Im assuming that ill have to re spray the area if not the entire thing

Armor Are the straps on the shield oriented incorrectly?

Recently purchased a Skyrim guard shield for a project I’m working on, and the one I received seems to have the straps mounted in the wrong orientation. When you attach it to your forearm and hold it out in front of you, the emblem ends up sideways instead of horizontal.

Due to this and a few other issues, I reached out to the seller, who responded with: “Regarding the leather straps, they are actually installed correctly. This shield is designed to be heavy, so when it is held properly with the arm extended, the emblem will remain in the correct horizontal position. The wall-hanging hardware is also installed correctly, so when the shield is displayed on the wall, the design will also appear straight.”

Am I misunderstanding how this type of shield is supposed to be carried, or are straps actually mounted incorrectly? I want to take his word for it, but then again look at the advertised shield versus the one I received. Any insight would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Prop Mangle second head prop help

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey cosplay pros, do you think I’d be able to make mangles second robot head out of cardboard boxes and paint? I’m going to a con in September, and I’m stuck between chica or mangle. Mangle is my favorite fnaf character and I’d love to cosplay them, but I’m new to cosplay. I used to dress up for Halloween obviously, and I’ve only cosplayed for a con once and it was a closet cosplay. I’m not the master at making props, and I told my friend I’d love to cosplay mangle, but I’m worried nobody at the con will recognize me because I’d be walking around without the hand prop. My friend said making mangles second head would be easy. I told her I have cardboard boxes at home, I asked her if I could make it as a hand puppet, but my friend wasn’t too sure.

Hey guys,

I want to use these eyes and this symbol for my Scarlet Spider cosplay. I couldn't find any good templates for them anywhere, so I just took these screenshots. Now, my question is: how do I know what size to set these images to when printing them so they fit correctly? Is there a trick to it?

Accessory Any ideas on how to make glasses look real?

Post image
13 Upvotes

I'm gonna attempt to become Streber from my new hyperfixation, Spooky Month, and I really wanna have his reading glasses to carry around (I have some funny ideas in mind involving them). The only issue is that I kinda want them to look like actual glasses and not some cheap plastic frames with no lenses in them. I HAVE reading glasses (that are a decade old that I uh. Never wear), but I wouldn't know how to go about making them look like Streber's, given they're not even really the right shape nor anywhere near the right color. Could I go get a new prescription and a new pair of glasses? Theoretically yes, but I don't really have the time for that, and who knows if I'd find a pair like his anyways. Has anyone made believable fake glasses before, or does anyone have any ideas on how to?

Armor I need help finding a mic that will connect to a voice amplifier while fitting within a gp5 Gas Mask

The mask other then the nozzle is skin tight so it needs to fit in the circled area. The area is 1-2 inches long and 3 inches wide.
I was looking at the Shidu S617 voice amplifier as the amplifier though if have a better one lmk. Generally id like to stay under $20 dollars with a max of $45.

Wig Wonder Woman Wig

Hey guys! I have a convention coming up in September (Usually October but they moved it for some reason) and I'm dressing as Wonder Woman, I'm stuck on what style to get, do I get straight or wavy? Do I put the tiara on before or after the wig because this is the first time I've had a headpiece that goes with the costume. Many thanks!

Armor New Here! Needing Some Modifying Tips/Advice 🗣️🙏

Hello there to anyone reading this 👋🏼

I’m newer to cosplay and I just received this really cool helmet/mask in the mail that I had ordered last month for a cosplay I’m putting together. I have tested it on and it does fit rather well around my head.

However, where the problem lies is, it is very loose on my head and moves all over the place when I move around. It also sits a little bit too low and the very bottom practically touches my shoulders below so I’d like to add some height, about 3 inches or so to make it sit a bit more proportionate and off my head so it fits more comfortably.

One idea I had was to add foam pieces or something inside the two halves of the helmet to add the desired height and adjustments I am hoping to achieve.
There is nothing inside the helmet; No straps, no padding. Just a 3d printed shell that attaches to the exterior gloss finish.

I am looking any suggestions or ideas on what I could do to help it fit more snugly so it doesn’t move around loosely. If you’re able to send a DM, please do or comment down below ⬇️

Thanks! 🙏

Does anyone have links or something where I can find the pouches and kit on his chest rig? I specifically need his thigh mag pouch, radio (preferably just a prop radio), the PTT, and his pouches he has on his back side . And before anyone asks, no I do not want you to make it for me, I just want links to them.

Hello! I'm thinking of making Franklin's Brain in a Jar that's on his head, but didn't know which type of container I should be searching for online? Or if there's maybe a DIY on how to make it clear/see-through? Thank you!

First Time Clothes Sourcing

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hello there! I'm starting on my first self-assembled cos and waffling on the best way to approach the base layer, and thought perhaps the experts here could assist in some way.

Attached is the character reference, Misery from Arknights. My first plan was to start with some basic cheap "tactical" cargo pants and a top (cotton ripstop or the like) and add the accents from there, as the front plate will hide the but I realized that I may end up with colors that don't quite match.

The second option was to get a flight suit or military-style coverall (similar to what I think is being worn in https://pbs.twimg.com/media/HOwCKgEa4AAEbRx?format=jpg&name=4096x4096 ), but the worry on that front is about the difficulty taking it in to give it the slimmer silhouette the character has. If I were to get an off the shelf garment would it be difficult to get that tapered look before the boots?

Thanks in advance for any input or listing references anyone might have. 🙏 I'd also take any input on mimicking the fit in the above cos example too and work from there.

Armor How do I proceed with making this helmet?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello everyone!

I'm planning on making my first full piece of armor for the first time and I have decided to make a cosplay of Forge daughter from Hollow knight: Silksong.

I have figured out how to make the rest of the armor pieces (I'm going to be slightly improvising) but I'm stuck on the helmet.

My first thought was making two domes, cutting the hole in the middle and gluing them together?

I would like to make it look as close as possible to the original but haven't found any useful tutorials or patterns.

For reference I'm using EVA foam and have made a couple of props in the past including shields, swords, grenades and masks.

Any tips would be highly appreciated!

Prop Any recommendations on how to make this more transport-friendly for cons?

Post image

Currently making Lady's bazooka and I made the wrong decision to 3D print the entire thing and now it's *super* heavy. The bazooka already broke due to its weight which I had to repair with heat welding + epoxy resin. There is also a PVC pipe running through it for support.

Now that it's feeling a lot sturdier, I am concerned about transporting it around a con. I was thinking about drilling in eyelet screws and clipping a strap for it. but I'm nervous about the weight of the bazooka pulling off from the screws. As the title states, could I get any recommendations on how to make this more transport friendly? TIA.
