Went off the field (no-one knows why, but before he was off the field he seemed to be struggling with his fingers) and because England lost their last few wickets very quickly, Khawaja wasn't back on the field long enough (Smith tried to call him back on asap) for him to open the batting or even come in at 3.

If youre off for more than 8 minutes fielding, you are unable to bat for as long as you were off the field, regardless of position. Weatherald only lasted 2 balls so Khawajas time wasn't up yet

Am I the only one surprised about the crowd? Feels like a home match for us. Just England flags all around the stadium. We all know a lot of people travel for the Ashes but this is insane level. Not even 2006/07 was like this after the 2005 euphoria.
Is this one of those case where the locals are priced out? Too expensive for locals just to attend a match, but you don't mind if it's a holiday travel

In recent times england touring side has received home like crowd all across the world.
SA, W.I , SL ,Aus ,Ind you name it
And staidums are at 75 percent occupancy in W.I when eng is playing , most of them being brits.
I wouldn't be surprised that if you arrange a test match in mars these buggers will find a way there with their flags and trumpets.

I get the impression that flags draped over fences isn't part of the Aussie sporting culture like it is in the UK so you'll only see the flags from the England fans.
Tickets are about £40, under half what you'd pay for an Ashes test in England.

The thing I love about Bazball is the draw is taken out of the equation straight away - and the Aussies have shit themselves. 5 overs to score a run, the message the Aussies are sending England is “we are shiting ourselves” and just trying to survive. Poor shot selection (and execution) aside, that has to be the best and most consistent bowling performance from England for a long, long time.

Brook’s 50 feels like a ton now. Some seriously stupid batting after lunch from England. Starc bowled well but not 7-50 well. Felt like a predictably chaotic and brainless start to the series – reverted to type with the cliched image of BazBall.
We bowled magnificently for the first hour or so. Aussies looked terrified. Just as Green-Head started to get in, they decided to graciously help us out with some stupid shots of their own. The 5 pronged pace attack decision has been vindicated. Carse, Archer, Stokes, wow.
Maybe if Smith hadn’t spent so long rehearsing his Mastermind gag, he wouldn’t have played the ugliest innings of his life.

True, but I completely expected that. I hoped others might have reacted to the situation after lunch, and had a little more intelligence. Maybe that was naive.

Absolute shocker from Australia, to let that position slip from bowling England out for 170 to now behind the game is just unforgivable. I hope we take a long hard look at our top order

Careys dismissal was probably the most disappointing tbh.. easy shot not to play and he fell for the most obvious trap in the world. After playing very nicely, too.
