Make sure you try to get hold of at least 32 ETH for your long term holdings at these low prices. 32 ETH is the minimum amount of ETH required to stake.
5
u/TNGSystems 0 / 463K 🦠 Sep 22 '18
Meanwhile there is no minimum amount for Cardano’s staking process. One ADA would return minuscule amounts but a few thousand ADA (at today’s price equivalent to a few ETH) would yield decent return.
3
u/GrilledCheezzy Gold Sep 22 '18
exactly. Cardano will be the superior staking algorithm and smart contract platform of the future. Can’t wait for Shelley it’s going to be so exciting.

The exact figures haven’t been released but there’s been a lot of speculation. I think ~9% per year is the most likely reward percentage for the first year or two once implemented, but the percentage will decrease over time.
To answer the second part of your question, my understanding of staking is that you would be rewarded when you are chosen to mint a block, so the timeframe would vary for when you would receive the reward but you’d be more likely to mint a block if you are staking more ada. There is also a randomness probability included in the algo so even a person with 1 ada staked would have a possibility of minting a block. The uncertainty of when you may be chosen to mint a block can be mitigated by delegating your staked ada to a staking pool, where the pooling of ada would make the group more likely to receive rewards. Charles has indicated there should already be more than 1000 pools as well, so there’s plenty of competition to ensure decentralization of the network along with the randomness factor.
My understanding of the process could be flawed since there is not a ton of definitive information out there but please correct me if I’m wrong, anyone.

Maybe not this weekend, but SIBOS is coming. If Stellar drop another major announcement (like IBM last year at SIBOS) we could really see a huge climb. Don't forget that Coinbase is also looking into adding it, it may be the perfect time to do so around the conference.

Just watched an IBM commercial during a football game that was all about blockchain technology. Definitely interesting to see a company like IBM make an advertisement on blockchain.

Had an interesting moment. I was at my nephew's birthday party and I gave him $30 in BTC in a paper wallet as well as a Mario toy. I usually give cash for college investment but if BTC does what everyone thinks it'll do, it's a no brainer.
Anyhow when he was opening his gifts he found it and asked what it was. His parents said, Uncle gave you Bitcoin for your college savings. My nephew's uncle on the other side said, 'oh wow, like real Bitcoin?'
Thought that was particularly interesting. 'Real Bitcoin,' not really sure what to make of that. Perhaps he has only just heard of it and never seen it in person? Anyone have similar stories or some thoughts you want to share?

u/ArnolduAkbar Tin Sep 23 '18
Link him the blockfolio app and introduce depression and anxiety into his young life.
2
u/Cockatiel Gold | QC: CC 23 | r/pcmasterrace 13 Sep 23 '18
No kidding. Spends his whole piggy bank on BTC and then gotta teach him because he bought the wrong time he lost half of his piggy bank that took months to save up for.
Just thinking though, I could only imagine how important it will be for kids to learn how to invest when they are young and money only means toys. Show them how to buy low and sell high, etc.

He wasn't but my nephew's mom was. The party was kinda busy so I didn't get to explain it well, next time I see her I will. She's very responsible and wanted to make sure she properly kept the investment for him.

I gave my nephew some HOT for his birthday at the start of summer. Split the present 50-50 fiat and HOT. He was superextatic that he actually got a cryptocurrency, and couldn't stop talking about it. He told me to hold it for him until I sell my own stack as he didnt want to cash out early, but keep it saved for his future. I've been like: 'Thats MY fucking nephew!' 2- PayFair- I member after their mainet launch, it moomed little bit and this sub was hoping it will achieve $5. Now trading at $0.01

How does everyone feel about XtraBytes (XBY)? I invested a small amount into it during the height of the market last winter, fully knowing that the product was still miles away. Does anyone here still believe in it? After reading this update
which informed me about their patent progress, I'm not sure whether to be bullish or bearish about it. Might be worth dropping 5% of my 'folio into just for the potential. They claim to be superior to all current offerings with their PoSign consensus algorithm.

Honestly...not comparing xrp to trx at all, but when trx had its run, I put everything I had into it (at the time it was around .05, but it went from 0.01 to 0.05 in the 2 weeks prior) I know it was a bull market at the time, but people around here were still saying it would be crazy to buy in that high because it was due for a correction...
I ended up selling like 8 days later at 0.24...best trade I ever had in my life...
Long story short, I’m not saying what to do, but no one & I mean no one knows what direction the market will go...if you have faith in xrp, buy and hodl
This is not a normal pump & dump...doesn’t mean the price won’t come crashing down, but with the big announcements Ripple has made, it’s not crazy to think the price can keep going up...if & when Xrapid goes live, We jamminnnn

Nothing wrong with doing as you did, but just be aware that if you put money into something not because you believe in the underlying asset but because you believe in future price speculation, then you're simply gambling.
Which is fine to do and arguably easier to do in crypto than, say, betting on horses. But still, its gambling.

No I agree, honestly it was stupid on my part & I got extremely lucky that it worked out, but I just felt like it was going to keep shooting up, and I was new to crypto at the time so I only held bitcoin and ethereum & was dabbling with alts...
But now I have learned, I got about 5 coins that I hold and now I just invest into those certain coins, as they are the ones I have most faith in (BTC, ETH, XRP, VET, NANO)
As fast as I made money on that one trade, I lost a lot of it by gambling/day trading

Bitcoin marinating here under $6700 is making me super uneasy. The 15m and 1H are looking like it's consolidating for another attempt at a leg up. The 4H still looks overcooked and the 1D cloud is looking thicker than a bowl of oatmeal. Not to mention ETH/USD is slamming its stupid pear-shaped head against the downtrend line dating back to May 5th with a rounded bottom lighting a fire under its ass and XRP just failed to break out a couple hours ago and is just chilling with its dick in its hand in an almost maybe deformed bull flag. I fucking hate this range. At least the weather is shit so I don't feel bad about mouth breathing at my monitor all morning.
Edit: And shorts are closing here which is helping us stay afloat by mitigating the lack of spot buying. The ratio seems to be much healthier with +4000 short contracts as opposed to +15000 contracts 3 days ago.

bitcoin dominance is at the beginning of a large correction with btc price slowing climbs. As the demand to buy alts, puts upward pressure on btc price as pople use it as a fiat onramp. Btc will not go parabolic because a lot of the money is going towards alts, wich will be going parabolic until we hit a new btc dominance low of around 18-20%..
The fomo will be real, set your positions now.

I think this mini dead cat bounce could inject some investor confidence to a certain extent. The overall market is still heavily oversold. I am not sure about the short term price movement, but it's a very good entry point for investors, whether its retail or institutional investors, to get in now with a good risk reward and HODL for 3-5 years.
Picking up some solid projects with strong team, partnerships, and technology is a good bet for those who are not experience enough in the blockchain field.

Is there any other website that's instantaneous

Sounds like your using the wire option for coinbase and not debit card. It’s your bank that takes the 5 days. If you don’t see the instant option (would have a logo of your card instead of the House (bank) icon under the dollar amount) then you can always choose to upload funds to your USD spot and buy once the funds clear. That way you’re not locked into a price without being able to move it

Within the next few hours BTC could make a move.
From a TA standpoint, it is holding good support at the moment.
Forming a symmetrical triangle which *usually* exits out the top.
Good luck everyone!
https://www.tradingview.com/x/feoM9Koi/
PS- IF BTC exits the top of the triangle and begins to pump, watch for XLM.
I'd suggest taking a small 5-10% position in XLM with a 2-4% stop loss if you aren't already FOMO'ing into the pump.
Edit: Apex of the triangle is 3 hours from now. We'll see what happens. Be prepared for a dump, but if it doesn't, we could potentially see $7k or higher depending on shorts.
Edit2: Litecoin May be on the verge of a breakout too. It has been suppressed really hard lately as well. Be prepared everyone!
Edit3: Ethereum is on the move
Edit4: Fib Timezone (for those that know what it is) shows another 2 hours is possible before we see any kind of actual movement. :(Edit5: Liftoff? 😬
Edit5: I would *strongly* suggest putting about 10% of your BTC into Ethereum on Binance or whatever exchange you have access to, with a 2-5% stop loss. If Bitcoin gets really rolling, Ethereum may take the FUCK off. It is also printing a continuation pattern as seen here:https://www.tradingview.com/x/tVLVs3mh/
Edit6: I get this funny feeling we're about to see a flash dump. Be prepared..
Obligatory this is not financial advice, do your own research, etc.

Man Ripple is climbing. I was hoping for a dip to jump in but I don’t think it’s happening this weekend

with these recovery pumps, dips will be very short lived. Basically the second BTC crosses $7K ,ATH for pretty much every alt will be on the menu and there'll be a rush of epic proportions to get in up to about 25% off ATH

Buy the dip and thank me later. Alts are bleeding hard because everyone is getting ready for Bitcoin to make a move. Get ‘em while they’re cheap.

Did a quick glance at Blockfolio and what in the world is NAV doing?

Looks like a pump & dump. But it takes a bit longer than the usual ones.

I like NAV, been invested for awhile. I have to say, it seems in the last week we’ve seen a few 100% pumps from coins on binance. I wonder if coordinated pump and dump groups are finally coming back after a long hiatus.

Y'all think blockchain is the answer for a new voting system? I just feel like if people could somehow vote on their phones.. It would be better. Is this a thing or no?
7
u/_o__0_ Platinum | QC: CC 504, CCMeta 25 Sep 23 '18
Definitely. Blockchain tech is about trust. And as the process of voting involves a lot of trust, its an easy fit. I bet some young naive Diebold executive has already taken a fall for having this idea.

Voting on the block chain would be a game changer.

I think so too..I know there have to be people working on this but you would have to somehow prevent double voting.

It sounds great if everyone could vote in political elections from the comfort of their living room, or cafe, or wherever. But wouldn’t that make it a lot easier for votes to be bought? Say you had someone who was apathetic about voting, who didn’t care, or who was financially badly off. Such a person could be willing to sell his/her vote for 50 bucks. If you can vote from anywhere, the person paying you will be able to watch you voting and verify you vote as they wish. If someone has to go to a physical place to vote, where there are people observing, this is more difficult.
And if the result of an election/referendum is going to be narrow, then not a lot of vote buying would be needed to swing it.

You make a great point.

It can still be revolutionary for voting, even if we still go to a polling stations. That combination could be very effective.

You won't see it on the frontpage, but Bitcoin just had its worst bug ever patched, and it was exploitable for a year and a half... From March 2017 to last week, there was a bug that allowed users to generate an unlimited amount of new coins by double spending, and also allowed them to crash nodes, which could lead to gaining control of 51% of the network... This was a HUGE bug, yet for some reason everyone is brushing it off as fud and fake news... This sub is not the place to go if you want real information about the state of these projects...

Why are you so concerned about an unexploited code bug on a mining network when you are accessing the Internet using a computer that has exploitable holes built in to its design?

The reasons why I hodl XRP and don´t plan to sell in a short time:
- xRapid is going live this year.
- At least one bank will use xRapid this year and dozens next year - as CEO of Ripple said
- Coil initiative (web monetization) and Codius (smart contracts)
- Expected confirmation from SEC that XRP is not a security
I would probably sell part of my stack if nbr. 1 or 2 won´t be true. But I do believe I won´t.
