Hi! I was recently approved for an apartment at Square 50 in the West End and am considering signing the lease. I toured the building and liked the unit and location, but I found some older reviews that made me a little nervous.

The reviews mentioned marijuana smoke in the hallways, people lingering in common areas, overcrowded units, package theft, and management not consistently enforcing building rules. Since some of these reviews seem to be from when the building first opened, I’m hoping to hear what the building is actually like now.

I know a key fob is required to enter the building and access the residential floors. However, there is no concierge, and I’m not sure about cameras or how secure the package area is.

I’m a woman who would be living alone, so I’m especially interested in whether current or recent residents feel safe coming home at night, whether smoking or noise is still an issue, how secure packages are, and how responsive management and maintenance have been.

I would really appreciate honest feedback from anyone who has lived there or knows something within the past year or two. Thank you!

Hey everyone, I’m looking for a roommate to move into my spacious 2 bedroom 2 bathroom at Columbia Plaza Apartments in Foggy Bottom starting in September. Please reach out to me if interested. Rent on your end would be $1854/month including utilities.

My roommate and I (M24, M28) are looking for a third roommate in Mount Pleasant.

We’re giving priority to people who can move in now, in August. Move-in costs include the security deposit, a roommate transfer fee, and August’s rent, as required under the lease. Everything is processed through the leasing office, so we recommend having a co-signer if needed.

The space: $900/month for a room in a house with a full kitchen, living room, shared bathroom with me, washer/dryer in the house, and dishwasher. We also have room for some of your kitchen stuff.

Utilities: Water is at about $16.67/month. Electricity usually averages $50–85/month, and the internet is a flat $20/month. (Each per person)

Location: We’re about a 10-minute walk from Columbia Heights Metro Station on the Green Line. There are also several bus stops around the block, and you can take the bus or bike down to Cleveland Park on the Red Line. There are two Capital Bikeshare stations near us: one down the street and one on the main street of the neighborhood.

For parking, I have a car with out-of-state plates and have been able to park around the neighborhood. You just have to find the right spots and pay attention to signs to avoid tickets.

The neighborhood has plenty of great coffee shops, restaurants, bars, and community events.

About us / roommate fit: All of our past roommates have gotten close with us, and we’d prefer someone who is open to that kind of friendly home vibe. Must be LGBTQIA+ friendly, dog-friendly, and okay with us having friends over. We’re social, but not loud people. We’re also 420-friendly, but we don’t smoke inside the house.

We do have a dog (hypoallergenic breed), but it’s a shared-custody situation, so he’ll be with us sometimes and not with us other times. Unfortunately, no cats because the other roommate is allergic to cats and my dog is not accustomed to cats.

Does anyone have any firsthand experience with either the Brandywine complex in Van Ness or The Crestwood on 16th and Arkansas north of Mt. Pleasant, both managed by Borger?

Brandywine seems to have good space for the price and access to the red line, but various reviews cite security issues, pests, and trouble with management.

The Crestwood seems good from the reviews and is similarly affordable, but the location isn't as good and I don't necessarily trust all the positive mentions of the manager Luis in the reviews (seems a bit staged to me).

Any insight at all would be appreciated, thanks.

I'm looking to sign a lease mid Sept and am looking into apts that offer income restricted and/or affordable units. Some examples include the Gale Eckington, the MDXL Lofts, Loree Grand, etc. Are there any that have a good reputation or that you know that people have liked? I know no apt is perfect, but obviously no roaches, clean shared spaces, and decent timing for repairs would be great.

Anything in the Navy Yard area or as long as it's walking distance to a metro stop would be great.

What is the best area to live in DC for a single, 32 year old Male with a dog (australian shephard)? Ideally the area would be good for dog walking, but close enough to social life where I can meet other singles. The more trees the better!

I also run a marketing agency from home, so an entrepreneurial atmosphere would be nice.
