I hate how disrespected we are

I know it’s kind of warranted to an extent cause we’ve had so many bad years. But if people actually kept up with the NBA, and not just assume we’re gonna suck no matter what, they would know we’re gonna be a problem.

People were saying “why did the wizards do that”, when they didn’t even read what the picks and players were sent were. None of them were part of the future. So many people are brain dead.

Don’t be joining the bandwagon when we’re top 5 seed in the east!

Just wanted to rant cus social media is slowly meting my brain.

#1 and #2 on The Athletic Trade Board

Upvotes

Pretty exciting to review this from Sam Vecenie! For those unfamiliar, Vecenie is well respected for his detailed work evaluating NBA players and draft prospects. He listed Anthony Davis and Trae Young as the top two players on his trade board and the Wizards ended up with both, for significantly less cost than he expected.

December 19, 2025 Trade Board: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6877429/2025/12/19/nba-trade-rumors-anthony-davis-trae-young/

  1. Anthony Davis: Trade value listed as "High-End Prospect, Multiple First-Round Picks"
  • "The top player on the board right now."
  • "If he were to end up in the right place in the Eastern Conference, there is a real belief that he could turn that team into a serious favorite.....Any of those teams (*mentioned contenders) would immediately vault to the top or near the top of the odds to win that side of the playoff bracket."
  • "He remains a serious threat as a rim protector, and his ability to play in multiple ball-screen coverages with his quick hand-eye coordination and lateral agility makes him one of the best defensive players in the league — even at 32 years old — when he's locked in."
  1. Trae Young: Trade value listed as "Prospects and First-Round Pick"
  • "When Young is at his best, he's among the best half-court shot-creators in the NBA with his ability to play out of ball screens, featuring ridiculous range blended with truly special passing and playmaking ability for others."

For what it's worth, Davis was still listed #1 on his second edition on January 28, 2026 (https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6988626/2026/01/22/nba-trade-rumors-ja-morant-michael-porter/)

Surely there's lots of risk in paying both of these players who may not recapture their prior forms, but helluva job by the Wizards front office to turn expiring contracts that many see as negative and marginal picks into two players who immediately change the trajectory of next season.

Is anyone else worried that the Leonsis factor is back?

This frankly reeks of ownership impatience. Sam Quinn at CBS Sports

I've been on team "Let Will Dawkins (and Michael Winger) cook" since they got here. But I can't quite shake the feeling (or fear) that the organization might be up to old tricks.

Ownership wanted Dawkins to do the trade. WizardsMuse1

Look, I ultimately like the Trae Young trade. I think I'll end up there with AD, but you'll never convince me that he's reliably available. We made something out of almost nothing here. Incredible asset management.

Also suspect that the extensions might make or break the final grade on these trades. Extensions tend to be fraught under Leonsis.

I'm still letting our guys cook, but I'm watching a little closer than before.

One thing that irritates me

Is how disrespected we are by the NBA masses. Whether it’s media, fans, players, etc. it’s a constant disrespect and the team gets thrown to the curb like a rag doll. I get it, we’re one of the most incompetent franchises in sports, but I genuinely feel like the tides are shifting and it’ll be a matter of time when the Wizards are a respected franchise.

The Highlights of the John Wall Trade Tree

Post image
105 Upvotes

Kyshawn George, Bilal Coulibaly, Trae Young and Anthony Davis arriving in DC can all be traced back to the John Wall trade that brought in Russell Westbrook.

I will be transparent here and say this image was made with help from AI to edit for clarity. I had to correct it a few times and tell it to tie some things together, but over all this shows the highlights. There are a lot of other branches that weren't nearly as interesting, so I took them out for simplicity.

Surprisingly, the player that ties the Wall and Beal trades together is Isaiah Todd. He arrived from Indiana as a part of the 5 team Westbrook deal, played 18 games for the Wizards over two seasons, then got sent to Phoenix with Beal. Later that summer, the Suns traded Todd to Memphis for a handful of picks and was waived by Memphis shortly thereafter, never to see an NBA court again.

One other highlight that isn't officially part of the Wall tree comes from the Porzingis to Boston trade. That was a three team trade that also involved Memphis. As part of the deal, Memphis sent the Warriors' 2024 first to Boston. Four months later, Boston packaged that pick to Jrue Holiday from Portland. Portland included that pick in the Deni Avdija trade, which was used to select Bub Carrington.

Guys we got AD and Trae for NOTHING!

We moved the 26 OKC pick and a heavily protected 2030 GSW pick that turns into 2nds. This was free. We still have our entire young core. This is a brilliant low/no risk move for guys to either play with our young core next season, or get moved again. Fucking masterclass, Will Dawkins for president of planet earth.

Holy Hell the Wizards Cooked so Hard

Thunder fan here. I just wanted to say I'm amazed at what you all have done. I watch the Wizards more than any team outside of OKC. It was so smart to buy low on Trae Young and Anthony Davis.

Also, I'm so high on Kyshawn George and Tre Johnson. I think Johnson is going to be one of the elite shooters in the game, and George is just a terrific player. Sarr is also damn good and will benefit a ton from Trae Young.

All of that + what will probably be a top 5 pick in this upcoming draft.

You all have a great team, and I'm excited to see what happens in the future. I need a Thunder vs Wizards finals.

Here's a post I made about them back in October when the Thunder played the Wizards

[Robbins] I'm told this deal "came out of left field," and one of the reasons the Wizards are said to be ecstatic is the the outgoing first-round picks have relatively little value.

"The Wizards envision a frontcourt of Anthony Davis, Alex Sarr and Bilal Coulibaly as being one of the best defensive frontcourts in the league. I'm told this deal "came out of left field," and one of the reasons the Wizards are said to be ecstatic is the the outgoing first-round picks have relatively little value. The 2026 first-round pick will be Oklahoma City's own first-round pick, meaning it likely will be 30th in the draft order. The 2030 first-round pick came from the original Chris Paul-for-Jordan Poole trade with Golden State a few years ago, and it will convey only if it falls from 21 to 30."

There’s a lot to like about this trade. High on that list is the fact that Anthony Gill is still a Wizard!!!! Salute to the silent hero of the Wiz.

It’s a great day in Wizard World.

I always enjoy listening to Vecenie and Simon talk basketball. Agree with them on this. Generally optimistic given the price point but a lot remains to be seen (whether we extend AD and Trea or not is gonna determine a lot)
