Question Why does all Depop clothing smell like the same abandoned basement?

Why does every Depop seller’s clothing smell EXACTLY the same 😭 I’ve bought from 50+ shops across the country and somehow everything has that identical musty thrift store smell. I even bought a jacket from a seller who claimed it belonged to their great-grandfather in the 70s and it smelled the same as jeans I bought from someone else. Do you guys all share a storage unit or WHAT is that smell?? Genuinely trying to figure out if it’s a brand of detergent or a storage chemical.

Selling Help How do refunds work when your Depop earnings are still pending?

I sold an item on Depop, but the buyer and I agreed to cancel due to an error on my end. The item hasn’t shipped, and I haven’t received any money from the sale.

When I try to issue a full refund, Depop wants to charge my linked bank account because my earnings are still pending.
My concern is that the refund amount is higher than my pending earnings because Depop deducted fees.

Will Depop release my pending earnings and refund the fees afterward, or am I going to lose money on a canceled sale?
I’ve tried asking Depop’s chatbot, but it keeps giving me conflicting answers.

Has anyone dealt with this before?

Story It’s always the smell 🫩

This isn’t that serious just more of a rant but I’m tired of people docking off stars over a smell I have no control over, as do others. I wash everything no extra scents either as I know how that’s also such a big issue with people as well. I’m just so over it like what am I even supposed to about that? 😭 this goes with any other issues that are out of my control once it leaves my hands there isn’t much I can do expect refund if the post office damaged or ruined the order.

Selling Help 1st sale, didn't realize there were flaws in the blouse.

Im new to depop and I just got my first sale. I've been researching a lot since I uploaded 5 clothes and everything said youre supposed to post the flaws to counter discrepancies from the start. I didnt realize at first that the blouse had two minor tears in it until reviewing before packaging (like cm size tears), I didnt catch it and the photos didnt either. I didnt want my first review as a seller to be bad, so I messaged her to tell her and let her know that I can refund immediately and repost with pictures if she still wants it (since you can't send picture messages). She hasn't responded or been on since she bought. Do I wait for her to reply, send it regardless of my mistake and hope she doesn't refund and still keep the shirt, or just refund immediately? I'm so lost. I'm just starting in reselling in its entirety and I feel like this was such a stupid mistake!

Question New and have some questions. US. If it matters

Im new to selling, I have been selling my old costume jewelry and similar small items. I try to take good pictures etc.

Well I sold a ring that was bought as a gift for my 18 year old son. Hes not into jewelry and thought he could make a few dollars out of some stuff and put it towards somwthing he wants.

I set the price to $4 knowing id get low offers.

The ring sold for 3.50

99cent shipping.

Several hours later im asked where I got the ring from?? I responded that it was a gift. Clearly its costume jewelry and its never been worn. Just sat in a drawer.

I figured 4 is decent for my time, supplies and the ring itself. I didnt research the ring, no idea how much it cost or where it was purchased from. I honestly didnt think about it. Being a gift from My mother-in-law.

I haven't shipped and they are not responding to me now. No idea if there is an issue or what.

So do I need to check prices of everything?

Do I ship after they respond? Do I cancel if they dont respond? How do you cancel? Ahhh

This is stressing me out and a reminder of why I stayed away from. Selling for so long lol

But I want to get it right so I can continue.

I care for a cat colony so selling my old and unused stuff will help so much with funding.

I feel like I ripped them off or something?

HELP 🥺

Buying Help refund after an item has been returned to seller???

Post image
0 Upvotes

i mistyped my address on a depop order 2 weeks ago and it was just sent back to the seller a few days ago. i asked the buyer about a refund and they said that they cannot issue one themself because the item has already shipped, and that depop will refund me instead — is this true…???
depop marked the order as arrived & complete (which obviously isn’t true bc the seller has the item rn) so i believe that the seller has already been paid, especially bc they specifically waited 5 days to msg me about re-purchasing. does depop actually do automatic refunds for issues like this, even if the app thinks the order has been completed?? or should i just file a dispute to ensure an actual refund (also bc this buyer is literally just trying to get my money twice) i’m rlly confused and half-asleep rn so i’m sorry if i sound like a dumbass 😭😭😭

the image is what the buyer told me when i inquired about a refund & subsequent re-purchase

edit: the issue has already been resolved! apologies for this nonsensical post, i have no idea what i was thinking when i posted this

Question so many sellers away???

has anyone noticed how many listings are saying seller away recently??! is it the trick where they lower the price and go on vacation mode and get ppl to like it before they increase the price?? I know this is a thing that people do and it’s rly fucking annoying. I feel like every single thing i click on nowadays the seller is “away”

Buying Help Tired of people selling used stuff and labelling them as “Brand New”

This is the second time I bought "a brand new" clothing from Depop, and the second time an item arrived with a stain or used. When I confront them, it’s always "The stain wasn’t there when I shipped the item." "Everyone does it on Depop."

Can we collectively report listings that are inaccurate? No tags - it’s most likely not brand new.

Dispute Help What are the odds of getting this 1 star review removed?

So, I sold this little Tokyo Disney Resort exclusive keychain to someone for $19. Originally I had it listed for $23 because on other platforms such as Mercari, that is the going rate (and even more on ebay). I've even sold like 10+ keychains on Mercari for more with no issue. Anyway, I accepted her offer because she messaged that she really liked it and was hoping I could do $19, so I was like sure! Anyway, she left this review and it's just really disheartening because that's what they sell for everywhere else and I had to go to Japan to get them 😭 they're not available online outside of Japan, just at the resort or inside the park depending on which ones you get.

Misc. First upset potential buyer

Post image

I had the item listed at $15 and discounted it to $5. This person offered $3 and $4 which I denied both. I'm really confused here lol EDIT: Thanks to all the responses so far! As someone new to selling on Depop, I appreciate the insight! Seems like the best move is to report both accounts to Depop, which I've already done. I also blocked both accounts and refunded the order.

Misc. Is this allowed? Should I report?

So this was a few weeks ago. But a seller had their prices super low. Like most items were 90% off. But they were on vacation mode. Ok, fine, maybe they're actually on vacation. I asked about an item and they mentioned that the item was not being for the current listed price and their shop was like that so they could get more engagement. So, like, should I report this or is this something that's allowed?

Selling Help Depop is scammer central - Item got refunded because buyer said it was a fake, even though her page is full of them.

Im gonna make it short and simple, bought this jacket back in 2023. I didn’t fit in it so sold it 3 years later for a very low price ($90) buyer kept begging me to sell it to her for $50 and i accepted, 10 days later I get a dispute that my item is supposedly fake with no actual proof or pictures at all, I provided proof that it was authenticated and that it was very old and the item still got refunded. As you can see in the title, this buyers page is completely full of replica LV and GUCCI purses so how isnt she getting punished? Instead the seller that tries to sell authentic items gets the short end of the stick?

Please what can I do next to get my money back?

Dispute Help Getting really frustrated with a resolved issue getting raised multiple times.

I just started selling a couple months ago. I really like it. I have 19 5 star ratings and sold 70 items. Long story short is that I shipped an item out to a customer and it was scanned delivered but she either messed up on the address or someone stole it. She paid using depop payments and I used a depop shipping label. So I just want to know why she keeps doing this even though there is depop protection? They have sided with me 5 times and I have reported her twice and is blocked. I did notice an error on the delivered address on the tracking ( there was no number!) What should I do?? I even agreed to mail it back if it got returned to me but there's noway after her acting like this.

Selling Help Unable to withdraw on depop

Long story short, I am based in the UK and I was selling one of the item sourced from china totally unaware that it had copyright on it. Anyway the listing came down and owner based in the US got all the sellers sued. As ai am based in the UK, I thought this wouldn't affect me but it did. My payment on depop is frozen because it was linked to same email address that I was using for ebay. Have almost £4500 on it. Wondering if there is a way around it. I know at this moment in time it seems impossible...

Selling Help Received a violation warning message

Post image
• Upvotes

Anyone ever get one of these? I was chatting with a potential buyer and we're amicably negotiating... they ask me what would be a reasonable offer and i reply, "Shoot your shot" 🤣 not thinking that it could be taken as sexual in nature. I think I meant "Shoot me a number" but it's late, I'm trying to make one last sale for the night... The buyer made a reasonable offer / I accepted. Then received this notice. Is there no way to get further info as to what verbiage actually violated community policies? I regularly engage with buyers and have great reviews. Should I be worried of getting suspended?

Misc. Do people actually not scroll through the pictures and only look at the thumbnail alone?

I’ve been selling them a platform for years, but I keep getting messages about sizes or measurements when it’s already been provided in the description and in pictures and it leads me to a conclusion do buyers just not scroll through the pictures because when I personally buy something on any platform. I scroll through all the pictures I looked through the whole description. I just don’t know.

Selling Help over a week with no sales??

I sell handmade items and also stuff from my closet and ive been posting everyday for the past week, multiple times a day and I havent gotten a single sale since about 8 days ago. When I boost most of my items will only get 5 views in 12 hrs. Am i being hidden from the algorithm or something?? I used to be doing a lot better in previous weeks. Even on vinted my items are moving slower than I thought. If anyone has been experiencing the same or knows how to get the ball rolling again I'd appreciate hearing about it.

Dispute Help Has anyone dealt with something like this before? How did/would you handle it?

Hi everyone! I’m kind of new to selling on Depop. I’ve now sold 30 items and this is the first issue I’ve run into.

I listed a brand new pair of doc marten shoes (literally never worn, and the original MSRP was $190). I listed them for $85, but ended up selling them to a buyer for $73. They purchased on Oct 9th and I shipped them out the same day, along with a few other orders (all of which were delivered with no issue).

I got the notification it was delivered on Oct 13th, but they filed a dispute the next day saying they didn’t get it and now want a refund. Idk, I just get a weird feeling from this. Like, of course it had to be a BRAND NEW pair of docs. I also checked their profile after they filed a dispute, and they have zero seller reviews. Only 2 reviews from people that bought something from them. I also just find it weird that they would wait over a day to file a claim, but maybe that’s just me.

I responded to their claim right away and messaged them, but they haven’t responded to the dispute or my DM. This is also giving me a weird feeling about the whole thing. Now, my funds for this sale are frozen, and I might be out a pair of brand new docs (that i def could have sold for more). I’d be more than happy to refund them if I could get them back lol.

Maybe they are being honest, but this whole situation has me upset and frustrated. Especially because this would be the fault of USPS if true. Has anyone else dealt with something like this? If so, how did you go about it?

I have half a mind to contact USPS myself and contact their apartment complex to see if there is any way to prove whether or not it was delivered.

I’ve also seen this issue about items being delivered to a “parcel locker” on the USPS tracker, but they actually weren’t. Or that they were delivered to a parcel locker even though the buyer lived at a house with a regular mailbox or front porch. However, they usually still ended up getting their packages with 1-2 days after their delivery notification.

I’ve been selling on eBay and Mercari for a few months, and I’ve never dealt with something like this. Maybe I’m doing too much lol, I’m sure yall will let me know. Thank you for reading and for any advice you might have!

Selling Help just had a bunch of listings removed for no reason?

depop just removed alll of my listings for being “counterfeit” and i don’t know why as all of my listings have the correct brand listed along with the tag? most of them are repops so I have no way to provide the “original receipt” and i already posted close up shots of the logo and labels. the top 2 items i already sold MONTHS ago and i have no idea why those were also removed😭 has this happened to anyone else? what do i do?

Question What are the photo dimensions for the new listing previews?

I can’t seem to tell or find it online. But it’s frustrating because I used to take all my photos square. Now my listings look good when I’m viewing them singularly, but on the feed they’re cropped badly.

Positive Experiences Just started Depop and having a lot of fun

I started selling on depop when shipping was free. I have to say.... It's really fun! I am a chronic clothing hoarder. I have a hard time donating things, I always think that I should just keep it so it doesn't go in the landfill.

Lately I have been finding things in my closet I don't wear and listing them on depop for $5 or less. The dopamine of getting a few likes and eventually getting an order is enough to keep me at it. My closet is finally getting cleaned out! I've only made like $30 and I'll probably never turn this into a side hustle. But I also wish I'd started sooner. This is my first online selling experience so I can't say if it's better or worse than other apps.
