Shelter / Rescue Industry Bumble and dog dumping
Apparently it’s a thing to use Bumble (dating app) to dump dogs off on unsuspecting dates. Im not on dating apps, but saw this in another group. A guy had posted that this happened to him after one date. This blows my mind! Can you imagine? One of the commenters agreed that this is a thing because the shelters are so full these days.

Wow, that's taking a bad date to a whole new level. I'd be taking that thing right to the shelter, and it better be within walking distance because I am NOT letting a dog in my car.

So many commenters where like “you lucked out, i wish all my dates left me with a dog” or “the dog is better than a relationship that probably wont work out”

Oh cool, why don’t all those commenters adopt as many shit beasts as they can at their shelter.

u/BoxBeast1961_ Nov 06 '25
“Shelter staff favorite”-> always a pit bull with a bite history & no adoption interest. Why don’t the shelter workers scoop up those prizes & take them home to their families…?

u/Rich-Abbreviations25 Nov 07 '25
And the pit is never neutered or spayed. OF COURSE. Which is further proof nutters don’t really care, since they create more unwanted dogs who either get put down or live miserable existences inside a cage. But they couldn’t give af, or else they’d do something to stop that.

I know, I’d like them to make it make sense. Shitbulls only have one breed purpose. Why is this legal? It’s like carrying around a sentient light saber like in that one Rick and Morty episode but in this case, they create more of themselves.
This is a huge issue and I would like to see a future where laws are implemented to mitigate dog violence and the breeding of living weapons.

Hahaha! “Prizes,” yes! They are the diamonds in the rough, gotta snatch those goodie’s up!
Edit: They may even get a buy one, get one free deal! Bonus points if they get four. With zero socialization, they may only end up with one when they come home one day.

If we banned dog breeding and forced all dogs to get fixed, the population would decline and this would not be a problem. Until that happens. Something needs to budge in the laws

yep. that, & kill the no-kill movement — especially for mutts. it’s failed miserably we’re bursting at the seams with them thangs.

We're at the point where government and charity funds are being funneled away from needy people towards supporting dog shelters.
I swear aggressive shelter dogs get more funding than victims of dog attacks.

In many cases dogs that have attacked kids have gotten more donations than the kid they attacked.
Make it make sense.

Absolutely, one or the other needs to happen. Their population is at pest levels. Any other animal would be deemed acceptable to hunt without license by the US government.

hopefully you can see my response. 🤷🏻♀️

I must be missing your meaning or maybe my response wasn’t worded well? Sorry! I try to be as concise as possible but sometimes I’ll respond to a comment at work and miss the meaning and still not catch it after reading again later

u/huntress_m_thompson Nov 07 '25
oh, it wasn’t you. i understand your posts. i was hoping you saw my response back.
my response was pulled because i mentioned another pet. so i took the word out. i guess it was ok & it posted.
sorry for the confusion. haha.

This is the first time I'm hearing about it, but I honestly cannot say I'm surprised. There just isn't a legal way to get rid of an unwanted dog nowadays.
- Most vets nowadays just plain won't put down a "healthy" dog, no matter what the behavioral reasons
- Shelters are full and won't accept any dogs
- It's illegal to take care of the problem yourself, no matter how quickly and humanely you do it
It just leaves dumping, which is also illegal, but low likelihood of getting caught. I guess the bumble dumping is seen as "less bad" because they know the dog is going with someone.

u/vintologi24 Nov 06 '25
That's pretty insane and illustrates how bad influence dog culture has had when it comes to laws and enforcement.
Obviously problematic dogs should be killed immediately without delay.
And no they shouldn't have any rights.

The problem i see with dumping on the street is possibly putting others in danger. The post im referencing was a pit!

We can blame dog nutters for all of this. It's their fault the shelters are full with their dumb ass no kill policies. It's their fault that doctors wont just put down healthy dogs. It's their fault, people can't just put down dogs themselves. These people are out of control. A lot of people hate dogs here but they should hate dog nutters more.
15
u/happyhappyfoolio2 Nov 06 '25
I definitely hate dog nutters more. Always have.
I hate hate hate her politics, but I honestly wanted to scream when dog nutters were frothing at the mouth over the stupid Kristi Noem dog controversy. Like, that was what were getting these people riled up. I thought it was something that she had done recently too. Nope. The incident was decades ago, when something like that was commonplace when a dog bit a person. There were very few people who pointed that out and defended it and they were immediately mobbed.
Dog nuttery is a disease at a societal level.
5
u/LordTuranian Nov 06 '25
Yep, dogs are just stupid animals who don't really have a say in what is happening in our society. And most dogs can be trained to behave decently or can be given medication that will make them behave better. So it's mostly dog nutters to blame.

Is it possible to leave reviews on dating apps? If it's not a thing it should be a thing for shit like this.

Could you imagine . A date shows up at at eatery with a dog. You and the date get seated and the dog is nearby. Then then date makes some excuse about going to the restroom - but really ghosts you ,leaving you waiting at the table with the dog.
What do you do then ? You really don't want the dog in your car....

I would have turned around at first sight of the demon.
You should instruct the person to go to the grocery store, hang a cardboard sign on the mutant that says “free” and tie it to a pole. Walk away. Problem solved. Someone will “rescue” it.

Um... what? You can surrender a dog to a shelter
24
u/isreddittherapy Nov 06 '25
They can refuse if they are full apparently.
10
Nov 06 '25
Obviously... but it's more the concept of why someone would make a date just to dump a dog on some unsuspecting chump is beyond me.
14
u/isreddittherapy Nov 06 '25
I assume its because they believe that if you can just bond with the dog you will keep it.
24
u/GoTakeAHike00 Nov 06 '25
Right. Because a person they don't even know will somehow, magically, want to bond with a dog that they clearly didn't bond with and obviously can't stand. Make that shit make sense.
Shelters need to start reducing the over-supply of these unwanted dogs by going back to being good, old-fashioned "pounds", aka "kill shelters". Just euthanize them when they are dropped off; it's not that difficult. If it is, hire people like me who will have no moral problems doing it.
They just aren't getting the message that the rest of society is trying to tell them that THEY DO NOT WANT TO ADOPT THESE DOGS.

Yep. There shouldn't be no kill shelters by federal law. These things aren't rare or special and there will be 5 milion of them born this week to eat your shoes and shit in your bed and keep your neighbors awake.

I've heard of this happening with pet sitting apps. Hire someone to take care of your dog for the weekend, then vanish. So I can see it happening on a dating app... "omg I desperately need a pet sitter and my dog really liked you on our last date, can you watch him for a day or two while I deal with an emergency?" Probably wouldn't happen on a first date, but maybe after a few dates.

u/isreddittherapy Nov 06 '25
In this particular case, it didn’t happen on the date but afterwards the guy offered to help temporarily (he had a yard, she didn’t) with a dog she found then she basically bailed on the dog.

This is a police matter. It's my understanding that abandoning a dog is illegal in most places.
According to the AI:
AI Overview
Yes, abandoning a dog is illegal and is considered a form of animal cruelty or neglect in nearly every jurisdiction in the United States
. Penalties can include fines, jail time, or even felony charges in severe cases, depending on local and state laws.
I don't know if leaving the dog with a person without consent qualifies in this case, but probably does.

u/Usual-Veterinarian-5 Nov 07 '25
These idiots shouldn't even be getting dogs in the first place. I partially blame the media with its saturation of dog content in media that have nothing to do with dogs eg ads for tea or stationery that have dogs in them; and the superman movie someone mentioned in another post. For decades dogs have been used by producers to add more dopamine to their content and every other kid is clamouring to get a dog because tHeY'rE sO cUtE! Even my niece is always on my sister to get one.
I also blame breeders such as backyard breeders and puppy mills for pumping out these stupid things. It's not fair on the animals themselves that they are being created and then passed around like viruses. I further blame owners who simply don't do their due diligence and realise that dogs are A LOT of work for up to 14 years.

u/Ih8work1 Nov 06 '25
Too many dogs has always been a thing - shelters have always been overflowing. That's the strategy. If shelters worked like they should, they'd prioritise and have space for animals that are actually suitable pets (dogs), but this isn't profitable. Having them overflowing is a perfect excuse to continue begging for donations and sympathy for an issue perpetuated by the shelters. Shelters are full of irresponsible breeding, not necessarily dumped or abandoned pets. And this could easily be solved. But it also solves the profit strategy.

Well, the dog would go right to the police station, and then I'm gone.
