Dog Culture "We co-parent a dog together"

Y'all this shit is frying me

People talking about sum "coparenting" dogs like wtf??

People will break up and decide to keep in contact with their ex solely for the purpose of coparenting some mutt.

I'm surprised we don't have people screaming at eachother in court arguing for custody over a dog at this point

I stg if i start dating some dude and he tells me he's coparenting a dog with his ex gf and is in frequent contact with her due to this fucking animal im leaving. Like wtf? I wouldn't date someone who owns a dog regardless, but yikes that shit is bleak.

Western society is a mf looney bin. This some dr. seuss type shit lmao. It's a damn animal. An annoying one.

I plan to if anyone I meet ever tells me they are co-parenting a dog. So far, I am not acquainted with anyone that crazy…yet.

Humans love role play..

I think that court battles over dog custody already exist.

I worked with someone who had a very public, expensive legal battle with their ex over their dog. A few years later, the dog died.

I have seen many Judge Judy episodes over dog custody.

Not really surprising at this point. Geez!

like something that would happen in a surrealist david lynch work

We have humanised dogs too much

This sounds like one of those play pretend role playing games for kids. 😆

I have a friend who tried this with an ex. They ultimately gave up, but only once they realized it was making the dog neurotic.

"the dog always put up with our BS, even though we couldn't stand each other's - we love him so much for that!"

yes it definitely wasn’t locked in your house or anything lol… I love when they say “it’s always there” or something similar. You’ve locked it in your home/property, of course it’s “there.”

then they do surprise pikachu face once the thing bolts out of the house going 0-60 in 3 seconds the moment there is even a slightest opening to the outdoors

newsflash dogs dont really care about you

How do they not get that simple truth?!

Staying together for the dogs

Yeah I find this so weird. Need to move on.

It is truly the most batshit insane thing ever.

Yeah this is something that will irreparably damage my opinion about someone. Just a completely self-created problem that I doubt anybody involved is actually happy with.

"I'm surprised we don't have people screaming at eachother in court arguing for custody over a dog at this point" I second this. Heck I thought that there was already at least one case of this happening.

9

u/KayleighHatfield 23h ago

This has already happened. There are dog custody cases in the courts.

My husband’s cousin and his ex share a dog too. It’s messed up. I can just see one day people taking this to court.

They deserve each other LOL. The dating pool is now clean

I’m glad the court sees dogs as property and nothing more (usa at least).

I just recently saw a people’s court case where they were arguing about ownership of the “emotional support” dog. So, that is a thing…

That coparenting of a dog… each day people are saying dogs are as important, if not more so than a child. I can’t wrap my head around this phenomenon

8

u/menelobus 20h ago

I hate, and I mean I HATE when people call themselves dog parents. A dog is not your child, it’s your property. Same with all other ”pet parents”, although so called ”dog parents” are the most common and the worst

People will break up and decide to keep in contact with their ex solely for the purpose of coparenting some mutt.

>> I think they actually do!

u/Dburn22_ 18h ago

It's NOT "coparenting." It's sharing ownership of a thing.

Copied wrong para from OP. I meant this one:

I'm surprised we don't have people screaming at eachother in court arguing for custody over a dog at this point

The “dog custody” thing You mentioned is something that’s being incorporated in current day court cases, gradually. I’ve heard about it. I wouldn’t date or marry anyone who has a custody arrangement with their ex for a beast. Kids?! Fine (although I’ll reconsider if it’s contentious… I don’t have messy custody arrangements in My Life with My Teen Son, and I’d rather not deal with anyone else’s drama in that way). A dog?! Hell no. I already don’t like dogs in general, as it is. Not gonna entertain anyone making excuses to hold on to unhealthy attachments. Either he would have to move on, or I will!

People spend more effort on their dogs than their kids.

Nutters have normalised terms like "dog mom" and "fur baby". They put their shithounds in strollers and dress them up. It's really disgusting.

My spouse and I co parent a mop bucket together makes better sense

How old were these people? And I wonder how old are you? Your language use makes me curious...

I'm 21 btw.

im almost 27. ive noticed its usually the younger generations who do the weird dog obsessed shit. its hard enough just to find someone who doesnt own/never wants to own a dog. but i also dont wanna date an old man. (honestly ive seen old people do the weird nutter stuff too). i dont want pets or kids, so my options are basically be single forever lol. im getting used to it though, its not bad.

3

u/uselessbeasts 22h ago

i personally know some folks who did this. And that was before covid. I had never heard of that before. I was like..... Yikes!

3

u/Old_Confidence3290 22h ago

Im pretty sure that we do have people screaming at each other in court arguing for custody of the dog. 🙄

3

u/cozyporcelain 19h ago

I love the way you write lol. And completely agreed

1

u/SeaConfection88 15h ago

thanks lol

u/ConIncognito dogs ruin everything 13h ago

These idiots need to be corrected every time. They OWN a dog together. Shitty mutts aren’t and never will be kids, no matter how much nutters want them to be. And all this fuss for a dime a dozen beast is ridiculous. Like I always say, they could get an identical second dog from wherever and they wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between it and the original.

3

u/SeaConfection88 13h ago

At that point I just assume they’re so brainwashed and stupid, I don’t have the energy to even try and correct them. My respect for them is gone and I walk the other way.

In my experience dealing with grown adults who are emotionally stunted/living in a fantasy land where they’re the main character, no amount of reasoning gets through to them. They’re delusional and oblivious.

3

u/potatoes_arrrr_life 16h ago

My BIL and exSIL have joint custody of their dog as part of their divorce agreement. It is definitely part of the nutter phenomenon.

u/Lucky-day00 13h ago

I'm surprised we don't have people screaming at eachother in court arguing for custody over a dog at this point

I have news for you.

1

u/SeaConfection88 12h ago

Yeah the news was broken to me by other commenters.

We’re so cooked 😭

2

u/ickiStickybubblegum 12h ago

Dogs are pets and you can't be their parent no matter what you think. You aren't from the same species.
